Football.London have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have now submitted a planning application to Enfield Council to extend the first-team area of Hotspur Way, with the move intended to help the future first-team head coach and his coaching staff.

Tottenham’s Enfield base is considered to be one of the best facilities in the world, with the training ground often used by England and other national teams when they play in London.

Since it was first built back in 2012, the club have made continuous improvements to Hotspur Way, with work currently underway to build a new media centre.

Football.London have now reported that Spurs want to extend the first team training centre building to help house their ever-growing numbers of coaching staff.

The report explains that the proposal is for ‘a single-storey extension to the northernmost bay protrusion of the first team wing in order to provide additional facilities for use by the first-team coaches, including new dedicated office spaces, private offices and meeting rooms’.

In the application that the club submitted to Enfield Council, they explained that the recent advancements in sport science and other developments around the game have necessitated the need for more resources for the coaching staff.

The application, prepared by F3 Architects, reads: “The brief for the proposed first team extension has developed as a direct response to the club’s ongoing operational needs, as they seek to continue their success at the highest level of European football.

“The club is committed to continue delivering a high-quality service and talent development suited for a top-tier football team.

“As a result, the size and existing facilities in its current building must follow suit in terms of expansion and improvement, within this advancing field of sports facilities.

“Since the training centre opened nearly 10 years ago in late 2012 there have been a number of developments across the elite men’s professional game and sports science that now require the club to investigate the need to expand the first team wing at the training centre.

“This would support the operational and training requirements of the first team, and help to maintain the facility’s world-class status, which is vital to club’s ability to perform at the highest national and international levels, as well as attract future talent.

“These new developments in sports science have required the number of permanent staff members to increase from 105 in 2016 to 190 in 2021, due to the expansion of existing departments within the centre, and a number of newly formed ones.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The Hotspur Way complex, along with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, is one of the club’s crown jewels as players and managers who come to the facility cannot help but be impressed.

It is good to see that the club are making continuous improvements to the training ground and are not sparing any expenses in giving their coaches, staff and players the best facilities to help them prepare and recover.

Football.London have revealed that the Spurs coaching staff might work with just four first-team stars when they return to Hotspur Way this week, with the others either on international duty or out injured.

Following Conte’s now infamous rant on Saturday in which he accused every single one of his players of being selfish and not playing for the team, it has unsurprisingly emerged that the Italian has lost a significant portion of the dressing room.

Both The Guardian and The Sun have reported over the last 48 hours that some Tottenham players would be happy to see the 53-year-old relieved of his duties immediately.

Many will be able to avoid an awkward meeting with their head coach over the coming days as the bulk of the squad is now away on international duty.

Football.London report that only Arnuat Danjuma, Lucas Moura, Clement Lenglet and Japhet Tanganga will be at Hotspur Way this week among the first-team squad.

While Ben Davies and Richarlison have withdrawn from the Wales and Brazil squads respectively due to injury, it is explained that they might not be fit to rejoin training until the days preceding the clash against Everton.

It has also emerged that Hugo Lloris has returned for rehabilitation work.

Spurs Web Opinion

Most Tottenham players will be hoping that Conte would have been asked to pack his bags by the time they return to Hotspur Way from international duty.

One cannot really blame them following the Italian’s outburst on Saturday as the players will look at it as an attempt by the 53-year-old to absolve himself of any blame and put the entirety of it on the squad.

The Tottenham players were back on the training pitch at Hotspur Way earlier today as part of their preparations for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea.

The derby is always a huge match for both sets of supporters, however, this fixture has added importance with Spurs looking to keep the pressure on Newcastle United in the race for a top four finish while Chelsea continue to struggle and currently find themselves down in tenth position, eleven points behind their opponents and have played a game less.

Antonio Conte remains in Italy as part of his recovery from his recent gallbladder removal surgery and is unlikely to be in the dugout this weekend to face his former employer (Mail).

Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up towards a return to Premier League action later this month, as a number of World Cup stars return to first-team training.

Ben Davies and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were among the returnees this week and took part in sessions at Hotspur Way over the past 48 hours.

Training photos showed Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp, Alfie Whiteman, Brandon Austin, Japhet Tanganga, Matt Doherty, Clement Lenglet, Bryan Gil, Harvey White, Emerson Royal, Djed Spence, Pape Matar Sarr, Davinson Sanchez, Ben Davies, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Dejan Kulusevski, Ryan Sessegnon, and Lucas Moura at Hotspur Way.

This comes after Moura, Sessegnon, Emerson, and Lenglet all missed the friendly against Motherwell as a precaution (Football London). Heung-min Son was also pictured back in training in a Tottenham Instagram reel today.

Tottenham are next in action on December 21 when they take on Nice in a mid-season friendly, ahead of their return to competitive action on Boxing Day against Brentford in the Premier League.

It’s good to see those players with knocks still training at Hotspur Way, so it should be a near-full squad for the Boxing Day match against Brentford. Fingers crossed Hugo Lloris and Cristian Romero come through their remaining games without injury.

A section of the players who have not travelled to Qatar resumed training this week, with Spurs getting their Premier League season back underway in three and a half weeks with a clash against Brentford on Boxing Day.

Spurs confirmed that Alfie Whiteman was among the players who were at Hotspur Way on Monday, with the goalkeeper having concluded the 2022 Swedish Allsvenskan season on loan at Degerfors IF.

In the training video shared by the club, the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Clement Lenglet, Oliver Skipp, Djed Spence and Emerson Royal, were all being put through the paces, and they were joined by some youngsters from the club’s academy.

Spurs Web Opinion

Some players like Matt Doherty, Lucas Moura, Ryan Sessegnon and Bryan Gil were not seen in the video or in the training gallery while Antonio Conte and his coaching staff were also absent. One would expect all of them to resume their work over the coming days.

The Evening Standard have revealed that Tottenham have decided against organising a warm-weather training camp during the break as the club could not find a facility to match Hotspur Way.

Antonio Conte admitted in his pre-match press conference on Thursday that Spurs decided against a warm-weather training camp since they could not find a suitable ‘solution’ (Football.London).

The Evening Standard have now explained that the North London club simply could not find any facilities that would provide the advantages of their state-of-the-art Hertfordshire training centre.

The report reveals that Tottenham are the only club from the ‘big six’ who will not spend their six-week break overseas.

Four of the other clubs, barring Manchester United, will spend their break in the Middle East so their international players can easily return after the World Cup in Qatar.

The Evening Standard also add that Conte’s men are planning up to three behind-closed-doors friendlies before they resume the season on Boxing Day against Brentford.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that there are in-door training facilities at Hotspur Way, the temperature would not be a big issue for the Tottenham players. The other big six clubs might have also decided to stay in England if they had the facilities to match ours.

Antonio Conte and his backroom staff have been preparing the Spurs players in their final training session ahead of tomorrow evening’s match against Sporting.

The Champions League represents a welcome distraction for the north Londoners given their recent form in the Premier League.

There was no sign of Cristian Romero and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on the Hotspur Way training pitches with both players also having missed the home defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday.

Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison are still on the sidelines with their respective hamstring and calf issues as Antonio Conte faces a decision on whether to change his side amid the disappointing outing against the Magpies.

Spurs head into the match knowing that a victory under the lights at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will book their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Conte’s side overtook Sporting at the top of Group D after the last match day with the Portuguese side having lost consecutive matches to Marseille.

The Athletic have revealed that the majority of the Tottenham squad will report to Hotspur Way for pre-season on July 4.

Antonio Conte’s men are set to fly to South Korea on July 9 where they will face a K-League All-Star team and Sevilla in two exhibition games in the Coupang Play Series.

After their Asian tour, they’ll return to the UK to take on Rangers at the Ibrox on 23 July before flying to Israel to compete in the I-Tech Cup against AS Roma on 30 July.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold previously revealed that the Tottenham players who are involved in international games this month will get three weeks off and return in time for the trip to South Korea.

However, The Athletic have now revealed that the majority of the Spurs squad are expected to report for pre-season next Monday.

Football London add that the likes of Yves Bissouma, Hugo Lloris, Cristian Romero, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Son Heung-min, Harry Kane and other internationals will return a little later before the trip to Korea.

The report adds, however, that Oliver Skipp, Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty begin pre-season training at Hotspur Way today as the trio continue rehabilitating from their injuries.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that the majority of Tottenham’s first-team squad were involved in competitive international matches this month, one would expect most players to return to Hotspur Way relatively fit.

Conte and his coaching staff would have likely also given the players specific fitness instructions to be followed during their holidays so that they do not completely lose their conditioning when they report back for pre-season.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that ‘a very wealthy’ person was recently shown around the Hotspur Way training ground amidst reports of Tottenham being up for sale.

The Athletic reported last month that Tottenham are now more for sale now than they have ever been, with potential investors having to pay £3 billion to buy Tottenham: £2.3 billion for the shares, plus £700 million of debt.

The report stated that several investors had shown interest in buying the North London club, including Singaporean businessman Forest Li and American businessman Todd Boehly.

The Daily Record subsequently revealed that an American-based special purpose acquisition company LAMF Global Ventures had even made an offer to buy the club.

However, it was explained that the bid was rebuffed by Daniel Levy since the takeover would have entailed the club relisting on a stock exchange for the first time since 2012.

Gold has now revealed that a wealthy individual was recently given a tour of the facilities at the club, with the journalist suggesting it could have been to do with potential investment into the club or a party interested in the stadium’s naming rights.

Gold said on his YouTube channel: “There’s always little bits and pieces and rumours of potential investment at Tottenham.

“I know that one chap was shown around the training ground not too long ago who was a very wealthy person.

“I’m keeping an eye on exactly what that is. It could have been a naming rights partner that didn’t come to pass or a potential investor.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The club’s ownership is not popular with parts of the fan base and so some fans would be desperate for the club to be sold as soon as possible.

However, the reality is that a deal like this one is going to take time and Levy will not be in a hurry to push through a sale as he would want to find the right party.

Levy clearly cares about his legacy at Spurs and he would probably want to stay on as the chairman for a while even if a sale goes through to ensure a smooth transition.

Football.London have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have submitted a new planning application to construct a media centre at their Hotspur Way training complex in Enfield.

Hotspur Way is one of the most state-of-the-art training facilities in the world but the club continue to make improvements to the centre.

It is revealed that work is currently being done on a single-storey extension to the club’s academy building to not only benefit the academy players but to also give a dedicated space to Tottenham Hotspur Women for training and working.

In addition, the report states that an application has been submitted to Enfield Council for a two-storey extension to build a new media centre on the end of the first team building.

The media centre will have film studios for visual content creation alongside associated storage space, while the first-floor level will provide work and meeting facilities for the club’s press and media teams.

The new facilities will house desk space for 30 to 35 staff in total, an editing suite with desks for seven staff, an editing space within the large studio, a press director office which doubles as additional flexible meeting space, a separate meeting room, an open-plan office, meeting booths and ‘creative thinking space’.

In addition, Football.London reveal that there will also be three studios in the media centre, including an informal studio ‘living room’, a formal interview studio, a green screen/VR studio, and other additional facilities.

Spurs Web Opinion

Continuing to upgrade the training centre is not only good for the first-team, academy set up and the women’s team, but it also makes the club more lucrative to potential investors.

That could be one of the motivations behind the improvements, given that Spurs are reported to be more for sale now than they have been for any time under ENIC’s ownership (Athletic).

The Tottenham players were back on the training pitch at Hotspur Way earlier today as part of their preparations for the trip to Brighton in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

Spurs will be looking to put the disappointment of the nature of the defeat to Manchester United on Saturday evening behind them with a must-win game at the Amex Stadium to keep alive their outside chance of finishing in the top four.

Set pieces have continued to prove a problem for Antonio Conte’s side in recent weeks which included Ronaldo’s winner at Old Trafford and is something that needs to be addressed.

Among the players spotted training were Hugo Lloris, Pierluigi Gollini, Brandon Austin, Timothee Lo-Tutala, Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon, Ben Davies, Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Harvey White, Rodrigo Bentancur, Harry Winks, Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn, Dane Scarlett, Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

SpursWeb Opinion

Conte talked about having suitable time on the training ground with his players in between matches and with only 11 games left to play, the players really do need to start to iron out the silly defensive lapses we witnessed at the weekend.

Don Hutchison has heard from former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood that some of the Spurs players might be staying at the club’s training ground.

Tottenham are one of several Premier League clubs to have had a Covid-19 outbreak in their camp this month.

The first-team complex of the club’s training ground was closed down for a few days as a result and Spurs saw multiple fixtures being postponed.

The situation has now returned to normal at Tottenham but Hutchinson has now suggested the North London club may be taking measures to ensure that there is not a second outbreak among the playing squad.

The pundit revealed he had heard from Sherwood that some of Tottenham’s first-team players are currently staying at the Spurs lodge in Hotspur Way so they can remain in their own bubbles.

He also revealed that he heard Antonio Conte is working the players harder on the training field than they were previously.

The former Everton midfielder said on BBC’s Football Daily podcast (29/12/21): “I was speaking to Tim Sherwood and we were chatting.

“This isn’t confirmed. But he was telling me that they might be, because there are only so many facilities that have got hotels and chefs you can stay. Tottenham is one.

“He thinks some of the players might be staying at the training ground in their own little bubble.

“What he did say is that ‘Conte is training them’. I think he is good friends with Harry Kane – I think that’s what he is doing, he is working them harder.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It would certainly make sense for Spurs to make use of their facilities and to ensure that the players stay in their own bio-bubble as much as possible. However, I doubt if it would be a long-term solution given that the players would want to return home to their families.

The Evening Standard have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are now putting their first-team squad through daily COVID tests in order to have as many players back in training as possible.

Spurs shut down the first-team section of Hotspur Way last week after an outbreak of the virus among the squad.

It was reported that some members of the first-team squad returned to training on Monday, including two of the players who had returned positive tests last week.

According to Football.London, as things stand, Tottenham expect their clash against Leicester on Thursday to go ahead.

The Evening Standard have now revealed that Conte put the players who are back in training through a gruelling double session on Monday. The Italian is said to be hopeful that he can field a team for the clash at the King Power on Thursday.

Finally, it is explained that with the club now testing their players every day, they are hopeful that most of their senior players will be able to return from isolation this week.

Some are expected to be back for Thursday’s game while others are expected to be available for the clash against Liverpool on Sunday.

Spurs Web Opinion

Going by the various reports over the last few days, it does sound like Spurs are determined to ensure they can field a team for Thursday’s fixture.

That is certainly understandable as Conte’s men cannot afford to have another match postponed following the Burnley and the Brighton games.

Tottenham academy coach, Sam Cox has raved about the work that Yaya Toure has done with the youngsters coming through the club’s ranks at Hotspur Way.

Toure is considered one of the Premier League’s modern greats, having won three Premier League titles during his time at the Etihad.

Since retiring from the game in 2020, he has spent time working towards his badges with QPR, Blackburn and the Welsh FA, and has also served as an assistant coach at Ukrainian side Olimpik Donetsk and Russian club Akhmat Grozny.

It emerged two weeks ago that the former City star landed a role with the Spurs academy as he continues to work towards his UEFA A-License.

It was revealed that the 38-year-old would be working with academy manager Dean Rastrick and head of youth coaching Chris Powell.

Cox, who himself came through the ranks at Spurs as a youngster, before going on to have a career in the lower leagues, has admitted the experiences Toure has shared with the young players has been invaluable for their development.

Here’s what the Spurs academy coach tweeted about the former midfielder:

Spurs Web Opinion

The young players at the Spurs academy would have likely have been left awestruck by having the opportunity to work with someone of Toure’s calibre.

They would have hung by his every word and the experiences that the 38-year-old would have shared with them will likely stay with them for a long time.

Jonathan Veal has revealed that two of the Tottenham players who tested positive for COVID-19 last week were back in training at Hotspur Way today.

The first-team section of Tottenham’s training centre was closed down last week due to an outbreak of the virus at the club.

Reports emerged this morning that there had been an additional positive test among the first-team squad.

Football.London revealed that despite the additional positive test, Antonio Conte did return to the training ground today along with some members of his squad.

It was also explained that Spurs remain hopeful that the first-team section at Hotspur Way will be fully functional over the coming days provided the results of further rounds of tests are promising.

Veal has now also taken to social media to confirm that some players were put through their paces at Hotspur Way today, including two players who had initially tested positive for the virus.

Spurs Web Opinion

Let us hope that closing off the first-team training facility has arrested the spread of the virus and that there are no additional positive cases over the coming days. Conte will likely want as many members of his squad as possible to work with over the next couple of days if Tottenham’s clash against Leicester is indeed going to go ahead.

Football.London have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur now have to make a decision on whether to close down the academy section of Hotspur Way after another COVID outbreak.

The first-team section of the club’s training ground was closed down last week after an outbreak of the virus among Antonio Conte’s squad.

The Telegraph revealed today that while players were due to return to training on Monday, the club suffered another blow with the news that an additional first-team member had tested positive.

The report also stated there had been a substantial outbreak of COVID among Tottenham’s Under-23 squad.

Football.London have now also confirmed that information, revealing that the club have sent the Under-23s home following the positive tests.

The report explains that despite the positive test from one additional first-team member, the North London club are hopeful they can open the first-team areas of Hotspur Way over the coming days.

However, the club are expected to make an assessment as to whether the academy side of the training complex can remain open.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would expect Spurs to err on the side of caution and close down the academy section of Hotspur Way to avoid any risk of further spread. The last thing the club would want is for the virus to spread again among the first-team squad and potentially risk another postponement.

The Daily Mail have claimed that some Tottenham players look set to return to training at Hotspur Way from tomorrow.

The first-team area at the club’s training ground has been shut down following an outbreak of Covid-19 at the club last week.

Spurs’ Europa Conference League clash against Rennes and their Premier League clash against Brighton were both called off, with the club’s match against Leicester on December 16 also reportedly in doubt.

Football.London claimed on Saturday that Spurs are waiting for the results of another round of testing conducted over the weekend before making a decision on when to open the first-team section of Hotspur Way.

The Daily Mail have now revealed that If those results are negative, the National Institute for Health Protection will allow the training ground to be reopened.

The unaffected first-team players could be set return to the training ground as early as tomorrow.

In addition, it is explained that Tottenham are hopeful that they would be able to fulfill their Premier League fixture at Leicester on Thursday.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is very good news for Spurs as having their clash against Leicester also postponed following the Burnley and Brighton fixtures would have resulted in a massive fixture pile up over the resulting weeks and months. Hopefully, the results of the tests conducted over the weekend are encouraging.

Football.London have claimed that Spurs are waiting for the results of another round of testing conducted over the weekend before making a decision on when to open the first-team section of Hotspur Way.

The report stated that the number of cases at the club is now ‘heading in the right direction.

If the Mail’s latest update is to be believed, the players could be back at the training ground sooner than expected.

It is explained that if the next round of COVID tests yield promising results, some Spurs stars could return to training at Hotspur Way within the next 48 hours.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if the results are promising in the next round of testing, the club will be ultra-cautious and not want to risk further spread in case of potential false negatives. So, I do not expect them to open the first-team section at Hotspur Way for a good few days.

Football.London have revealed the Tottenham Hotspur players will undergo another round of testing over the weekend in order to determine when the squad can return to Hotspur Way.

The first-team section of the club’s training ground has been closed following a breakout of COVID-19 at Tottenham, with the players now training from home.

Tottenham’s Europa Conference League clash against Rennes and their Premier League clash against Brighton were subsequently called off.

According to reports, Spurs are unlikely to be in a position to field a team against Leicester on December 16 either, with many at the club only expecting the team to return to action against Liverpool on Sunday, December 19.

Football.London have now explained that Spurs are having to take their return to action on a day-by-day basis at the moment.

The eight players who returned positive tests this week are now isolating and they all have differing return days depending on when they first tested positive or started showing symptoms.

The report adds that following the closing down of the first-team complex at Hotspur Way, the number of cases at the club is now ‘heading in the right direction’.

However, it is explained that a return date has not yet been pencilled in by the club and their decision will be guided by the results of a further round of tests, which will be administered today.

Spurs Web Opinion

Due to the threat of potential false-negative tests and also the incubation period of the virus, the club will likely want to be extra cautious and not open the first-team section of Hotspur Way unless they are convinced that the breakout has been stopped.
