After making his debut for Tottenham Hotspur against Liverpool yesterday, Alejo Veliz has described it as a ‘dream come true’.
Even though James Maddison and Son Heung-min started for Spurs yesterday, Ange Postecoglou was short of attacking options on the bench, with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Bryan Gil, Ivan Perisic and Brennan Johnson out with injuries.
So, with Tottenham chasing a winner, the Australian decided to throw Veliz on to partner Richarlison upfront in the final minutes of the game, with the Argentine striker replacing James Maddison just ahead of injury time.
Tottenham kept pushing and yet again found a late match-winner, although there was some fortune with how they got it, with Joel Matip turning Pedro Porro’s low cross into his own net.
A wild celebration ensued from the Spurs players in front of a raucous south stand, with Veliz very much being in the thick of the celebration.

The response to his post from the likes of Gil, Lo Celso, Romero and Porro shows that Veliz is already quite popular in the changing room and that the Spanish speakers at the club have taken the youngster under their wing.
