Alasdair Gold thinks Pape Matar Sarr does not get the accolades he deserves, predicting that the midfielder would be talked about in more glowing terms if he was playing for Manchester City or Arsenal.

The biggest compliment that one can give to Sarr is that Tottenham have hardly felt the absence of Rodrigo Bentancur so far this season, even though the Uruguayan was arguably Spurs’ most consistent performer before his ACL injury.

The 21-year-old has formed a formidable partnership in the middle of the park with Yves Bissouma, relentlessly running and pressing the opposition whenever Spurs lose the ball and also proving quite tidy in possession.

What is perhaps most surprising about the Senegal international is the tactical maturity that he is showing at such a young age, with many Tottenham fans hopeful that he will evolve into a world-class player as he gets more experience under his belt.

Does Pape Matar Sarr get the credit he deserves?

Gold admitted that he is quite shocked Sarr is not heralded more in the media, given how well he is performing for the Premier League leaders at the moment.

The journalist said on the Gold & Guest talk Tottenham podcast about the midfielder: “He’s just 21, that’s what I just find so ridiculous about him as well.

“And I do wonder if he was playing for a [Manchester] City, Arsenal, even maybe Man United, just one of these clubs that are slightly more heralded than Spurs are right now.

“Or even let’s say a Brighton because of the talent they’ve produced, do you think everyone would be raving about him? I kind of think they would. He’s almost gone under the radar at Spurs.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe that one of the main reasons that Sarr has gone under the radar is because several Tottenham players have been in top form this season.

The likes of Maddison, Bissouma, Son, Udogie, Van de Ven and Vicario have all caught the eye, which is why the contributions of a functional player like Sarr, who does not necessarily have a lot of flair, is being overlooked.

Alasdair Gold has praised Pape Matar Sarr for his impact this season, revealing that many clubs across the continent saw Tottenham’s acquisition of the player from Metz back in 2021 as a fantastic coup.

There has been a lot said and written about the impact that new signings, James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario have had at Tottenham and how the trio, along with Destiny Udogie, have settled in seamlessly into the new environment in N17.

In addition, many column inches have also been dedicated to Yves Bissouma’s transformation from last season and Son Heung-min’s emergence as a leader.

Amidst all this, Sarr’s displays have gone under the radar, with the 21-year-old, who hardly got a look in under Antonio Conte last season, making himself a fixture in Ange Postecoglou’s midfield.

The Senegalese international’s ability to eat up ground has been a potent weapon for the Lilywhites off the ball while the youngster has also been quite tidy in possession.

Has Pape Matar Sarr gone under the radar for Spurs?

Speaking about Sarr’s impact, Gold has now said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast: “It just struck me that I don’t think people outside Spurs realise how good he (Sarr) is.

“I think he’s well respected on the continent, it was seen as a real coup that Spurs managed to get him in the first place from Metz.

“It’s almost like now, everyone’s drawn to the names and they’re ignoring the fact that this 21-year-old is running games at times from the midfield. I mean, he had more touches than any other midfielder on the pitch on Friday.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One of the reasons that Sarr’s contribution gets discounted is that he does not do anything flashy on the ball, especially compared to his midfield partners Bissouma and Maddison.

However, it is the 21-year-old’s engine and tenacity that enables the likes of Maddison to play with freedom as the youngster ensures that we are not as susceptible to counter-attacks when we lose the ball.

Perhaps a little surprisingly, Pape Matar Sarr has named Cristian Romero as the best player in training at Tottenham.

Romero’s lacklustre performances last season were a source of much frustration for Spurs fans, particularly since it was clear that the 25-year-old was extremely talented, given his performances at the international level and the start he had to his Tottenham career.

Much to the supporters’ delight, the 25-year-old has returned to his old self this season, putting in the sort of dominant displays that we see him do for Argentina.

Romero has also managed to control his aggression much better, which is perhaps the consequence of him now becoming the leader of the new-look young Spurs backline.

Having a reliable centre-back partner beside him in the form of Micky van de Ven has certainly helped the former Atalanta man, who is clearly held in very high regard by his teammates.

Cristian Romero is impressing at Hotspur Way

Pedro Porro labelled the defender as the best centre-back in the world on Instagram this week, and Sarr has now revealed that he is a cut above the rest in training.

The Senegalese midfielder told Footy Culture: “But for me, my best in training is Cuti Romero.”

Spurs Web Opinion

For Sarr to name Romero ahead of the likes of James Maddison, Son Heung-min and Yves Bissouma is certainly a big statement and it shows just how highly the Argentine is rated by his teammates.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Pape Matar Sarr is very highly rated within the Tottenham squad, with his teammates now referring to him as ‘starboy’.

Ahead of the start of the new season, some Spurs fans were concerned about how Tottenham would cope without Rodrigo Bentancur.

The Uruguayan had been one of the club’s most consistent performers in the 12 months prior to his ACL injury and he was sorely missed by the Lilywhites during the final few months of last season.

However, Sarr has stepped up to the plate and made the position his own, so much so that some might even question whether Bentancur will walk back into the starting eleven when he is fully fit.

The 21-year-old faced one of the toughest tests of his career at the Emirates on Sunday and he passed with flying colours, giving the likes of Martin Odegaard and Fabio Vieira no time to breathe in the middle of the park.

Pape Matar Sarr is very popular at Tottenham

Gold said about the Senegal international in the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast: “Pape Matar Sarr was terrific against AC Milan.

“Antonio Conte went, well thank you for that, go and stand over there, and that was literally what he did. Whereas, [Ange] Postecoglou’s gone, no no, this kid’s going to be just a world-beater.

“Like I say, around the club they call him ‘Starboy’, that’s what the players call him because they believe he’s just going to be this phenomenal young player. I’m very excited about the way Postecoglou’s going with this team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Sarr does have some technical flaws, he more than makes up for it with his engine and his determination. The midfielder absolutely eats up ground and seems like he would be a nightmare to play against.

The Senegal international has established himself as a vital cog in Ange Postecoglou’s midfield, keeping the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp out of the starting eleven.

The 20-year-old delivered another tireless display against Sheffield United on Saturday, helping Spurs win the ball back on several occasions and intelligently recycling possession.

Porro is another man who has surprised many with the ease with which he has adapted to the inverted full-back role, nailing down the starting spot ahead of Emerson Royal.

The Spaniard was seen celebrating with Sarr on the pitch following the Lilywhites’ dramatic win on Saturday and he has now praised the youngster on X.

Spurs Web Opinion

The biggest compliment that I can pay to Sarr is that Bentancur is no longer assured a place in the starting eleven when he gets back fit. That is no ordinary feat considering how good the Uruguayan has been since arriving at Spurs.

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that he told the likes of Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr that they will not be judged on their early season performances, and has instead told them to enjoy their football.

While a lot has been said and written about the impressive start that James Maddison has made to his Tottenham career since his move from Leicester City and Yves Bissouma’s transformation under Postecoglou, one can argue that the story of Spurs’ season so far has been the performance of the youngsters in the side.

Sarr has shown maturity beyond his years in the middle of the park while Udogie and van de Ven have looked like they have both been playing in the Premier League for many years.

Postecoglou admitted that he and his coaching staff could have chosen to go safer at the start of the season by trusting experience instead of throwing the younger players into the deep end.

Ange Postecoglou puts faith in Spurs youngsters

The Australian expressed his delight at the way the likes of Sarr and Udogie have fully embraced the responsibility they have been given.

The 58-year-old told Football.London: “We started off the season with Destiny playing his first Premier League game. Micky van de Ven had had two training sessions, playing his first Premier League game, Vicario playing his first Premier League game.

“All starting in a back four, back five, but within that context, you give guys the platform, opportunity and hopefully belief that we’ll support them, and you get these outcomes, but it’s still a challenge to do that.

“I think with Destiny, Micky and Pape Sarr is probably in that boat, these 20-year-olds, 21-year-olds, and say to them look ‘You’re not going to be judged on your performances in these early games, not by me, so just go out there and play’.

“I think they’ve embraced that. They’ve enjoyed that freedom and belief that there was nothing that was going to happen out there that was going to say to me that they’re never going to be a player for this football club, because I was putting them out there, but for them it’s not easy, just putting them out there in the Premier League.

“It wasn’t just one I was putting in, it was three or four. We spoke about it as a coaching staff, for that first-team selection, it could have been easier to go safer. Absolutely, but we needed to change and we needed to challenge things. Guys like Destiny and Micky and these players who have not just gone in there and found their feet, they’ve gone in there and tried to smash it. That’s what I want.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One of the core tenets of Postecoglou’s coaching philosophy seems to be to completely remove the fear of failure from the players’ minds so that they can express themselves.

The approach is almost the polar opposite of the one employed by Conte, who demanded that his players make as few mistakes as possible, which led to many playing within themselves.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have turned down more than four different approaches for Pape Matar Sarr this summer.

Sarr showed plenty of promise when opportunities came his way last season under Antonio Conte, although his game time was quite limited during the Italian’s tenure.

The 20-year-old arguably delivered his best performance in a Tottenham shirt on Saturday in the club’s 2-0 win over Manchester United, with the youngster appearing to come of age in the middle of the park alongside Yves Bissouma and James Maddison.

The Senegal international, who got Spurs’ opening goal, received plenty of praise from Ange Postecolgou, who remarked that he had been impressed by the midfielder right from the day he arrived at the club (Football.London).

Spurs have rejected multiple Pape Matar Sarr offers

Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that Postecolgou rates Sarr as a ‘top talent’, which is why he blocked the player from leaving the club this summer.

The journalist added that the former Metz man has been the subject of ‘strong interest’ this season but Tottenham considered him to be ‘untouchable’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Of all the impressive signings that Paratici oversaw during his tenure, of which there are many, it can be argued that Sarr was the best.

The 20-year-old does not appear to have any real weaknesses in his game and in many respects, Postecoglou is the ideal coach for the youngster’s development, with the midfielder seeming to thrive due to the freedom afforded by the Australian.

Ange Postecolgou has waxed lyrical about Pape Matar Sarr on the back of the midfielder’s display against Manchester United, admitting that the youngster has impressed him right from the moment he arrived at the club.

Sarr was handed a starting place in the line up ahead of Oliver Skipp, and the 20-year-old produced a display full of energy and technical quality as fans have come to expect from him in his relatively short Spurs career so far.

The 20-year-old was one of Tottenham’s most effective counter-pressers and gave the likes of Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes no breathing space.

The former Metz man opened the scoring for the home side with his first goal for the club, dispatching a loose ball on the half-volley after Dejan Kulusevski’s defelected cross fell kindly to him in front of goal in the early moments of the second half.

Postecoglou spoke in glowing terms of the youngster following Spurs’ 2-0 win over Manchester United and praised the Senegalese for his ability both with and without the ball.

Ange Postecoglou praises Pape Matar Sarr

When asked about Sarr’s display, the Tottenham head coach told Football.London: “Yeah, brilliant. He’s been great from the moment I arrived. He’s got a great energy about him, but he’s got quality there too.

“He’s one of those midfielders who causes the opposition real problems because whether it’s him running with the ball or without the ball, he runs forward, he runs aggressively and he disrupts the opposition. He’s just got a great temperament for a young guy. So really pleased for him.”

Postecoglou has not been shy of trusting young players like Sarr and Desinty Udogie ahead of more experienced heads such as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Ben Davies.

When asked about his decision to leave some experienced players on the bench, he responded: “I like to think I know what I’m doing mate. Especially in the early stages, part of what I need to do at the moment is explore the squad and the individuals within it.

“It would be silly of me to stick with some sort of formula in terms of team line-up, because unless I expose some of these guys to this level and trying to play our football I won’t find out about them. So it would have been very easy not to make any changes.

“The guys who dropped out, Emerson and Skippy, didn’t do anything wrong last week. They put in great efforts but I wanted to see Pape and I wanted to see Pedro. There are others I want to see and I will use, without disrupting the cohesion of the team, but this early bit is an opportunity for me to see guys out there and give them a taste of it as well.

“That then feeds into their development. If they’re out there and they can see they can do it then it gives us more personnel to work with moving forward.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Fabio Paratici deserves a lot of credit for identifying Sarr and Destiny Udogie before they really exploded and hit the limelight. It seems like we might potentially have two superstars on our hands.

To get them both for a combined fee of around £30m is quite an unbelievable bit business.

Alasdair Gold has explained via Football.London that Ange Postecolgou has a decision to make on whether or not to loan out Pape Matar Sarr after taking a closer look at the midfielder during pre-season.

Sarr ended up playing 212 minutes across 11 appearances in the Premier League last season due to Tottenham’s injury crisis in midfield and the youngster showed plenty of promise.

Perhaps his best performance came away at the San Siro in the round of 16 stage of the Champions League, with the 20-year-old displaying maturity beyond his years alongside Oliver Skipp in the middle of the park.

The former Metz man is expected to link up with the Spurs squad next week, having started Senegal’s clashes against Benin and Brazil last month.

Pape Matar Sarr will have chance to prove himself

Gold suggests that Sarr’s versatility and his confidence on the ball could see him play a more prominent role under Ange Postecoglou this season.

The journalist raises the possibility that the Australian could also decide to send the youngster out on loan as his game time might be restricted once Rodrigo Bentancur returns to full fitness.

However, Gold also points out that with Postecoglou needing three central midfielders, it could open up more opportunities for game time for the likes of Sarr, which is why the 56-year-old has a big decision to make on whether or not to loan out the youngster.

Spurs Web Opinion

It would have made complete sense to keep Sarr had we qualified for the Europa Conference League or the Europa League as the 20-year-old would have benefited from learning to play specific roles in Postecoglou’s system.

However, I do not see him getting much game time next season as the likes of Bissouma, Bentancur and Skipp (and Hojbjerg’s potential replacement) are likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order.

So, the 20-year-old’s development would be best served by going out on loan.

A report from Italy claims Serie A side Salernitana are still looking to sign Tottenham Hotspur youngster Pape Matar Sarr, after failing to secure a move for the midfielder in January.

Sarr signed for Tottenham from French side Metz in the summer of 2021, but spent the following season on loan with his former club.

There was talk of Pape Matar Sarr going out on loan again last summer and in the January transfer window, with multiple clubs thought to be keen on the young Senegalese star.

Salernitana were among those interested in acquiring Sarr earlier this year (CalcioMercato).

However, Antonio Conte reportedly blocked the move as he wanted to keep Sarr in his squad (Sky Sport Italia – as relayed by TEAMtalk).

Despite this, Sarr has found opportunities in North London limited this year. He has made only 13 first team appearances this term, totaling just 443 minutes on the pitch (Transfermarkt).

It is unclear what the future holds for Sarr, and a lot is likely to depend on how the new manager at Tottenham feels about the young midfielder.

However, it seems Sarr will have no trouble finding a new club if necessary.

The latest report from Tutto Salernitana claims the Italian side are still very much interested in Sarr and could be back to make another attempt at signing him this summer.

While the transfer proposal in January may have failed, the player has “remained in the sights” of Salernitana.

However, it is thought they would face competition for his signature if he is made available for transfer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Much like Bryan Gil, Pape Sarr is a player I would love to see more of at Spurs and hopefully our next manager gives him a proper opportunity.

He’s shown a lot of promise and deserves to be given a run in the team.

Generation Foot academy president Mady Toure has revealed that Barcelona tried to snap up Pape Matar Sarr for a cut-price fee prior to the midfielder’s move to Metz.

Sarr has already made quite an impression in his first full season at Tottenham even though his opportunities have been limited on many occasions.

The youngster has demonstrated maturity beyond his years when he has been given the nod to start, including in his Champions League debut at the San Siro against AC Milan last month.

Many Spurs fans are understandably excited about what the future holds for Sarr and the youngster could still have an important role to play over the next couple of months, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma out for the rest of the campaign.

The 20-year-old caught the eye during his outing against AC Milan, putting in an accomplished display alongside Oliver Skipp despite the pair being relatively inexperienced in such a high profile game.

Sarr first made his name at Generation Foot back in Senegal before getting his move to Europe, and it has now emerged that Barca were keen on snapping up him.

The Senegalese club’s president told TFM (via Wiw Sport): “When (Barcelona) contacted us for Pape Matar Sarr, there was an offer of 5 billion francs (around £5 million). But I did not look at this sum. I refused.

“I said to myself that the development of the player must be respected. He eventually went to FC Metz. You have to have a roadmap for your young people, who have to do it step by step. It is important.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Sarr evidently has a very high ceiling and needs to be playing regularly over the next year or two to fulfil his potential.

I hope that Tottenham loan out the youngster (preferably to a Premier League club) in the summer rather than keeping him around as a squad player.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Pape Matar Sarr is currently suffering from a hip injury.

Reports over recent weeks have indicated that despite the midfielder attracting interest from clubs around Europe, Antonio Conte has decided not to loan him out this window (Sky Sport Italia via TEAMtalk).

Some Tottenham fans might have wondered whether Pape Matar Sarr’s absence from the matchday squads for the clash against Fulham last Monday and the FA Cup match against Preston North End was a sign that the Senegal international would leave on loan before this evening’s transfer deadline.

However, Gold has now revealed that the former Metz player missed those two matches due to a hip injury, and is expected to be back in action early next month.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Conte started Sarr ahead of Bissouma and Skipp in the North London derby, shows just how highly the Italian rates the 20-year-old.

However, I cannot help but feel that Tottenham may have missed an opportunity to loan the midfielder out to a Premier League club this month. That would have done his development a world of good and he would have returned to the club in the summer as close to a finished product.

However, he has played a prominent role since the Premier League’s restart, having grabbed the opportunities he has been given with both hands.

Antonio Conte gave the 20-year-old a big vote of confidence by handing him a start ahead of the more experienced Yves Bissouma in Tottenham’s clash against Arsenal two weeks ago.

Sky Sport Italia (as relayed by TEAMtalk) claimed earlier this month that on the back of Sarr’s recent displays, Conte has decided to hang on to the midfielder despite the fact that plenty of clubs were showing interest in signing the youngster on loan.

This claim has now been backed up by Moretto, who took to social media to reveal that Tottenham do not plan on loaning out the former Metz man this window.

The journalist stated that Espanyol have abandoned their chase of the Senegal international after Spurs’ stance became clear.

Spurs Web Opinion

Sarr’s rise over the last few weeks has seemingly impacted Tottenham’s transfer decisions this window in more ways than one. Not only has it raised the issue of non-homegrown numbers for the Champions League but I suspect it also stopped the club from pursuing another midfielder.

Although it has been well documented that a right wing-back and an attacker were Conte’s main priorities this window, I expected the club to test the waters for midfield reinforcements (potentially Weston McKennie or Frank Kessie), which Spurs have clearly decided against doing.

According to Sky Sport Italia (as relayed by TEAMtalk), Antonio Conte is set to keep Pape Matar Sarr at Tottenham Hotspur this month, despite the player attracting loan interest from abrosd.

After impressing off the bench in Tottenham’s 4-0 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last week, Sarr was handed his first start for Spurs in the FA Cup third-round clash against Portsmouth, and the midfielder passed the test with flying colours.

Multiple Italian publications (La Citta di Salerno and CalcioMercato) have reported over the last few weeks that Salernitana have contacted Spurs over the prospect of taking the 20-year-old on loan until the end of the season.

La Citta di Salerno (09/01/23 as translated by Sport Witness) claimed on Monday that the Serie A club were now awaiting news from the North London club regarding the Senegal international and that they were concerned that the Lilywhites might decide against loaning out the youngster in light of his recent displays.

Sky Italia have now suggested that Spurs have decided against loaning out Sarr at Conte’s request.

It is explained that the former Metz man has won the Tottenham head coach’s trust, which is why the Italian wants to give the midfielder more opportunities over the coming months.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is not surprising that Conte wants to hang on to Sarr, particularly given that Spurs do not seem to be in the market for a central midfielder during the current transfer window. If the 20-year-old is loaned out, a couple of injuries in midfield could leave us in a lot of trouble over the coming months, given that we are involved in three competitions.

Italian publication La Citta di Salerno (09/01/23 as translated by Sport Witness) have revealed that Salernitana are concerned that Antonio Conte could block a potential loan move for Pape Matar Sarr this month.

On the back of his impressive cameo off the bench against Crystal Palace last week, Sarr was given the nod to start by Conte in Tottenham’s FA Cup clash against Portsmouth on Saturday.

The midfielder was one of the most impressive players on show as he delivered a composed display in the middle of the park to help Spurs overcome the League One side.

Salernitana’s interest in signing Sarr on loan first came to light last week when CalcioMercato reported last week that the Serie A club had reached out to Spurs regarding a temporary deal for the midfielder.

The club’s sporting director Morgan De Sancti confirmed their interest in the 20-year-old last Friday, revealing that the Senegal international fits the profile of the midfielder the club are after (Fabrizio Romano).

However, La Citta di Salerno have now claimed that Conte could be an ‘obstacle’ in Salernitana’s pursuit of Sarr, with the Italian now expected to make a decision on whether to loan out the player.

The publication states that while Spurs were previously ‘opening up to a possible farewell on loan’, the former Metz man could now ‘continue his adventure’ in London.

The report adds that Salernitana are now awaiting news from the North London club regarding Sarr and have now identified alternative options to the Tottenham man.

Spurs Web Opinion

Until a week ago, Sarr and Gil looked certain to be loaned out this month but both players now look likely to remain at the club.

While one can understand why Conte would want to hang on to the pair in case he has to deal with another injury crisis, it is unlikely that either of them is going to get many minutes if the Italian’s main options are fit.

So, a loan move would likely be beneficial for both as they would get regular game time under their belt and return to the club in the summer as better players.

Salernitana’s sporting director Morgan De Sanctis has confirmed that Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr is exactly the kind of midfielder the Serie A club are looking to sign during the current transfer window.

Reports over recent weeks have indicated that Sarr is one of the players that Tottenham could loan in January (Football.London), with CalcioMercato being the first to report last week that Salernitana had reached out to Spurs regarding a temporary deal for the midfielder.

A couple of days ago, Tutto Salernitana backed up the Italian club’s interest in the 20-year-old and suggested that the youngster is fascinated by the idea of playing in Serie A.

Sarr has come off the bench for cameos in Tottenham’s last two games against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, with the former Metz man particularly impressing in his 25-minute spell at Selhurst Park on Wednesday. He also starred in the 1-0 FA Cup win against Portsmouth on Saturday.

Antonio Conte praised the midfielder after the Palace game and remarked that he does not want to loan out some of the young players at the club as they could come in handy over the coming months, with Spurs involved in three different competitions (Football.London).

It was unclear whether the Tottenham head coach was referring to Sarr, but Fabrizio Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that Salernitana continue to be in talks with the Lilywhites over a deal for the midfielder.

The journalist added that the final decision regarding his future is expected to come down to the Senegal international.

According to Romano, De Sanctis said regarding Salernitana’s pursuit of Sarr: “Sarr is the kind of player we need, he has the skills we want in that position.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham do not sign a central midfielder this summer, which appears likely to be the case, then I expect Conte to hang on to Sarr as a squad player.  If the North London club do manage to pull off a surprise signing like Franck Kessie, then it will not make much sense to keep Sarr at the club as the 20-year-old is hardly going to get any game time at all.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that half a dozen young players could leave Tottenham on loan during the January transfer window in his latest piece for Football.London.

Over the last few weeks, there has been plenty of speculation over Bryan Gil’s future, with the likes of Sevilla, Valencia Real Sociedad, Cadiz and Mallorca all thought to be interested in snapping up the winger on loan (Estadio Deportivo).

Meanwhile, Pape Matar Sarr, who is yet to see a single minute of action for Conte’s men, is also expected to be loaned out, with Sevilla (El Chiringuito TV via Sport Witness) and Serie A club Salernitana (Gazzetta dello Sport) credited with an interest in the international.

Gold has now revealed that the aforementioned duo could be loaned out along with Japhet Tanganga, who was given the nod to start against Brentford on Boxing Day ahead of Davinson Sanchez.

The journalist added that Djed Spence could also potentially complete a temporary move away from Spurs while academy youngsters Alfie Devine and Harvey White could follow suit since they both need first-team minutes under their belt.

Gil, Sarr, Devine and White look nailed on to leave the club on loan next month. However, I would not be surprised if Conte decides to hold on to Tanganga until the end of the season. Spence’s future will likely depend on whether the club are able to push through a deal for Pedro Porro.

The only competitive action that the 20-year-old has had this campaign has come in Premier League 2, while he also made a couple of substitute appearances for Senegal at the World Cup (Transfermarkt).

Reports over the last couple of months have indicated that Spurs are willing to loan Sarr out in January, with Antonio Conte thought to be keen on adding reinforcements in the middle of the park next month (Evening Standard).

El Chiringuito TV have now stated that Sevilla are ‘mulling over’ the idea of signing the Spurs midfielder on loan.

The report states that Jorge Sampaoli wishes to sign a central midfielder and that the La Liga club have ‘already had contacts’ with the North London club regarding the former Metz man.

Spurs Web Opinion

Sarr is certain to be loaned out in January as Conte clearly does not think he is ready to get minutes at Spurs. However, the club will need to be careful about who they loan the youngster out to as it is vital that he gets regular starts under his belt.

I actually would not be against loaning Sarr out to a Championship club for the second half of the season as he is likely to get plenty of minutes under his belt and get used to the demands of English football.

Mucho Deporte have revealed that Sevilla are eyeing a double deal for Tottenham duo Pape Matar Sarr and Bryan Gil in January.

Neither Sarr nor Gil have started a single game for Spurs so far this season, and The Evening Standard reported last month that the North London club are looking to loan out both players in January, with Antonio Conte allegedly wanting readymade replacements for the pair.

Sevilla’s interest in Gil came to light last week when Mucho Deporte reported that the Andalusian outfit have explored a move for the Spain international, even though he is not viewed by the club as a priority signing.

The same publication have now offered an update on the matter, stating that Sevilla are ‘working on the operation’ to sign the 21-year-old from Tottenham. It is alleged that Jorge Sampaoli’s men view the Spurs winger as a replacement for Isco, who is expected to depart the club.

The report reveals that Sarr is also on Sevilla’s radar, with the Senegal international thought to fit the profile of midfielder the club are after. The publication adds that the 20-year-old is valued by Tottenham at around €15m (£13m).

Spurs Web Opinion

It is not clear from this report whether Sevilla are exploring loan deals for Sarr and Gil or if they want to sign them permanently. The former is probably more likely as Spurs are unlikely to cash in on either player in January and I doubt if the La Liga club could afford the pair.

The youngster showed plenty of promise when Conte handed him opportunities during pre-season but it perhaps came as a surprise when Tottenham decided not to loan him out in the summer.

The midfielder has not played a single minute of senior football for the North London club so far, although he has made the matchday squad on a few occasions (Transfermarkt).

The Evening Standard reported last week that Spurs are expected to loan out the Senegal international in January, along with Japhet Tanganga and Bryan Gil, with Conte alleged to have asked for direct replacements to be brought in for all three players.

Aarons has now said that Sarr is mature for someone of his age and insisted that the 20-year-old is ready to get minutes at Tottenham.

The journalist told GiveMeSport about the midfielder: “He’s a very exciting player in terms of the progression he’s made at such a young age.

“It’s a shame that Tottenham haven’t given him a chance because he’s probably ready, I think. He’s been on the bench a few times this season, but he is a holding midfielder, which they have plenty of.”
