Neither Troy Parrott nor Dane Scarlett have managed to start a game during their loan spells with Excelsior Rotterdam and Ipswich Town, respectively. Alasdair Gold has an update on the Tottenham duo, as they continue to make the most of substitute appearances.

Naturally, with attacking talent like Heung-min Son, Richarlison, and Dejan Kulusevski already at the club, and new signings Manor Solomon and Brennan Johnson arriving this summer, there was not quite room for any young forwards at Spurs this season.

As a result, both Troy Parrott and Dane Scarlett were sent out on loan to gain valuable experience and continue their footballing development.

Sadly, the pair are struggling for minutes at their new clubs and have not been given the chance to start a game yet.

Parrott has three goals in seven games, but has played just 112 minutes for the Dutch side (Transfermarkt). Meanwhile, Scarlett has played 125 minutes, but is yet to score in his seven brief appearances for the Tractor Boys (Transfermarkt).

Parrott and Scarlett are both struggling for starts

In his regular loan update for Football.London, Gold commented on the two players and their situations out on loan right now.

Gold details how Parrott is still stuck on the bench for Rotterdam, “despite having notched three goals in his past five Eredivisie matches.”

However, with a cup tie against Den Bosch this week, Parrott “will now be hoping to make his first start” of the season.

For Scarlett, the positive note is that he “continues to get minutes from the bench” for a side who are taking the Championship by storm.

Scarlett has “needed to be patient” but it is known that Ipswich boss, Kieran McKenna, is a “big admirer” of the Spurs youngster, which can only be a good thing for his development.

Spurs Web Opinion

I really hope these two lads start getting more minutes soon, especially Parrott. You get the feeling this could be his last real chance to stake a claim for a regular spot at Spurs, and while he’s scoring goals over in Holland, he really should be in the starting line-up.

Alasdair Gold has compiled his regular roundup of all the Spurs players currently out on loan, including Tanguy Ndombele’s first start for Galatasaray, a couple of wins for Joe Rodon at Leeds United, and a match-winning goal for Troy Parrott.

The crop of first-team players at Tottenham Hotspur are flying high right now, with an eight-game unbeaten run at the start of the campaign. Ange Postecoglou’s side are now top of the Premier League table going into the international break.

While players like Heung-min Son, James Maddison, and Cristian Romero are flourishing in North London, there are a number of players still attached to the club who are plying their trade elsewhere this season.

Whether it be young players looking for valuable first-team experience, or fringe players attempting to prove their worth and secure a permanent move away from Tottenham, all the players out on loan right now have something to work towards.

How are the Spurs loanees performing this week?

In his loan report for Football.London, Alasdair Gold shares what the various Spurs loanees have been up to over the last week.

There was a “big moment” for Tanguy Ndombele this week, with the Frenchman starting for the first time for Galatasaray. He played 62 minutes against Antalyaspor, and also got a six-minute substitute appearance against Manchester United in the Champions League in midweek.

It’s Davinson Sanchez who is stealing the headlines out in Turkey, however. The former Spurs man bagged his first goal for Galatasaray in the 2-0 win over Antalyaspor, and registered two assists in the 3-2 win over Manchester United.

Joe Rodon is back from suspension, and getting praise once again for his performances in the heart of the Leeds United defence. The Welshman featured in back-to-back wins for the Championship side, against QPR and Bristol City, with LeedsLive describing him as “very solid.”

His teammate, Djed Spence, is still out injured for Leeds. As are both Sergio Reguilon at Manchester United, and Japhet Tanganga at Augsburg. The latter, however, is expected to be back in action later this month.

Moving on to the younger talent out and about gaining experience, Troy Parrott is having a great time out in Holland with Excelsior Rotterdam. The 21-year-old scored in back-to-back games recently, including a late winner in the Rotterdam derby, but he is still waiting for his first start.

Dane Scarlett, meanwhile, is having to be very “patient” at Ipswich Town. With the club “absolutely flying” in the Championship, the Spurs man is finding it difficult to break into the team, but did get a ten-minute cameo appearance in the win over Hull City in midweek.

And finally, Alfie Devine has been “drawing plenty of praise” during his time with League One outfit Port Vale. In midweek, the youngster started the game against Bristol Rovers but was replaced at half-time after picking up a yellow card.

Devine then got another 57 minutes under his belt after coming on as a substitute in the first half against Portsmouth, replacing an injured teammate for the defeat at Fratton Park.

Spurs Web Opinion

Plenty of positives this week, with both Joe Rodon potentially pushing himself closer to a permanent switch to Leeds, and Ndombele finally getting his first start.

Parrott continues to impress in the Netherlands and is doing his reputation no harm. But, I do worry about Dane Scarlett at Ipswich. If he doesn’t get a chance soon, we may have to reconsider that agreement.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Troy Parrott netted a late derby-winning goal out on loan with Excelsior in the Netherlands at the weekend.

Parrott is enjoying his fifth loan spell away from Tottenham, having struggled to show his best for Millwall, Preston North End, and Ipswich Town.

His best loan was undoubtedly the full season with MK Dons, in which he played an impressive 47 games and scored ten goals from more of a number-ten role (TransferMarkt).

Troy Parrott scores a great goal for Excelsior

So far with Excelsior, Parrott has netted twice in just four games, with the latest coming in a 2-1 home win over Sparta Rotterdam. The Spurs striker was sent clear and smashed a volley past the keeper in the 94th minute to earn his side an important win.

You can check out the goal below:

Spurs Web Opinion:

This feels like an all-or-nothing season for Troy Parrott. Ange Postecoglou is definitely open to being impressed by young academy players, so if he has a great season out on loan he could find himself with a place in the squad next season.

Alasdair Gold has provided his regular round-up of all the Tottenham Hotspur players who are out on loan right now. Headlines include Tanguy Ndombele’s fitness issues, Joe Rodon picking up a red card, and Troy Parrott getting on the scoresheet.

With a number of new faces arriving at the club this summer, Ange Postecoglou needed to give his squad some balance by shipping players out.

There was, and still is, a great number of peripheral figures at Tottenham whose futures lie elsewhere, but who could not seal a permanent move away this summer. Therefore, a loan move serves the interest of all parties.

Likewise, a handful of young players have temporarily left the club for the season in an effort to gain valuable experience and stake their claim on a first-team spot at Spurs.

What’s going on with the Spurs loanees?

In his report for Football.London, Alasdair Gold shares what all the Spurs loanees have been getting up to, and what has been said about them.

First up is Tanguy Ndombele, who continues to struggle. The Frenchman is yet to start a game for Galatasaray and has been hit with some pretty heavy criticism by Sky Sports’ Batuhan Karadeniz, who claimed the midfielder needed a nutritionist (via Super Haber).

Conversely, Sergio Reguilón is seemingly enjoying life at Manchester United right now. The Spaniard played a part in the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich in midweek, and also got 79 minutes under his belt against Burnley at the weekend. The 26-year-old was even named Manchester United’s “best player” for the game in Germany (Manchester Evening News).

Joe Rodon has been “earning plenty of plaudits” during his loan spell at Leeds United, but was sent off in a 0-0 draw against Hull in midweek.

Japhet Tanganga is currently out injured, but is expected to return to action for Augsburg next month.

Perhaps the highlight of the loan players this week, is Troy Parrott. The young Irishman got himself off the mark for Excelsior Rotterdam with a goal in the 88th minute.

Gold describes how Parrott “received the ball on the edge of the box and curled a beautiful shot into the top right corner, leaving the goalkeeper helplessly watching on.”

Finally, two of Tottenham’s most promising young players continue their development on loan with substitute appearances for Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine.

The former played 12 minutes at the weekend and 19 minutes in midweek, but it is thought “those minutes will continue to rack up” as his Ipswich manager is a “big admirer.”

Devine, meanwhile, played just over an hour for Port Vale in midweek, but was relegated to the bench for the weekend’s action. However, it is the “early steps” of his career, and he has received “plenty of praise” while on loan with the League One side so far.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s great to hear Troy Parrott has got his first goal, and hopefully, it’s the first of many. Dane Scarlett is one I’m watching closely, as this will be a real test for him in the Championship.

As for Tanguy Ndombele, it just keeps getting worse and worse, and he is most definitely a lost cause now.

Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has shared an update on various players the club loaned out this season, including Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga, and Alfie Devine.

In a summer of great upheaval for Spurs, seven new faces arrived through the door at the North London club. With so many new signings, there had to be some outgoings to balance the books and keep the squad from becoming bloated.

Some fans have been disappointed with the club’s inability to sell fringe players this summer, with Harry Winks and Davinson Sanchez the only two peripheral squad players who left the club permanently during the transfer window.

However, plenty of players did leave the club on loan this summer. Youngsters like Alfie Devine, Dane Scarlett, and Troy Parrott all secured moves to ensure they play more first-team football this year, while more experienced heads such as Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga moved on, too.

What have the Spurs loanees been up to recently?

In his regular piece for Football.London, Alasdair Gold had plenty to say about all those players and more.

Gold claims Joe Rodon is “earning plenty of plaudits” at Leeds United so far this season and was given special “praise for his role in keeping a clean sheet” at the weekend. His teammate, Djed Spence, is now out of action for eight weeks with a knee injury.

Meanwhile, over in Turkey, Tanguy Ndombele came off the bench for Galatasaray and played 15 minutes in a 4-2 win over Samsunspor.

Despite not doing anything of particular note in that appearance, it is said that Ndombele will now be “looking to play a part” in his new side’s opening Champions League game this week.

In the Premier League, Sergio Reguilon made his debut for Manchester United and played 85 minutes of the defeat to Brighton. The Spaniard will be hoping for a better result next time out.

As for Tanganga, he is yet to recover from a knee injury and has not featured for Augsburg so far this season. That injury will not be helped by a reported accident at the training ground where the defender fell off a bicycle.

Japhet Tanganga

A player who has made it onto the pitch, however, is Troy Parrot, who “got more game time under his belt,” this weekend, albeit a 19-minute substitute appearance in a 0-0 draw for Excelsior Rotterdam.

Alfie Devine is faring much better at League One side Port Vale. Devine was handed a start by his new side after his “heroics” in the previous game where he provided an assist and scored a penalty.

This time out, the youngster played 75 minutes in a 1-0 win for the high-fliers, and made a “crucial last-ditch tackle” early in the game.

And finally, Dane Scarlett “again had to watch on as an unused substitute” for Ipswich Town as they defeated fellow promoted side, Sheffield Wednesday at the Hillsborough stadium.

Gold claims Scarlett is “going to have to be patient” but reiterates that “big things” are expected when he the young striker does get his chance.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s great to see both Joe Rodon and Alfie Devine performing well on loan. While the former may never return to Spurs, Devine has a bright future at the club and this spell of regular football will help his development hugely. Hopefully, Dane Scarlett can get an opportunity soon and show what he can do, too.

Journalist Darren Lewis has suggested Ange Postecoglou is not quite sure what to do with Tottenham Hotspur youngster Troy Parrott this season.

Developing promising strikers seems to be a strong point for the Tottenham academy, with Troy Parrott so far treading a similar path to club legend Harry Kane.

Having made just four first-team appearances for the Lilywhites (Transfermarkt), Parrott has had to try and make a name for himself through loan spells in lower divisions.

Troy Parrott

(Photo by Tottenham Hotspur FC/Tottenham Hotspur FC via Getty Images)

A successful stint with MK Dons in the 2021/22 campaign saw the Irishman bag ten goals in 47 appearances for the League One side (Transfermarkt).

It was hoped that Parrott could build on that success last season with a loan move to Championship side Preston North End. Injury issues limited the young attacker’s opportunities, but he still managed four goals in 34 games last year (Transfermarkt).

With Kane now playing in Germany, and a new manager at Tottenham, Parrott had spoken of his desire to get a chance in the senior squad under Ange Postecoglou (Irish Examiner).

However, the latest report on the 21-year-old claims he is likely to head out to the Netherlands in the near future (TEAMtalk).

Postecoglou hasn’t made up his mind about Parrott

Discussing the future of Troy Parrott on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Darren Lewis suggested the forward is a good player, but that Postecoglou hasn’t worked out what to do with him yet.

He said: “Let’s not kid ourselves, you still have Troy Parrott and you still have Dane Scarlett. They look capable, but the suggestion is that it’s likely Troy will go out on loan again, and I don’t know if Dane has been given a squad number yet.

“The uncertainty around them suggests to me that maybe Ange isn’t certain about them, even though, to me, Troy looks like a good player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I feel like this season is a big one for Parrott, wherever he ends up. He is still young enough to get his big break, but that’s unlikely to come at Spurs this year, so he needs a successful loan spell if he is to push on and be a first-team player for the club next season.

TEAMtalk report that Troy Parrott looks set to complete a move to the Netherlands in the next few days.

Parrott has had loan spells at Preston, Millwall, Ipswich and MK Dons over the last three years and the striker stated earlier this summer that he is keen to impress Ange Postecoglou and force himself into the Australian’s plans (Irish Examiner).

However, Football Insider claimed two weeks ago that Spurs plan on loaning out the striker again this summer, with two Dutch clubs, one German side and one Spanish side credited with an interest in the Republic of Ireland international.

Troy Parrott

Parrott likely to head to Eredivisie this summer

If TEAMtalk’s latest update is to be believed, Tottenham have made it clear that Parrott is not in Postecoglou’s plans for the upcoming season.

The report states that the 21-year-old is now eyeing a move away from Spurs and that his future will be resolved in the ‘next few days’

The publication asserts that a switch to the Dutch top flight is ‘most likely’ for the Parrott but does not specify if it is likely to be a loan or permanent move or which club the striker is expected to join.

Spurs Web Opinion

Parrott’s game is very well suited to a league like the Eredivisie or La Liga, given his technical ability on the ball and his intelligence. I would not be surprised if he has more success in the Netherlands than he had in the Championship or League One over the past couple of years.

Football Insider have claimed that clubs from the Eredivisie, Bundesliga and La Liga are showing interest in signing Troy Parrott on loan this summer.

Parrott has played in League One and the Championship over the last couple of years, having had mixed success during his spells at Millwall, MK Dons, Preston and Ipswich.

Football Insider claim that the striker, who has made four senior appearances for Tottenham, is now ready for the ‘next step’ in his career.

Troy Parrott

(Photo by Tottenham Hotspur FC/Tottenham Hotspur FC via Getty Images)

Spurs are thought to be willing to send Parrott out on loan, having secured Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central this summer.

Troy Parrott is proving popular across Europe

The report states that several foreign clubs have shown interest in the Republic of Ireland international, including two Dutch clubs, one German side and one Spanish side.

It is alleged that these foreign clubs are battling it out to win the race for the 21-year-old’s signature before the transfer window closes on September 2.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Parrott’s technical quality, I have a feeling that he would fare even better in the Dutch or Spanish top flight than he has in the EFL.

Tottenham should ensure that they loan the striker out to a club where he is guaranteed regular game time as the last thing the 21-year-old needs is to warm the bench for a season.

Tottenham Hotspur board their flight to Australia on Friday to begin their pre-season tour and could be without Djed Spence and Troy Parrott due to injury issues, according to Football.London

Ange Postecoglou will welcome back his senior internationals to Hotspur Way today ahead of the flight to Perth ahead of their first match of the summer when they face Premier League rivals West Ham United at Optus Stadium on July 18.

The Australian revealed in his press conference on Monday that Fraser Forster and Rodrigo Bentnacur will not be part of the tour due to their injuries while he added that a couple of other players are ‘touch and go’.

Tottenham also confirmed last night that Ryan Sessegnon will miss pre-season after the defender sustained a hamstring injury during training and has had to undergo an operation in a bid to permanently fix his recurring muscular problem.

Troy Parrott and Djed Spence could miss Spurs’ pre-season tour due to injury

Meanwhile, The Telegraph claimed yesterday that Hugo Lloris might also stay behind in London as the goalkeeper looks set to seal an exit from the North London club.

This claim has also been seconded by Gold, who has now named the Tottenham captain as one of the players who could remain back at Hotspur Way.

The journalist added that Parrott and Spence are currently recovering from their respective knee and groin injuries, with both youngsters said to be facing a race to be fit to play a part in Tottenham’s pre-season matches.

Spurs Web Opinion

It would be a shame if Parrott and Spence are not involved since both players would have been keen on making a good first impression on Postecoglou.

Even if they are not 100 per cent fit, I would hope that they fly with the squad in the hope that they can recover in time for the latter part of the tour and be part of the building of a new team spirit under the 57-year-old.

Troy Parrott is prepared to do whatever it takes to make it at Tottenham Hotspur and admitted that he is looking forward to working with Ange Postecoglou.

Big things have been expected of Parrott for many years but the youngster has not quite set the world alight in his last two loan spells at MK Dons and Preston North End.

The striker only found the back of the net three times in 32 Championship appearances for Preston in 2022-23 in what was a frustrating injury-hit campaign for the youngster.

The 21-year-old, who has already netted four times for the Republic of Ireland, will now work under yet another new Spurs manager when he turns up for pre-season, having already worked with the likes of Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

However, unlike his predecessors, Postecoglou has a reputation for putting faith in young talent, and Parrott will be hoping to catch the Australian’s eye.

Troy Parrott still aims to make it at Tottenham

The centre-forward admitted that he is excited to see what the 57-year-old can bring to Spurs, having kept a close eye on his success at Celtic.

Parrott told Irish Examiner: “I’ve not spoken to him yet because it only happened recently.

“I want to play for Tottenham so, whatever steps I have to take to get there, I’m willing to do it.

“I support Celtic and I’ve watched quite a few of their games. He seems like a good manager who wants to play good attacking football so we’ll see what happens.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs fans should not write off Parrott because of his struggles at MK Dons and Preston as it is worth remembering that Harry Kane himself flattered to deceive during his loan spells.

However, having said that, at 21 years of age, Parrott is now at the point where he has to impress the coaches at Tottenham if he is to have a realistic shot at forging a career at the club.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott has been speaking about his loan spell with Preston North End this season, but refused to be drawn on where his future lies beyond this campaign.

Parrott has made the step up to Championship football this season, having impressed at League One level with MK Dons last year.

It’s been a difficult campaign for the 21-year-old, with injury interrupting his progress at Preston. Parrott has now made 30 appearances, scoring just three goals (Transfermarkt).

There are just three games left of the normal season, and Preston find themselves within touching distance of a place in the playoffs.

Regardless, Parrott’s loan spell will expire in the near future, at which points decisions will need to be made regarding his next steps.

It remains to be seen whether Parrott can establish himself at Tottenham next season, if at all, or whether he will go out on loan again next season.

Speaking to the Lancashire Evening Post, the player discussed how this season has gone and what his future may hold.

He said: “It’s been different. I don’t want to speak too much on it now but I’m sure if you speak to me at the end of the season I’ll have a better answer for you.

“It depends on the play-offs in a way, we have four games left and anything can happen in those four games.

“No matter what I’ve enjoyed myself here, I’ve met some good people and I’ve had a good time.

“I don’t want to think about that too much right now but I do like it here, I like the players, I like the staff, I like the people around the building but I don’t want to speak on it too early.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s a shame that injury came along because it would have been very useful to see what Troy Parrott can do with a full season in the Championship under his belt.

As it stands, I think he will need to go back on loan to the Championship next season.

In a report from Lancs Live, Tottenham Hotspur youngster Troy Parrott has admitted he doesn’t know what the future holds for him at the club beyond his loan spell with Preston North End.

Parrott came through the Tottenham Hotspur academy and progressed through the youth teams in North London, but has just four first-team appearances to his name so far (Transfermarkt).

He has never quite been given a chance for Spurs, but is considered a top prospect at the club.

The young Irish striker enjoyed a successful loan spell at MK Dons last season, scoring ten goals and registering seven assists for the League One side (Transfermarkt).

He has stepped up a level this year and is currently on loan in the Championship with Preston North End, but has seen his season interrupted by injury issues.

In 23 appearances, Parrott has just three goals for the Lancashire club (Transfermarkt).

It’s unclear what the plan will be for Parrott once the current campaign ends, but the player has spoken on his hopes of breaking into the Tottenham Hotspur first-team in the future.

When asked what next season will hold for the 21-year-old, he said: “I am not sure.

“I hope I have a future at Tottenham – I have always said that’s where I want to play.

“But, we will see how the end of the season goes, then take it into the summer and take it as it comes.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I figure a lot will depend on the managerial situation and the Harry Kane situation at Spurs when it comes to deciding what to do with Troy Parrott.

At the moment, I can’t see him breaking into the team, at least not in the next year.

However, if we get a new manager in the summer who puts more value on youth, there’s every chance Parrott could be given a chance to prove himself.

The more likely scenario is that he will go out to another Championship team next season, though.

After having a couple of cameos as a substitute over the last few weeks, the 21-year-old was given the nod to start in Preston’s clash against Luton Town on Wednesday.

When the home side were awarded a spot-kick in the 83rd minute, Parrott confidently grabbed the ball and scored an emphatic equaliser from 12 yards out.

The Tottenham academy graduate admitted that he had to wrestle the ball from his strike partner, Tom Cannon, who was also keen on taking the penalty.

Parrott told Lancashire Post: “When I saw that the ref had given the handball, no one was getting the ball off me. I wanted to take it, put pressure on myself and score. It was in the net before I even looked up.

“He [Cannon] wanted the pen, which I understand because he’s a striker as well. I’m sure if some of the other boys were on the pitch they’d have wanted it as well. I wanted the pressure, I wanted to take it and I wanted to score, and that’s what I did.

“He understands fully. Once it goes in it’s all good, if it doesn’t then it’s a different story but it did so everyone is happy.”

Parrott stated that it now feels like a fresh start for him at Deepdale Stadium and spoke about his determination to make the most of what is left of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international added: “It’s been a long, long five months since I started a game so to be back out there at Deepdale and getting my first goal here is nice.

“It feels like it’s a new loan. I want to come back and score goals, do well and help the team for the rest of the season and tonight is the start of it.

“I thought at the start of the season that I was playing well, just in the final third it wasn’t happening. Tonight will only give me confidence and I want to score more.

“I don’t think confidence was an issue for me. I was still taking shots and still getting into the areas. I’d be more worried if I wasn’t getting any chances, but I was and even against Luton I had another one that I should have done better with.

“Coming back and playing ninety minutes and scoring when we needed it is big for me. I was buzzing to get that goal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on his words, it is easy to tell that Parrott is a confident young man, who has a lot of belief in himself.

Not many youngsters would demand the spot-kick on their return to the starting eleven after four and a half months.

Let us hope the 21-year-old can have a strong finish to the season so that he returns to Spurs full of confidence for pre-season.

To make matters worse, the 21-year-old suffered a knee injury in Preston’s 2-3 loss at Carrow Road, which sidelined him until January.

The on-loan Tottenham man has got some minutes off the bench since the Championship’s restart and Ryan Lowe decided to hand the striker his first start in over four months for his side’s clash against Luton Town yesterday.

The Republic of Ireland international led the line impressively on his comeback and got his reward in the 83rd minute as he converted from the spot to ensure that ten-men Preston came away with a 1-1 draw.

Spurs Web Opinion

That goal should help Parrott’s confidence as he would have been desperate to get the first one out of the way as soon as possible following his long injury layoff.

Hopefully, the striker now goes on a good run over the next couple of months.

After months of rehabilitation, the on-loan Tottenham man finally returned to action in Preston’s 4-0 loss against Norwich two weeks ago after replacing Daniel Johnson in the 72nd minute of the encounter.

The 20-year-old then got a few more minutes off the bench in the later stages of the club’s 2-1 win away at Birmingham City but he was cup-tied for the FA Cup fourth-round clash against Tottenham last week.

Parrott was not part of Preston’s matchday squad for their 2-1 loss at home against Bristol City on Saturday, with Football.London revealing that the striker was ruled out with a groin problem.

Lowe seemed to hint that the injury was not serious but he did remark that he demanded some answers from the medical department about the striker’s workload.

The Preston boss is quoted as saying: “They both (Parrott and Ben Whiteman) had a little bit of a niggle from Thursday, Friday which I’m disappointed about because I feel Troy has been out for a while and we need to manage him a bit better.

“So I’ve had a word with the fitness department and the physio department.

“There are a couple of things in there that we’ve had to speak about, me, the fitness coach and the physios, how we can prevent it and help them a little better. I don’t want to be losing any players on Thursdays and Fridays, definitely not.

“Ben Whiteman will probably train Monday, Tuesday and Troy will probably train on Thursday. With Troy, he’s been champing at the bit to get back. He’s got a little niggly groin injury and Whiteman is the same.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham would not be too impressed with Preston if Parrott had been rushed back too quickly and his workload had not been managed appropriately. However, it does not sound like the injury is serious and the Championship club might just be taking extra precaution with the 20-year-old.

In their weekly loan update, Football.London have revealed that Harry Winks finally made his first start of the season and completed 90 minutes in Sampdoria’s clash against Udinese over the weekend.

After getting his first minutes of the season as a substitute against Empoli last week, Winks was given the nod to start at home against Udinese and the Tottenham man would have been pleased to come away from the game unscathed despite his side falling to a 1-0 loss.

Harry Winks

Destiny Udogie was one of the starters for the visitors in that match, and Football.London revealed that the left wing-back had two shots, created two chances, had a pass completion rate of 86%, won nine of his duels and made two successful dribbles.

After putting in an impressive display on his return to the starting eleven against Paris Saint-Germain, Joe Rodon kept his place in the side for Rennes’ visit to Marseille but it proved to be a disappointing afternoon for Bruno Genesio’s men, who fell to a 1-0 defeat.

Meanwhile, Tanguy Ndombele had to settle for just five minutes as a substitute as Napoli came away with a win away at Salernitana, a result which saw Luciano Spaletti’s men maintain their 12-point lead at the top of the Serie A.

After recovering from his hamstring injury, Troy Parrott got some minutes off the bench in Preston’s loss to Norwich City and their 2-1 win over Birmingham City but the striker will not be able to feature on Saturday with Ryan Lowe’s men taking on his parent club in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, minutes seem to have dried up for Dane Scarlett, with the teenager being an unused substitute in new manager John Mousinho’s first two league games in charge against Exeter City and Fleetwood Town.

Finally, Football.London also revealed that Giovani Lo Celso has made a huge stride towards returning from his hamstring injury, with the midfielder taking to the training pitch on Tuesday for the first time since his injury.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Winks played all 90 minutes and came through unscathed is fantastic news, with his ankle operation seemingly having the desired effect. The 26-year-old will look to prove a point over the coming months, thus potentially putting himself in the shop window ahead of the summer.

Troy Parrott has admitted that he was hoping to get game time under his belt after returning from injury and so was gutted when he found out that he could not feature in Preston North End’s FA Cup fourth-round clash against his parent club.

Parrott has only found the back of the net twice in 15 appearances for Preston this season (Transfermarkt) as the Championship club struggled as an attacking force in the first part of 2022-23.

The 20-year-old picked up a knee injury at the start of October and has subsequently missed 13 matches so far across all competitions.

The mid-season break for the World Cup gave the striker the time he needed to recover and he made his comeback in Preston’s 4-0 loss to Norwich last week after replacing Daniel Johnson in the 72nd minute of the encounter.

The Spurs academy graduate got a few more minutes off the bench in the later stages of the club’s 2-1 win away at Birmingham City on Saturday.

Parrott would perhaps have been hoping to get his first start in over three months in Preston’s FA Cup fourth-round tie but the striker will not be able to play a part as his side were drawn against Spurs.

He said on The Weekend Warm Up on Preston’s YouTube channel about the upcoming clash: “Obviously it will be a good game to watch at Deepdale. I was a bit gutted in a way that I can’t play.

When asked if he will be able to fill in Ryan Lowe’s side on Tottenham, the 20-year-old laughed and responded: “No, I’m staying out of that one.”

The striker also opened up on the challenges of working his way back to full fitness and admitted that he is now raring to go.

He added: “I’m obviously buzzing to be back out there at the weekend, although the [Norwich] result wasn’t what we wanted.

“On a positive note for me, it has been a long three months and tough as well, mentally and physically, so to be back out there with the boys on the pitch, just running around and touching a ball again, I’m happy.

“Thinking back on it now, the first six or seven weeks went really quick, it was just about getting the mobility back in my hamstring. I think it started to drag a little bit when I was back on the pitch where I’m kicking balls, running around but I can’t get back involved with the lads yet.

“It was tough just being out on the training pitch just me and the physios and sport scientists, but just me on my own. It was tough every day having to go in the gym and finishing late. Now that I think about it and I’m back training, it was all worth it.

“I feel sharp, I feel strong. There’s nothing in the back of my mind thinking about the injury. It’s gone to me,” he said. “I’m just ready to get back going now, get back on the pitch, take some chances, score some goals and be back out there with the boys getting good results.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Parrott will likely need a few more weeks to work himself into match fitness. Hopefully, the striker will find his scoring boots over the next couple of months and return to Tottenham in the summer full of confidence.

In their weekly update on the Tottenham players who are out on loan, Football.London have revealed that Joe Rodon was one of the stars of the show for Rennes in their memorable win over Paris Saint-Germain.

The centre-back, who has had to be content with a place on the bench since the Ligue 1’s restart, was handed his first start of the year as Rennes shifted to back three against PSG.

The Welshman excelled against the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar as Bruno Genesio’s side emerged 1-0 winners at home. According to Fotmob, Rodon had five clearances, two blocks, two recoveries and one interception, while he also won his two ground duels and one aerial duel.

Rodon was unable to help Rennes make it back-to-back wins last night when they crashed out of the French Cup, suffering a 1-0 defeat at Marseille.

Meanwhile, Destiny Udogie’s Udinese were on the end of yet another defeat last weekend against Bologna, although the left wing-back himself put in a decent display, looking quite threatening in the final third.

As Spurs Web covered earlier this week, Harry Winks made his first appearance of the season for Sampdoria in their 1-0 defeat against Empoli, with the midfielder getting around 30 minutes under his belt after coming on in the 62nd minute.

Sergio Reguilon, who like Winks has also missed the entirety of the first half of the season due to injury, did not have an outing to remember for Atletico in their 1-1 draw at Almeria on Sunday as he was given his marching orders.

The left-back came on as a substitute midway into the second half, only to get a booking for dissent in the 85th minute before picking up his second yellow four minutes later after catching an opponent with his arm.

Tanguy Ndombele played 102 minutes for Napoli as they were knocked out of Coppa Italia by Cremonese, with the Frenchman’s performance arguably being one of the only positives in what was an evening to forget for Luciano Spalletti’s men.

Troy Parrott made his first appearance since suffering a hamstring injury back in October, coming on for an 18-minute cameo against Norwich, with Preston North End being on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline.

Dane Scarlett played 72 minutes in Portsmouth’s 1-0 defeat to Bolton in the Papa Johns Trophy last week before getting another seven minutes off the bench over the weekend in a League One clash against the same opponents.

Giovani Lo Celso continues to work his way back from the injury which kept the midfielder out of the World Cup.

Spurs Web Opinion

Let us hope this performance is the start of Rodon’s turnaround at Rennes and the centre-back is able to force himself into Bruno Genesio’s starting eleven over the coming weeks and months.

Spurs will find it difficult to find a buyer for the 25-year-old next summer if he continues warming the bench in France (assuming Rennes do not take up the option to sign him permanently).

In their weekly update on the Tottenham players who are out on loan, Football.London have revealed that Udinese boss Andrea Sottil waxed lyrical about Destiny Udogie.

Udogie was one of the best players on show in Udinese’s 1-1 draw against Empoli last week, picking up his second assist of the season and the left-back subsequently played 69 minutes on Saturday as the Serie A club fell to a 1-0 loss to Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.

Sottil admitted after the defeat that the 20-year-old was not 100 per cent fit but remarked that the Italy Under-21 international is developing nicely.

He said about Udogie (via Football.London): “He is extraordinary, he has to take care of the defensive phase and sometimes try to put fast balls in the middle without touching the ball too many times.

“Today he had a limited playing time, it must be managed because he had a delicate injury. We recovered him for tonight with a reduced playing time, but he has grown a lot.”

Meanwhile, Harry Winks, who has been hampered by an ankle injury so far this season, was named in Sampdoria’s matchday squad for the first time on Sunday and was an unused substitute as they fell to a 2-0 loss to Napoli.

Tanguy Ndombele came on for a 20-minute cameo in the same game but Luciano Spalletti did not seem to be best pleased with the midfielder’s work, with the 63-year-old seen asking the on-loan Tottenham man after the final whistle: “Why you stay there? Why you stay there?”

Football.London also revealed that Sergio Reguilon, who had a year to forget in 2022, has had a promising start to the new year, having got minutes off the bench in Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 defeat at Barcelona on Sunday as well as in their Copa del Rey clash against Real Oviedo in midweek.

Meanwhile, Joe Rodon has been an unused substitute in all of Rennes’ matches since the restart while Giovani Lo Celso remains sidelined with the hamstring injury that saw him miss the World Cup.

Dane Scarlett was not eligible to play against his parent club in Portsmouth’s 1-0 FA Cup third-round loss against Spurs on Saturday while Troy Parrott is expected to be back on the pitch soon for Preston North End after recovering from his injury.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fabio Paratici’s decision to sign Udogie looks better and better with each game that the 20-year-old plays for Udinese. It looks like we have a real gem on our hands. However, Spalletti’s public criticism of Ndombele is a little concerning as it seems like Napoli might reconsider whether they want to activate the option to sign the Frenchman permanently.
