Fichajes have claimed that Barcelona are now set to enter the race to sign Tottenham target Gift Orban.
Spurs were linked with a whole host of strikers across Europe following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich, with Orban widely reported as the North London club’s top target (CaughtOffside).
However, in the end, Tottenham decided against signing an out-and-out number nine, choosing instead to strike a £47.5m deal with Nottingham Forest for the versatile Brennan Johnson instead.
It was reported by Het Laatste Nieuws (via Sport Witness) last week that although Spurs’ scouts were convinced about Orban, the Lilywhites found Gent’s €30m (£25.8m) asking price to be excessive, considering that the player only had six good months in the Belgian top flight.
Barca now enter the mix for Spurs-linked Gift Orban
If Tottenham reignite their interest in the Gent star in January, they could be faced with plenty of competition, with Fichajes now claiming that Barca have their eye on the youngster.
The report states that the Catalan giants are on the lookout for Robert Lewandowski’s successor and have identified Orban as their number one target.
The publication adds that the Blaugrana could battle Spurs and AC Milan for the Nigerian’s signature when the transfer window reopens.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham would have absolutely no issues outbidding both Milan and Barca if they decide to pursue Orban. However, it is unclear if Spurs are fully convinced about the 21-year-old, having walked away from a deal for him in the summer.
