The Daily Mirror claim that Tottenham Hotspur have been alerted to Jota’s situation as the wide-man has been frozen out at Al Ittihad
Jota made a £25m switch to Al Ittihad in the summer but The Mirror reveal that he will not be able to feature for the side in the Saudi Pro League.
This is because Saudi clubs are only allowed to use eight overseas players domestically but Al Ittihad have nine at their disposal, which means that the Portuguese star can only play in the AFC Champions League and Club World Cup games this season.
It is explained that several Premier League clubs, including Spurs, are now keeping an eye on the attacker’s situation.
Tottenham are keeping an eye on ex-Celtic star Jota
The Mirror add that Ange Postecoglou wants to add another forward to his squad after the injury sustained by Ivan Perisic and that the Australian could be in favour of reuniting with the 24-year-old, who had a lot of success under him at Celtic.
However, the publication explains that Jota’s request to have his contract terminated has been rejected by Al Ittihad, with boss Nuno Espirito Santo keen to keep hold of the player.
Spurs Web Opinion
I suspect this is baseless speculation based simply on the fact that Postecoglou worked with Jota at Celtic. I do not think there is much evidence to support that the 24-year-old is good enough for a top-six Premier League side.
