Ben Jacobs has said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast (starting at 49:40) that Sergio Reguilon’s proposed switch to Real Sociedad is expected to be completed.
Although Reguilon did get minutes during pre-season, it has always seemed likely that he would be offloaded this summer despite the injury to Ryan Sessegnon, with both Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies ahead of the Spaniard in the pecking order.
Several sources, including Fabrizio Romano, have revealed over the last few weeks that Sociedad are eyeing a move for the 26-year-old.
Deal likely to go through for Sergio Reguilon
Jacobs has now revealed that Sociedad remain interested in Reguilon and have identified him as a ‘high priority’ before the transfer window closes.
The La Liga club are allegedly looking to sign the former Real Madrid man on loan with an option to buy. Jacobs asserts that while Tottenham were initially looking to agree on an obligation to buy, they are comfortable with giving Sociedad an option.
The journalist states that as thing stands, there is a ‘high likelihood’ that the deal will go through but he adds that Reguilon is also attracting interest from other Spanish sides and from France.
Spurs Web Opinion
While Reguilon is evidently not good enough for a club with top-four aspirations, he is certainly a decent player and can prove a valuable asset for Sociedad if he stays injury-free next season.
So there is a good chance that the La Liga side could exercise the option to buy the 26-year-old next summer as long he proves his fitness.
