Sport have claimed that Barcelona are now contemplating entering the race to sign Tottenham target Santiago Gimenez in January.

Over the last few weeks, we have relayed various reports which have indicated that Tottenham are one of several European giants who have their eye on the prolific Gimenez in January (90 min).

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his YouTube channel last week that Spurs have been watching the prolific Mexican for some time and suggested that Feyenoord would be open to selling him for €45m (£39m).

A couple of days ago, The Daily Mirror even asserted that the Lilywhites are fully convinced about the 22-year-old after scouting him during Feyenoord’s Champions League encounter against Lazio and that the Premier League side are willing to meet the Dutch club’s asking price.

Barca could enter the race for Santiago Gimenez

If Sport’s latest update is to be believed, Tottenham could now face competition from Barcelona for Gimenez’s signature.

The report states that Robert Lewandowski could receive offers from Saudi Arabia in January and while the Pole does not want to leave Camp Nou, the Catalan club are ‘attentive’ to market opportunities.

Should they sell the former Bayern Munich star, it is alleged that they could use the funds from the sale to sign Gimenez.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like a whole host of clubs across Europe are likely to vie for Gimenez’s signature in January. Tottenham do not tend to get involved in bidding wars, which is why the club might turn their attention elsewhere if the deal proves too complicated to complete.

Agent, Morris Pagniello, who is a consultant for Santiago Gimenez, has admitted that Tottenham and Real Madrid are now the two front-runners for the Mexican’s signature ahead of January.

Giminez has been one of the hottest strikers in Europe at the start of this season, having scored 15 goals in 13 matches so far this season, and the centre-forward is thought to be of interest to several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham (90 min).

Earlier this week, TV Play (via Sport Witness) suggested that the 22-year-old is likely to be England-bound in January, with the Feyenoord man alleged to have received ‘great interest’ from Tottenham.

The publication added that Ange Postecoglou’s side are following Gimenez with ‘great attention’ and are ‘willing to accommodate’ him in their squad, with Feyenoord thought to value the striker at €45m-€50m (£39.2m-£43.5m).

Tottenham are leading the way for Santiago Gimenez

Pagniello, who admitted that he works as a consultant to the striker and his father (who is also his agent), has now named Spurs as one of the leading contenders for the player’s signature.

He told TuttoMercatoWeb: “We have already discussed with Atletico Madrid. After he arrived at Feyenoord, the family approached me and now there are relationships with his father, who represents Santi at the moment I am their consultant.

“We talked about it with Inter, Milan, Lazio and Napoli, but for me, he could be perfect for both Inter and Juventus. They would be the best options for him.

“I have been telling various clubs to believe in him, his value went from 10 million to 40 in just under twelve months. Now the teams closest to him are Real Madrid and Tottenham.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Pagniello’s assertion is the most concrete evidence so far that Spurs are seriously considering a January move for Gimenez. The Mexican fits the profile of signing that Tottenham tend to go for, given his age and reported price range.

According to a report in TV Play (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are now showing ‘great interest’ in Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

Gimenez has been unstoppable in front of goal since the start of 2023 and the striker shows no signs of slowing down in front of goal, with his brace against Lazio on Tuesday taking his tally to 15 goals and three assists from 11 games across all competitions this season (Transfermarkt).

90 min reported at the start of this month that scouts from Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea had travelled to the Netherlands to watch the centre-forward in action this season, adding that they had been impressed by what they had seen.

It was subsequently reported by Fichajes two weeks ago that Real Madrid were also said to enter the Mexican international.

Spurs interest in Santiago Gimenez is now growing

TV play have now explained that while Gimenez was on Lazio’s radar in the summer, he is no longer considered a realistic target for the Serie A side, who the striker put to the sword at De Kuip on Tuesday.

The report asserts that the Premier League will be the 22-year-old’s s next destination, with the player alleged to have received ‘great interest’ from Tottenham.

The publication adds that Ange Postecoglou’s side are following Gimenez with ‘great attention’ and are ‘willing to accommodate’ him in their squad, with Feyenoord thought to value the striker at €45m-€50m (£39.2m-£43.5m).

Spurs Web Opinion

Gimenez’s displays in the Champions League will perhaps help convince interested clubs that he is capable of finding the back of the net at the highest level. There could well be a bidding war for his signature in January and at around £40m, he is well within Tottenham’s price range.

Former Feyenoord striker Roy Makaay expects rumoured Tottenham target Santiago Gimenez to leave De Kuip during the January transfer window.

Gimenez has been one of the most prolific strikers across Europe since the start of the calendar year, with his goals being a key reason behind Feyenoord’s historic Eredivisie triumph last season.

The 22-year-old scored yet another brace in the club’s 2-0 win over PEC Zwolle on Sunday, which took his tally to 12 goals times in eight league games so far this season and unsurprisingly, his performances have allegedly brought him to the notice of clubs across Europe.

90 min reported a couple of weeks ago that scouts from Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea had travelled to the Netherlands to watch the centre-forward in action this season, adding that they had been impressed by what they had seen.

It subsequently emerged last week that Real Madrid had also entered the race for the Mexican international’s signature ahead of the January transfer window (Fichajes).

Should Spurs make a move for Santiago Gimenez?

Makaay is in no doubt that Gimenez would be on his way out of Rotterdam in January if he keeps performing as well as he is at the moment.

The former Feyenoord Under-21s coach told Football Transfers: “I hope they succeed, but if he (Giminez) continues to develop like this, he will already be gone during the winter break.

“That boy is 22, is developing great, he is a Spanish-speaking player. I think clubs will call about that during the winter break, but maybe Feyenoord won’t answer. We’ll see.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Eredivisie’s defences can often be quite porous, the sheer volume of goals that Gimenez is scoring makes him difficult to ignore. Unless the striker has a massive slump over the next couple of months, which looks highly unlikely, several top European sides will bid for him in January.

Former Ajax manager Hans Westerhof, who has held a number of big positions across Dutch football, is convinced that Tottenham target Santiago Gimenez is ready to make the step up to a bigger club.

Gimenez has started the new campaign from where he left off last season, having found the back of the net 10 times in seven league games so far for Feyenoord.

Last week, 90 min reported that scouts from Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea had all travelled to the Netherlands to watch the Mexican in action this season, adding that they had been impressed by his performances.

It was subsequently reported by Fichajes a few days ago that Real Madrid had also entered the race to sign Gimenez. The outlet alleged that the La Liga giants would have to put in a bid of €50m (£43.3) to lure the striker away from De Kuip.

The publication also asserted that Los Blancos had to act fast as several Premier League sides, including Spurs, are circling around the centre-forward.

Is Santiago Gimenez a good fit for Tottenham?

Westerhof believes that while Feyenoord has been the ideal place for Gimenez to develop his game, the striker is ready to move to a bigger league.

He told ESPN about the Mexican international: “He is certainly ready to make the jump to another league. At this moment, Feyenoord is the ideal place for him, because the team has two good wingers, he has many crosses, especially to the first post, which is his speciality.

“Last year, he had a creative behind, Santiago has a good eye for spaces, and if he didn’t have a good creative that wouldn’t help. He also has two good midfielders who enter the large area well. As there are up to three players in the attack, Santiago takes advantage of that position.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Everyone who follows the Eredivisie closely appears to be convinced that Gimenez can score goals in any competition.

However, we have seen time and again that attackers who arrive from the Netherlands struggle to produce a similar output in the Premier League, when they come up against better-organised defences and quicker defenders.

So, I would prefer Spurs spend a little extra to land Jonathan David or Dusan Vlahovic rather than paying £40m for Gimenez.

In what comes as a potential blow to Tottenham in their pursuit of Santiago Gimenez, the Feyenoord striker has now seemingly given a come-and-get-me plea to Real Madrid.

Gimenez has been one of the most prolific strikers across Europe since the start of the calendar year, with his goals being a key reason behind Feyenoord’s historic Eredivisie triumph last season.

The 22-year-old has once again started the new season in fantastic form, having found the back of the net nine times in seven league games so far, and unsurprisingly, his performances have allegedly brought him to the notice of clubs across Europe.

90 min reported last week that scouts from Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea all travelled to the Netherlands to watch the centre-forward in action this season, adding that they had been impressed by his performances.

Gimenez appears to have his eye on Real Madrid

Meanwhile, a couple of days ago, Fichajes stated that Real Madrid had also entered the race for the Mexican international’s signature ahead of the January transfer window.

The report added that Los Blancos had identified Gimenez as one of their top targets to add firepower to their forward line but suggested that the La Liga giants had to move swiftly since the player was also wanted by the likes of Spurs.

Gimenez himself has now spoken about his desire to play at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The striker told journalist Elisa Lasso (as relayed by Fabrizio Romano): “I’d be delighted to play for Real Madrid. Of course. It’s a super big club.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Not a lot of players can resist the lure of Real Madrid if they come calling. So, they would have the upper hand in the race for the 22-year-old but it remains to be seen if the La Liga side would be willing to pay the kind of fee that Feyenoord would demand for the striker.

Eredivisie legends Roy Makaay and John van Loen have spoken in glowing terms of Santiago Gimenez’s goalscoring instincts, amidst reports linking the Feyenoord striker with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

If there were any doubts over Gimenez potentially being a one-season wonder, he has certainly dispelled those completely with the way he has started the season.

The 22-year-old has found the back of the net nine times in seven league games so far this season and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Last week, 90min reported that scouts from Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea had all travelled to the Netherlands to watch the Mexican in action this season, adding that they had been impressed by his performances.

It has subsequently emerged that Gimenez is also on the radar of AC Milan (MilanWeb) and that Real Madrid are also ready to enter the race for the centre-forward’s signature in January (Fichajes).

Santiago Gimenez is highly-rated in the Eredivisie

Makaay is far from surprised by the interest that the striker is generating, with the former Feyenoord man telling Algemeen Dagblad: “Gimenez is greedier (than other strikers). I think he will be the top scorer in the Netherlands.”

John van Loen said: “(Gimenez is the best in the league) because he is very goal-oriented and improves every day.

“Everything he touches seems to go towards the goal. He is so driven and is increasingly participating (in the build-up). Every coach wants a striker like that.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Gimenez’s numbers in the Eredivisie are extremely impressive, we have seen time and again over recent years that the attackers who make the move from the Netherlands to England struggle to replicate the same sort of success in the Premier League.

Having said that, the Feyenoord striker is blessed with a natural goalscorer’s instinct and that will serve him well no matter which division he plays in.

Real Madrid now keen on Santiago Gimenez

Fichajes have now claimed that Gimenez has also emerged as ‘one of the great objectives’ of Real Madrid ahead of the January window.

It is explained that Carlo Ancelotti is keen to add firepower to his forward line and the Los Blancos hierarchy have set their sights on the Feyenoord star.

The report alleges that the La Liga giants would have to put in a bid of €50m (£43.3) to lure the striker away from De Kuip.

The outlet also adds that Real Madrid have to act fast as several Premier League sides, including Spurs, are circling around Gimenez.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be surprised if Tottenham are willing to pay £40m-£45m for a striker who is unproven outside the Eredivisie. For that kind of fee, there are potentially better options available on the market. Besides, I do not think signing a centre-forward would be a priority for Ange in January.

Spurs expected to be Milan’s main rivals

While reporting on Milan’s pursuit of Gimenez, MilanWeb have now suggested that the Serie A club should ‘watch out’ for the competition from the Premier League, ‘specifically’ Tottenham.

The report claims that the Lilywhites expressed an interest in the Feyenoord star during the summer transfer window and have continued to keep a close eye on him.

The outlet states that the Dutch club are hoping for a bidding war for Gimenez’s services and it is asserted that while Spurs’ finances give them an edge over Milan, the centre-forward is not the North London club’s number one target.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not expect Tottenham to prioritise signing a centre-forward in the January window. Postecoglou seems content with Richarlison and Son as his options, with Johnson also being capable of playing as a false nine if necessary.

I expect Spurs to sign a centre-back and a central midfielder during the next transfer window and to reassess the striker situation next summer.

Dutch journalist Martijn Krabbendam has warned the likes of Tottenham Hotspur that they might have to pay €50m (£43.4m) to lure Santiago Gimenez away from Feyenoord.

Gimenez has been prolific since establishing himself in Feyenoord’s starting eleven, having scored 32 times in 52 appearances for the club, which includes nine goals in seven Eredivisie appearances this season.

90 min reported last week that scouts from Tottenham have travelled to the Netherlands to take a closer look at the centre-forward this season.

The out claimed that the North London club have been impressed with the 22-year-old’s displays and are expected to keep an eye on his situation ahead of the January transfer window.

However, the report added that Spurs are not the only club interested in Gimenez, with the striker also alleged to be on the radars of London rivals, Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as the likes of f Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Inter, Juventus, Milan and Napoli.

Spurs may need to spend big on Santiago Gimenez

Krabbendam has now remarked that it might take a huge fee to convince Feyenoord to cash in on the Mexican international.

When asked how much Gimenez would cost, the journalist told Dutch program Today Inside (as relayed by Voetbal 4 U): “I wouldn’t say €20m. That’s heading towards €40m, €50m. There was already a lot of interest in him last summer. They are trying to make him Feyenoord’s record transfer.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Strikers who have arrived from the Eredivisie generally struggle to deliver the same sort of output in the Premier League.

I do not think it would be wise for Spurs to pay over £40m for Gimenez, particularly as the likes of Jonathan David and Dusan Vlahovic are likely to be available for around £45m-£50m.

Tottenham Hotspur could battle London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea for the signing of Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, and now, his manager Arne Slot has admitted his player could be on the move in January.

Many expected Tottenham to sign a new striker during the summer, given the high-profile departure of Harry Kane. The England captain left the club for Bayern Munich, leaving Spurs with a big goalscoring void to fill.

Spurs did not move for a new starting forward in the summer, however, with youngster Alejo Veliz the only signing in that department.

As it stands, Heung-min Son and Richarlison have stepped up to the plate and have contributed attacking returns to help Spurs remain unbeaten in the league so far this season.

However, that has not stopped the club from being linked with a number of new attackers as eyes already start to turn to the January transfer window.

Santiago Gimenez to leave Feyenoord in January?

It seems Feyenoord forward, Santiago Gimenez has been watched by scouts from Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea of late (90Min).

Now, his boss, Arne Slot, has spoken on the matter of that January transfer window and whether he can keep hold of his star striker.

He told ESPN (27/09/2023): “He is doing well. That cannot be denied. The great thing about Feyenoord is that, last summer, we were able to spend money on replacements. So we have a broad bench, also in case one leaves later.

“It is not yet January. I do not know whether [Gimenez] is planning to leave in January. But you never know. In any case, we already have a very good striker in [Ayase] Ueda.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Santiago Gimenez is on fire for Feyenoord right now and his attacking returns are the kind of numbers that will no doubt make big clubs pay attention. I would be pretty happy to see Spurs making a move for this player, and I think he would be a great fit for our system.

90 min have revealed that Tottenham’s scouts were in Amsterdam over the weekend to take a closer look at Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

Gimenez has been prolific since establishing himself in Feyenoord’s starting eleven and delivered another fine showing against Ajax, scoring twice and adding an assist to take his tally to 19 goals in 25 Eredivisie games this calendar year.

However, the 22-year-old did not get an opportunity to complete his hat trick as the game was suspended around the hour mark after crowd unrest at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Tottenham were among scouts looking at Gimenez

90 min claim that scouts from Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea were all in attendance and were left impressed by Gimenez’s display.

The report explains that the Lilywgites had their eye on the Mexican international during the summer while West Ham United failed with a move for him during the previous transfer window.

Gimenez is also said to be attracting interest from across the continent, with the likes of Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Inter, Juventus, Milan and Napoli thought to be keeping a close eye on him.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am always sceptical about signing attacking talent from the Eredivisie as they are seldom able to have a similar output in the Premier League. For every one Luis Suarez, there are several ones like Vincent Janssen, Afonso Alves and Cody Gakpo who struggle to make the transition.

The 22-year-old has been mooted as a target for Spurs this summer, with, Jovenes Futbolistas MX even claiming last month that the Lilywhites had already met with the striker’s entourage and were ready to launch an offer of €40m (£34m) for the player.

However, no such offer was forthcoming from Spurs and the Dutch club’s general manager Dennis te Kloese has since insisted that the Mexican international will stay put at De Kuip (1908.nl).

Tottenham showed interest in Santiago Gimenez

Gimenez’s agent, Pagniello, has now confirmed that Tottenham did indeed explore a move for his client this summer.

He told Medio Tiempo (as translated by Sport Witness): “Santi is one of the top 10 players in Europe, of the strikers there are because there are few and now with the departure of many strikers to Saudi Arabia, there are few on the market.

“Then even Tottenham (became interested), many clubs; I have a friend who trains there and there are many clubs that would like to have Santi this season.”

Despite Te Kloese ruling out a summer departure for Gimenez, Pagniello insisted that the striker could leave the Rotterdam club before the window slams shut.

He added: “We tried to bring him to other markets. I took care of Spain and it could not happen yet. There are still ten days left in the market, in football you never know, I hope I can support him, but the boy is doing very well.

“If he stays at Feyenoord for another year, they’ll also be happy because he’ll be able to play and show that the team plays for him, he is a goal scorer.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is nothing concrete to suggest that Gimenez is one of the names on the top of Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Kane.

We have seen time and again that forwards who have success in the Eredivisie often struggle to translate that output to the Premier League, which is why it is best that we steer clear of the Mexican.

Feyenoord’s technical director Dennis te Kloese has revealed he turned down the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year, and says he rejected the Lilywhites due to his family.

Tottenham have been looking for a replacement for their former Managing Director of Football ever since Fabio Paratici stepped down from his role in April of this year amid the controversy surrounding his involvement in Juventus’ capital gains trial and his subsequent ban from world football.

Fabio Paratici

It has since been reported that Paratici is still advising Tottenham on a consultancy basis, after FIFA relaxed some of the restrictions on his 30-month ban (Football.London).

Spurs are due to install Scott Munn as Daniel Levy’s number two, and the Australian will handle all football-related matters at the club.

However, his start date of July 1 was delayed and it is still unclear when he will officially begin his work for Spurs, though Alasdair Gold reported Munn had been on Tottenham’s pre-season tour.

Dennis te Kloese turned down Spurs for his family

Tottenham had previously been linked with a move for Feyenoord chief Dennis te Kloese, but the Dutchman opted to remain in his current role with the Eredivisie champions (ESPN Netherlands).

Now, te Kloese has opened up about why he chose to make that decision. He told Volkskrant: “I didn’t think it was the right time to drag my family somewhere after a good year.

“The youngest, 7, wears his Feyenoord shirt every day. They also know that I am a bit restless at times. But my wife said at one point: ‘we are not going to do this, friend.'”

Apparently, “acquaintances” of te Kloese have expressed their “surprise” that he is still with Feyenoord heading into the new season.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is very unclear what is going on behind the scenes in this area for Tottenham, but it seems as though Scott Munn, when he finally arrives, will be the all-around replacement for Paratici.

You cannot complain about Te Kloese’s decision either, as family should always come first when faced with these kinds of choices.

Feyenoord general manager Dennis te Kloese has brushed aside suggestions that rumoured Tottenham target Santiago Gimenez could exit the club this summer.

With the speculation over Kane’s future continuing to run rife, a whole host of centre-forwards have been mooted as potential replacements for the England captain over the last week.

One of those is Gimenez, who set Dutch football alight last season, netting 28 goals across all competitions for the Eredivisie champions (Transfermarkt).

Mexican outlet Jovenes Futbolistas MX claimed a couple of days ago that Spurs were ready to make their move for the 22-year-old, with the publication claiming that the North London club were willing to offer €40m (£34.6m) for the player this summer, having ‘already met’ with his agents.

However, it was explained that Feyenoord had made it clear that they would only let Gimenez leave for €50m (£43.3m).

Gimenez will apparently not be joining Tottenham

Te Kloese has now poured cold water on those reports, confidently asserting that the centre-forward will be at De Kuip next season.

When asked if Gimenez will still be at Rotterdam next season, the Feyenoord GM told ESPN (as relayed by 1908.nl): “Yes. We have a long-term contract with him.

“I also honestly think, and I have known him for a long time, that it is best for him, from me, to gain experience here and play in the Champions League.

“In an ideal situation, Gimenez is just a Feyenoord player. We must not lose sight of reality. Our players have positioned themselves fantastically in the past year.

“But we are working on something very special in the sporting field, with the Johan Cruijff Shield, playing for prizes and the Champions League. Players realise that they can also take steps here.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Scoring loads of goals in the Eredivisie is no guarantee that a player would be able to reach anywhere near the same output in the Premier League.

So, ideally, Spurs need to look at an option like Vlahovic or Kolo Munai, who are proven in a top league, if Harry Kane does end up departing.

Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a move for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez this summer, in the event that Harry Kane leaves the club.

Kane may have cemented his status as a club legend at Tottenham last year by becoming the all-time leading goalscorer for the Lilywhites (GOAL), but his future is now seriously in doubt.

With just 12 months remaining on his current contract, many have suggested Kane should move on this summer in search of silverware. Either that, or he leaves for nothing next summer.

At present, Bayern Munich are the club most strongly pursuing the England captain. The German side are hopeful a transfer can be arranged this summer, and are preparing a new bid of £80m for Kane according to the Daily Mirror.

Should Kane leave, Spurs will have a huge hole to fill up front. As one would expect, the club has been linked with a number of strikers already as reports speculate who would replace Kane.

Tottenham will bid €40m for Santiago Gimenez

It has previously been reported that Spurs are keen on Feyenoord attacker Santiago Gimenez as a potential Kane replacement, but there is expected to be competition for his signature from clubs across Europe (90 Min).

Now, Mexican outlet Jovenes Futbolistas MX have been discussing Gimenez’s future, and suggested Spurs are ready to make their move.

Apparently, Tottenham are “planning to offer” €40m (£34.6m) for the player this summer and have “already met” with his agents.

The problem is, Feyenoord want €50m (£43.3m) for their star striker. Spurs are reportedly aware of this, but would be keen to open negotiations slightly lower to test the water.

Either way, the report makes it clear that no approach will be made for Gimenez until the time comes that Kane moves on.

According to the player’s father in a report from FR12, Gimenez is ‘very happy’ at Feyenoord, but he cannot ‘rule out’ the idea that an offer could come their way this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Santiago Gimenez was on fire last season and would be a great acquisition for Spurs.

No one will be able to fill the boots of Harry Kane, but Gimenez certainly looks a good fit for our ethos and Ange Postecoglou’s system.

Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf have claimed that Feyenoord are keen on signing Arnaut Danjuma, who spent the second half of last season at Tottenham Hotspur.

Danjuma joined Spurs on loan from Villarreal during the January transfer window, with the North London club having had the option to make his move permanent for a £27m fee (Evening Standard).

However, the forward’s time in N17 did not exactly go to plan under Antonio Conte and ended up making just one Premier League start when Ryan Mason took over on an interim basis and the club unsurprisingly decided against taking up the option to sign him following the conclusion of the campaign (transfermarkt).

We relayed a report from The Daily Mail on June 27, which suggested that Crystal Palace had identified Danjuma as a potential replacement for Wilfried Zaha.

Meanwhile, El Periodico Mediterraneo claimed at the start of this month that Everton were also keen on snapping up the winger, having come close to doing so in January, prior to his switch to Spurs.

Danjuma linked with Feyenoord move

De Telegraaf have now claimed that Arne Slot, who came close to taking over as Tottenham’s head coach earlier this summer (talkSPORT), now wants to take Danjuma to Feyenoord.

The report claims that the Dutch coach sees the 25-year-old as ‘a player who fits perfectly into his picture’ due to his ability to drive at the opposition and beat his man.

It is said that the reigning Eredivisie champions face competition from a number European clubs for Danjuma but it is suggested that the player is open to a switch to De Kuip, given that the club can offer him Champions League football.

He spoke about his one regret during his six months at Tottenham in an interview with the Freshly Grounded podcast: “When I reflect back on the previous six months there’s still so much I learned and so much I can better myself in. This whole new Danjuma that I am now compared to six months ago. It just makes me excited for the upcoming season and the future.

“I know that I can better myself in so many things. I’ve watched all of my games back. I get all the stats from my physical stuff during the season and I’ve acquired all the notes I need to get my whole schedule ready for pre-season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Danjuma would undoubtedly set the Eredivisie alight if he moves back to his home country and I can see the 25-year-old being open to the switch since it will bring him to Ronald Koeman’s attention and help him get back into the national team squad.

The 22-year-old, who captained Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title, was linked with a move to Spurs even before Arne Slot emerged as one of the main contenders for the Tottenham hot seat.

The Daily Mirror reported at the start of April that the Lilywhites had sent scouts to watch Kokcu in action this season and they were considering making an offer for him in the summer.

The Turkish international ended up sealing a €30m (£25.8m) switch from Rotterdam to Benfica over the weekend but Kieft believes the midfielder should have looked to move to England instead.

Kokcu should have moved to England, Kieft says

The pundit told De Telegraaf about Kokcu’s move to Lison: “(Benfica) are big club. But in a competition that can be compared to the level of the Eredivisie. So, is Kokcu really going to get better in Lisbon?

“The top Portuguese clubs often succeed in selling their best players to top European clubs.

“However, when you hear that there is English interest and names like Manchester United and Liverpool are mentioned, you wonder; should you choose Benfica at this stage of the transfer window?

“If you are not confident that you will immediately become a regular starter player (at a United or a Liverpool), you can also go to a ‘sub-top’ team in the Premier League.

“And then later make it to the top via Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton and Hove Albion or Aston Villa.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It hurts to see pundits talking about Spurs as a second-tier club along with Brighton and Aston Villa, considering we only finished in the top four last season but we have to accept the reality at the moment.

Hopefully, Postecoglou is the man to take the club back to its rightful place.

The 22-year-old’s performances in the middle of the park have been a key reason why Feyenoord have won the title ahead of the more fancied Ajax and PSV Eindhoven this season.

Dutch outlet 1908.nl claimed a couple of weeks ago that Tottenham have ‘intensively scouted’ the Turkey international this season and suggested that the chances of him leaving Rotterdam were increasing by the day.

The report asserted that there had already been ‘initial contact’ for Kokcu, who was said to be valued at around €40m (£34.7m) by Feyenoord.

Despite Arne Slot’s decision to remain at the club, the midfielder has now refused to rule out the possibility of a summer transfer.

When asked about his future, Kokcu said (via Fabrizio Romano): “I’ve e good relationship with the manager — but in case a bid arrived from the right club, I want to make the next step in my career.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There might be a little bit of bad blood between Spurs and Feyenoord on the back of the way the Dutch club conducted themselves during talks over Arne Slot, with reports alleging that they demanded substantial compensation.

So, I am not sure Tottenham would be too keen to enter into negotiations with the Eredivisie champions for Kokcu this summer.

After snubbing the chance to become the next Tottenham Hotspur manager, Arne Slot has now stated his intention to prevent his club captain Orkun Kokcu from leaving Feyenoord for the North London club.

Arne Slot was considered the frontrunner for the vacancy at Tottenham, but the move failed to materialise and the Dutchman ended up confirming he would be staying with his current club (Dan Kilpatrick).

The 44-year-old won the Eredivisie title with Feyenoord this season and will now lead the club into the Champions League next season.

Orkun Kokcu was the subject of interest from Tottenham, who were keen to complete a double swoop for Feyenoord’s manager and captain according to Algemeen Dagblad (23/05/23 as relayed by Sport Witness).

While Slot is now off the table, there is still a chance Spurs could make a move for the Turkish midfielder, but his manager is not about to let that happen it seems.

Speaking to the Dutch media today (via 1908), Slot said: “I don’t know if you should ask me that question or that can change. You’ll have to put that to him.

“You say, ‘We assume he’s going.’ That’s what you thought of me too and that turned out not to be true either. Orkun is a great player, he can handle a higher level of quality.

“But yes, we will also be active at a higher level as Feyenoord. At least in Europe. So a great opportunity for him as well. Yes, I will do everything I can to try to keep him, that seems clear to me.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Slot had come to Spurs I think the Kokcu move would have been a no-brainer, but there’s no chance he is coming to us now without his manager.

He has Champions League football to look forward to now, so why would he leave all that behind to join a club in disarray?
