Free agent and former Tottenham Hotspur star, Andros Townsend, has joined Luton Town on a short-term contract until January.

Townsend came through the Spurs academy during a prosperous time for the North London club’s youth ranks, with the likes of Harry Kane, Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and more also making the step up.

In fact, there was a time when Townsend was one of the brightest sparks in the country, impressing for both Spurs and England from the right wing. He was even Tottenham’s penalty-taker over Kane.

Andros Townsend signs for Luton Town

Townsend played a total of 87 games for the Lilywhites, scoring nine goals and assisting another 13 (TransferMarkt) before moving to Newcastle United and then Crystal Palace where he spent the bulk of his Premier League career.

After a rather unsuccessful spell with Everton, Townsend became a free agent in 2023 and has now signed for Luton Town following a return from injury. Ironically, Spurs only played Luton a matter of days ago in the league, winning 1-0.

Spurs Web Opinion:

It really felt like a Sliding Doors moment for Townsend when he got injured on the eve of a major tournament for England. Had he gone and continued his fine form on the biggest stage, who knows where his career would be now.

Tony Cascarino has said that he cannot remember Son Heung-min delivering as poor a performance as he did against Luton Town last Saturday.

Tottenham should have been out of sight within the first 20 minutes at Kenilworth Road as they missed four gilt-edged chances to take the lead.

The home side somehow managed to hold on for the rest of the half and when Yves Bissouma got his marching orders just before half-time, Tottenham fans would have feared the worst.

However, this team once again demonstrated that they are made of sterner stuff than the Spurs sides of the past, defending resolutely and emerging with a hard-fought 1-0 win.

The goal came from an unlikely source in Micky van de Ven, who found the back of the net for the first time in a Tottenham shirt after some excellent play from James Maddison down the right.

Spurs still have even more room for improvement

Cascarino has pointed to the performances of Son and Richarlison as potential sources of concern for Postecoglou.

The pundit told talkSPORT (8/10 6:40 am): “The thing that stuck out for me yesterday was the determination of the team. If you think about this, they’ve lost Harry Kane. Richarlison they carried, they carrying him at the moment.

“He was off after 45 minutes yesterday and Son was really poor. So you’ve already got three forwards that I just mentioned and they’ve gone on to win a game. Fair play to [Ange] Postecoglou yesterday because he saw the danger, he reacted to it.

“I can’t remember Son playing [that badly], he was just not the Son we know he can be and he’s been brilliant at times this season.

“Richarlison, I don’t know what they do with Richarlison because it feels like he just hasn’t got a good game in him at the moment. He’s just not playing to the level that he would want as a manager.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Richarlison is struggling a bit for confidence at the moment and is snatching at shots as you would expect of a player who is desperate to score. I am hopeful that his luck will change as soon as he finds the back of the net a couple of times and gets his belief back.

Tottenham Hotspur managed to grind out a win away to Luton Town in the afternoon sunshine today, despite being down to ten men for much of the encounter.

Let’s take a look at the five things we learned from the match:

LUTON, ENGLAND – OCTOBER 07: Micky van de Ven of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates after scoring the team’s first goal during the Premier League match between Luton Town and Tottenham Hotspur at Kenilworth Road on October 07, 2023 in Luton, England. (Photo by Henry Browne/Getty Images)

Top of the League!

It may end up only being for a short while, but Tottenham Hotspur are top of the league! Nothing to really celebrate in October, but it is a sign of the progress Ange has managed to make in such a short space of time, at the very least.

Spurs Have Heart

Let down by Yves Bissouma, the Spurs lads showed some real heart today. Grabbing one goal against the run of play is one thing, but grinding out the defensive performance to earn a clean sheet is another. We have spoken so much about Ange-ball of late, but Spurs got to show the gritty side to them today too. The lads off the bench worked so hard for the team, and the likes of Romero and Micky put on a defending masterclass.

10 Minute Game

Forget about 90 minutes plus added time, Tottenham should have won the game inside ten minutes today. First, Dejan Kulusevski put a beautiful cross on a plate for Richarlison at the back post, only for the Brazilian to turn it wide. Two minutes later and Richarlison then failed to find the back of the net in a one-on-one. And finally, Pedro Porro got in on the act when he was played through, only to miss the target completely in his one-on-one. Classic Premier League, you miss your chances, you often pay for it in some way.

Anti-Ange-Ball

For the first ten minutes of the game, Spurs were in full flow. Luton Town made it easy for the Lilywhites, allowing creative players to turn on the ball and pick passes. But once they shut up shop a little more, Tottenham crumbled in the centre of the pitch. Ange-ball is all about breaking the lines and flicking balls around the corner to turn defence into attack. Porro, Udogie, Bissouma, and Sarr really struggled to get themselves facing goal and bursting through the middle of the pitch today. Players were not brave enough on the ball and there was way too much sideways passing. Strangely enough, the Lilywhites clicked back into gear in the second 45 when they were down to ten. Perhaps Ange really got into them at half-time.

Yves Bissouma banned

Bissouma will now sit out the match at home to Fulham next week. That was always likely to be the case because he was one yellow away from a match ban anyway. But the nature of the ban is the problem here. Diving on a yellow card against Luton Town is ridiculous. Cannot be defended at all and Yves really let the team and the fans down today. Alasdair Gold actually revealed that the red card supersedes the first yellow too, so Bissouma will still likely pick up another ban in a few weeks.

Despite being down to ten men for more than half the game, Spurs managed to grind out a 1-0 win away to Luton Town this afternoon in the Premier League.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Tottenham player ratings vs Luton Town

LUTON, ENGLAND – OCTOBER 07: Micky van de Ven of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates with teammate James Maddison after scoring the team’s first goal during the Premier League match between Luton Town and Tottenham Hotspur at Kenilworth Road on October 07, 2023 in Luton, England. (Photo by Henry Browne/Getty Images)

Guglielmo Vicario – 7 – Under a lot of pressure in the second half with Spurs down to ten men, but he stood firm and made some really important stops.

Pedro Porro – 7 – Way off it in the first half. Not as composed with the ball at his feet and struggled to break the lines. Gave the ball away a few times in dangerous areas. In the second half, he looked class. So confident on the ball in all areas of the pitch.

Cristian Romero – 8 – Had to defend under a lot of pressure in that second half. Not his most composed game in the world due to the last-ditch nature of the game, but he definitely saved a lot of goals. He loves that kind of on-the-edge, aggressive defending.

Micky Van de Ven – 9 – He was there exactly when Tottenham needed a spark, tapping home to put the away side ahead despite being down to ten. Also defended expertly against the pace of Luton’s wingers and the physicality of Morris too.

Destiny Udogie – 7 – Like Porro, Udogie struggled to find his place in the game in the first half, but looked incredible in the second 45 under a lot more pressure. Some of his breaks down the pitch really defined Tottenham’s attacking threat when down to ten men.

Yves Bissouma – 1 – Can’t give you any more than that when you dive outside the box on a yellow in a game like this. A moment of madness from Bissouma and he really let the team down.

Pape Matar Sarr – 7 – Struggled to get in the game too much today in the first half, but impressed a lot more towards the end of the game with his defensive work rate and pressing. The more pressure he was put under, the better he looked today.

James Maddison – 7.5 – He really is Tottenham’s talisman these days. If Spurs need a moment of magic, it so often comes from him. Skipped past his marker down the byline and pulled it back perfectly for Micky to tap home.

Dejan Kulusevski – 7 – Should have had an assist in the opening minutes when he put one on a plate for Richarlison. Got through a lot of work leading the line towards the end, without exactly getting into dangerous areas. Great effort.

Heung-min Son – 5 – Wasn’t really in the game beyond the first 15 minutes. Had a couple of half chances in and around the box, but was a real victim of Tottenham’s poor build-up play as the game went on.

Richarlison – 3 – Got himself in so many great areas, but didn’t have his shooting boots on. Spurs should have been two or three up inside 12 minutes and Richarlison missed two of those sitters. Hooked at half-time to plug the gap left by Bissouma.

Substitutes:

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 6.5 – Came on and really slowed/calmed things down for Spurs.

Emerson Royal – 6 – Solid on and off the ball as Spurs tried to shut up shop.

Oliver Skipp – 6 – So much desire from him to cover every blade of grass to get the job done.

Ben Davies – N/A

Alejo Veliz – N/A

Here’s how we rated the Tottenham Hotspur players following the opening forty-five minutes of action against Luton Town in today’s Premier League early kick-off against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Ange Postecoglou’s side head into the break currently level at 0-0 in a match in which Spurs could have been comfortably 4-0 ahead.

Guglielmo Vicario: With the nature of how the first half has gone, he has been a spectator for large portions of it. 6.

Pedro Porro: Should have had his name on the scoresheet but pulled his shot wide. 6.

Cristian Romero: A comfortable half from the World Cup winner who has not been overly troubled by the Luton forward line, showing his new composure when dealing with the physical nature of Morris and Adebayo. 6.

Micky van de Ven: Comfortable at the back, even had a chance on goal after a quarter of an hour which went high over the bar.  Has been impressive driving forward with the ball. 7.

Destiny Udogie: Called up to the Italian senior side earlier in the week.  Was thankful that there was a foul on Romero when Luton thought they had scored when he switched off for a split second, thinking the ball would go behind rather than come back off the post. 6.

Richarlison

Pape Matar Sarr: Did well to steal the ball and drive forward to create the chance for Kulusevski. 6.

Yves Bissouma: Booked and received a second yellow for a silly dive on the stroke of half time. 5.

James Maddison: Set up Richarlison for the Brazilian’s second opportunity to score with a neat through ball.  Has been causing Luton all sorts of problems and had half a chance to score just before the break.   7.

Dejan Kulusevski: Played a beautiful cross for the early Richarlison chance.  Has looked dangerous down the right with more than one good ball into the area.  Thought he had opened the scoring only to see Kaminski push the ball beyond the post. 7.

Heung-min Son: His through ball for Porro’s chance was inch-perfect.  Had his first sight of goal from a Maddison-headed knock-down but fired his shot over the bar. 6.

Richarlison: Had a brilliant chance to open the scoring in the opening two minutes but couldn’t wrap his foot around the ball in time from a couple of yards out.  Had another great opportunity to score minutes later but his effort was at the feet of the keeper.  He could have had a hat-trick  5.

The Spurs players and backroom staff including Ange Postecoglou have arrived at the Kenilworth Road ahead of this afternoon’s match against Luton Town.

Tottenham are looking to maintain their impressive start to the new Premier League campaign wiith five wins and two draws in their opening seven games and the only blot on Postecoglou’s record is the disappointing Carabao Cup exit at Fulham.

Can Spurs remain unbeaten?

Luton are yet to win a home match in the Premier League (D1, L2). Their most recent top-flight home victory was 2-0 against Aston Villa in April 1992, however, they do come into the match having secured their first three points of the campaign in last weekend’s 2-1 win at lowly Everton.

Postecoglou’s side could become the first Premier League team to score at least twice in their first eight games under a new manager.

Among the players spotted arriving at the stadium were Heung-min Son, Giovani Lo Celso and James Maddison.

Today, the Australian has named an unchanged Spurs starting eleven from the one which won against Liverpool last weekend.

Ange Postecoglou has named his Tottenham Hotspur side which will take to the field in this afternoon’s Premier League early kick-off against Luton Town.

Tottenham’s record of five wins and two draws in their opening seven games is exactly the same as at the same stage last season under Antonio Conte, however, many fans will certainly say that the whole mood and optimism under Ange Postecoglou feels like the club could finally be heading in the right decision, at least on the pitch.

The North Londoners maintained their unbeaten start to their top flight campaign last weekend with a dramatic victory against Liverpool in N17 which saw them take all three points deep into stoppage time to secure a 2-1 win.

Spurs team news vs Luton Town

Spurs are without Manor Solomon after the Israeli had to undergo surgery to repair a meniscus injury to his knee which he suffered in midweek with Postecoglou admitting he will be sidelined for a number of months.

The Australian told Football.London at yesterday’s pre-match press conference: “Manor Solomon unfortunately during training got a significant injury to his knee, he’ll miss some significant game time over the next few months.

“That’s disappointing because he was contributing for us already and growing into his role. With Ivan Perisic already down, it’s not ideal when you lose a player in that position.”

This is who takes to the field at Kenilworth Road this afternoon:

Spurs: Vicario, Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Udogie, Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison, Kulusevski, Richarlison, Son.

Subs: Forster, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Gil, Royal, Dier, Lo Celso, Davies, Veliz

Luton Town: Kaminski; Burke. Lockyer, Andersen; Brown, Mpanzu, Nakamba, Doughty; Adebayo, Ogbene; Morris.

Subs: Krul, Barkley, Berry, Woodrow, Kabore, Chong, Mengi, Giles, Johnson

Paul Merson believes that Tottenham might be in for a shock if they are expecting an easy game at Kenilworth Road, remarking that Luton Town will go direct and make it really difficult for the away side.

Spurs head into the game on Saturday high on confidence after picking up four points from their two last two matches against Arsenal and Liverpool.

While they were arguably the underdogs in those fixtures, they will now have to cope with the added pressure of being expected to take all three points on Saturday, particularly now that a lot of people consider Ange Postecoglou’s men to be one of the favourites to finish in the top four.

The Lilywhites have a whole host of injuries, with Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Rodrigo Bentacnur, Giovani Lo Celso and Brennan Johnson currently sidelined (The Athletic).

Tottenham could struggle against Luton Town

Merson pointed out that this is exactly the game where Tottenham sides of the past have come unstuck, but the pundit backed Postecoglou’s men to edge out Luton.

The Arsenal legend told Sportskeeda: “This is a massive game for both teams. I didn’t think Luton would beat Everton away from home, but they pulled it off. I thought they would kick on from there, but they’ve lost their game against Burnley.

“Over the years, Tottenham have dropped off after every run of good results. They are renowned for winning a series of games and then suffering defeats when no one expects them to. This is a huge game for them – if they win here, they could go to the top of the league.

“Luton don’t have the biggest pitch in the world but they do get forward to get the ball into the box. This is going to be a difficult game, but I’m backing Tottenham to come away with all three points.”

Prediction: Luton Town 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs Web Opinion

Early kick-offs on Saturday can often prove quite difficult, especially away from home. Luton come into this game in good spirits and we certainly cannot afford to take them lightly.

Postecoglou will demand that his players match their opponents for effort and intensity so that their quality can shine through.

Luton have struggled to get going in the top flight so far, but could prove to be a stubborn defence at home with Kenilworth Road rocking.

Spurs come into the match off the back of a draw away to Arsenal and a win at home to Liverpool, albeit one shrouded in VAR controversy.

Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will keep a clean sheet against Luton and emerge with an easy win from Kenilworth Road.

Tottenham head into the clash on Saturday as one of just two unbeaten sides across the Premier League, knowing that they will temporarily move into the top spot if they can get all three points.

However, the Lilywhites have a whole host of injuries heading into the game, with Manor Solomon joining the list of long-term absentees, which includes Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Rodrigo Bentacnur and Giovani Lo Celso, while Brennan Johnson also remains out of action for the time being (The Athletic).

Reports indicate that captain Son Heung-min will feature against Luton despite having some groin pain over the last couple of weeks (Lyall Thomas).

Lawro predicts a simple win for Tottenham vs Luton

Despite being down to the bare bones in attack, Lawrenson believes that Postecoglou’s men will not have much trouble overcoming the newly promoted side.

The pundit told Paddy Power: “Tottenham will just be glad to play this game and move on from last week and obviously it was a really good result against Liverpool!

“Luton were good value for money to beat Everton last weekend and that was by far and away their best performance of the season so far. Ange Postecoglou has definitely improved Spurs and everyone’s chipping in now that they’ve lost Harry Kane.”

Luton 0-2 Tottenham.

Spurs Web Opinion

Postecoglou is not likely to have too many attacking options to turn to from the bench, given the injuries. So, it is important that we impose ourselves on the game early and score a couple of goals in the first half to make things easier for ourselves.

Tottenham Hotspur pay a visit to Kenilworth Road this weekend in the Premier League as they look to continue their unbeaten start to the season under Ange Postecoglou.

Luton Town: Their Story

The Hatters had started to turn heads after the 2018/19 season after they had achieved back-to-back promotions, from League Two and League One. The Town started their first season back in the Championship since their dramatic fall from the top which started in 2006 and was made worse in 2008.

The 2008/09 season seemingly ripped Luton apart as they were deducted an initial 10 points for financial irregularities, then shortly after, the FA cut deeper wounds for Luton as they deducted them another 20 points; making it the most severe punishment to ever have been given. (FourFourTwo)

Despite, their constant setbacks, Luton arose from their ashes, flirting with promotion to the Premier League in 2022 with Nathan Jones, and then securing it with Rob Edwards in May 2023.

Their promotion was inspired by the club’s never-say-die attitude which has been ever-present since its re-emergence from the ashes. Luton have assumed a rebellious approach to the football league, flying through the leagues despite little financial muscle.

This attitude is symbolised by a flag that is hung in a corner of the famous Kenilworth Road simply stating ‘Luton Town – Betrayed by the FA’.

Now the club have reached the summit of English football, Luton have encountered a new form of resistance to them; the media. As much as the fairy tale story was covered widely when their return was complete, the club have certainly experienced a lot of doubters.

The most notable has been Garth Crooks whose comments were soon knocked back by manager Rob Edwards. Crooks claimed that he ‘can’t take them [Luton] seriously’, following it up by stating that the Hatters will be ‘down by Christmas’ (BBC).

Rob Edwards provided a reason for Crooks to be wrong instantly as his side impressively beat Everton away in a 2-1 win. Their victory was achieved due to their clinical nature from set-pieces, as both goals came from a corner and freekick respectively.

How will Luton Town set up?

As mentioned prior, set pieces are key to Luton’s game, Tottenham will have to nullify their potent nature from set plays if they want to minimise the chances of an upset.

Tottenham will have to expect a lot of competition in the air, as Carlton Morris wins around 6 aerial duels per 90 minutes (FBRef), Romero and Van De Ven are currently only winning 2.38 (FBRef) and 1.28 (FBRef), respectively, and therefore will need to adjust.

Those aerial chances are bound to come from not only Luton’s most creative player, but also the Premier League’s most creative, Alfie Doughty. The 23-year-old left-wing back is creating 3.7 chances per 90 minutes (Premier League) and with the pace of Chiedozie Ogbene also on the left wing, Pedro Porro will need to be at his best to prevent Luton’s threat from that side.

Luton are still seeking their first home victory in the Premier League and will be frustrated after a late goal from Jacob Larsen denied the Hatters a valuable draw against Burnley. Tottenham will have to expect a rampant atmosphere as Edwards promised ‘give them [the fans] a performance to sing about’.

The Hatters are likely to be most vulnerable when being attacked from their left and right side of defence. Amari’i Bell was pulled off after 21 minutes on Tuesday with an injury. Bell’s absence will cause Luton to field the inexperienced Teden Mengi as well as the deputising Reece Burke as their wide centre-halves.

With Postecoglou’s inverted full-back system, the Tottenham players should certainly be trying to find some joy through those gaps. There are certainly goals to be had in this game; Luton have conceded the joint-fourth most goals in the league. (FotMob)

Statement Win or Spursy Performance?

Although Tottenham have come flying out the blocks this season with 17 points from their first 7 games; Spurs fans will be anxious at the ‘Spursy’ like nature of this game.

Early kick-offs always tend to throw up some unusual results in the Premier League, just look at how Villa picked apart Brighton 6-1 at 12:30 last Saturday, but if Tottenham do play in the same vein they have so far this season; there should be no worries for The Lilywhites.

Tottenham should be expected to control the ball, even away, as they are 5th in the league for possession, averaging 60% per game, a stark contrast to Luton’s average of 37.7% (FBRef).

Saturday’s clash will likely be a test of Tottenham’s patience, persistence and dynamism as Luton aren’t likely to press Spurs frequently.

The Hatters have the least amount of tackles in the final third, 11, whereas Tottenham like to press high and have the joint 2nd highest final third tackles with 24 (FBRef).

Rob Edwards even joked in his press conference that ‘we’re playing a flat nine with Carlton upfront’.

Tottenham have so far not appeared entirely comfortable facing an opponent that likes to sit back and allow them to have the ball, for example, Sheffield United and the final 25 minutes of last weekend’s battle against Liverpool.

At times in those games Spurs looked dumbfounded and lost in possession, struggling to find a way to unpick the tight lock in which both Sheffield United and Liverpool had constructed.

There’s obviously evidence that Spurs can break those low blocks down with Postecoglou’s men walking away with late victories in both games, but both of those fixtures were at home and the story may be different in the intimating setting of Kenilworth Road.

Opposition manager Rob Edwards has vowed to give Tottenham ‘the full Kenny experience’, an early goal could be key for Spurs.

Team News

Luton:

As expected, Luton manager, Rob Edwards confirmed in his press conference that The Town ‘will be without Amari’i Bell’ and he will ‘be assessed on Friday to see the extent of the injury’.

Luton have former Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley back as Edwards’ explained ‘he’s fit, he’s been training, he’s part of the squad and it’s good to have him back on the grass’.

An interesting story emerging is that Andros Townsend, former Tottenham winger, is training with Luton; but not expected to be near the squad against Tottenham.

The Luton manager said ‘We’re having a look at him, and he’s having a look at us’, Andros will play on Friday night for Luton’s U-21’s side against Leeds. (Luton Official)

Tottenham:

Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to the media ahead of the short trip to Luton, the focus was inevitably upon Spurs’ star players, Son and Maddison. What the Australian had to say would be music to Spurs fans’ ears.

Despite rumours of Son not training this week after he was brought off due to a groin issue, which he was seen to be wincing with as he was taken off against Liverpool, Ange revealed simply, ‘Sonny is fine’.

The manager was then asked if Maddison was being ‘wrapped in cotton wool’, to which Postecoglou denied stating ‘No cotton wool here’ and that ‘Maddison is fine, he’s trained in every session this week’. (Football.London)

Two other players also re-joined in training with the squad and will therefore be in contention of playing, those two are Bryan Gil and Giovanni Lo Celso as Postecoglou states ‘Gio and Bryan both trained’. Whilst two players have returned, two are out: Manor Solomon and Brennan Johnson.

The club stated that ‘Manor Solomon suffered a meniscus injury to his right knee in training this week’ and that he ‘has undergone surgery’, the Israeli international is expected to be out for 2-3 months. (Spurs Official)

Luckily, Johnson’s injury is expected to be shorter-term, with Postecoglou stating ‘Johnson is close but not quite there yet. With the international break, he’ll be able to recover’.

This will obviously keep the door ajar for the young Jamie Donley who was named in the first team squad for the first time last weekend, Ange confirmed that ‘I’ve been really pleased with Jamie [Donley] and Alfie [Dorrington] though, they’ve been working well’. (Spurs Official)

Expected line-up:

Luton: Kaminski, Kabore, Mengi, Lockyer, Burke, Doughty, Mpanzu, Nakamba, Brown, Ogbene, Morris. (3-4-3)

Edwards is likely to be unchanged from Tuesday’s defeat to Burnley, apart from Reece Burke who can be expected to come in for the injured Bell.

Tottenham: Vicario, Porro, Romero, Van De Ven, Udogie, Bissouma, Sarr, Maddison, Kulusevski, Richarlison, Son. (4-3-3)

With Johnson and Solomon both out injured as well as his recent fine form, it can be expected that Richarlison will hold his place in the team, likely on the left of Tottenham’s forward three.

Ange Postecoglou has provided a team news update ahead of tomorrow’s match against Luton Town during this afternoon’s press conference at Hotspur Way.

Tottenham continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign in dramatic fashion last weekend when they secured a 2-1 injury time victory against Liverpool in a fixture which has since been dominated by the VAR decision to rule out Luis Diaz’s goal for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The result sees Tottenham head into the weekend one point behind league leaders and current champions Manchester City, while Premier League newcomers Luton recorded their first win since returning to the top flight at Everton on Saturday.

Spurs injury update vs Luton Town

Tottenham received a further injury blow this week after it was confirmed that summer signing Manor Solomon suffered a meniscus injury to his right knee in training and has since undergone surgery.

Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs squad ahead of the clash against Rob Edwards’ side with the South Korean having trained this week.

The big boost for Tottenham is the news that Heung-min is available for the match at Kenilworth Road, however, Brennan Johnson continues to be sidelined with the hamstring issue he suffered at Arsenal.

Postecoglou told the official Spurs site: “I guess the main one is Manor Solomon who picked up an injury during the week unfortunately and will put him out for a little while, which is disappointing for him, disappointing for us.

“He has already contributed significantly this year and was growing into the role we want him to play.

“Brennan [Johnson] will still be out for this weekend but hopefully he should be okay after the international break and then everyone else is okay.”

Ange also provided an update on Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon, Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso.

He added: “Ryan and Rodrigo are still well off (in terms of their respective returns to action),” he confirmed. “But Bryan and Gio have trained this week, which is good, so there’s a possibility they will be involved in the game.”

The Athletic have revealed that Bryan Gil is expected to be named on the bench for Tottenham’s clash against Luton Town on Saturday.

The injury list has grown considerably for Spurs over the last week, with the likes of Rodgiro Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso being joined recently on the treatment table by Ivan Perisic, Brennan Johnson and Manor Solomon.

The Athletic have now backed up what we have already heard from other sources about Johnson’s injury, explaining that the winger’s issue is not as serious as some others’.

They claim that the club are hopeful that the 22-year-old will be back for the clash against Fulham on October 23.

Bryan Gil expected to return to Spurs match squad

The outlet also provides some positive news on Gil, stating that the Spaniard is expected to be part of the matchday squad at Kenilworth Road.

The winger has been out with a groin injury since the start of pre-season but with the attackers currently missing for Tottenham, it looks like the former Sevilla man could be in line for his first appearance of the season on Saturday.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Gil is not fit enough to make the bench, Postecoglou would have to turn to youngsters like Alejo Veliz and Jamie Donley on the bench. With neither Maddison nor Son now seemingly 100 per cent, we are now dangerously short of attacking options at the moment.

Tottenham Hotspur face a different kind of test this weekend in the Premier League as they travel to Luton Town, following a draw and a win against Arsenal and Liverpool respectively.

We believe that Guglielmo Vicario will continue between the sticks for the Lilywhites, and will hope to carry on his superb start to Premier League life.

The back four will remain unchanged once again, with Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro playing as inverted full-backs, while Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven hold down the fort.

In midfield, Yves Bissouma risks picking up a one-match ban by starting in the pivot role, while Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison continue on either side of him. The latter passes a late fitness check to start again this week.

Up front, Heung-min Son is also passed fit, but is unlikely to play more than 70 minutes again for the Lilywhites. The South Korean starts in the number 9 role, with Richarlison out wide left and Dejan Kulusevski wide right.

Tottenham Hotspur will look to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign with a visit to newly promoted Luton Town this weekend. Here, we provide all the details of when, where, and how to watch the game.

Even the most optimistic Tottenham fan could not have predicted the incredible start that Ange Postecoglou has enjoyed since taking over at the club this summer.

The Spurs players have very quickly adopted the attacking and exciting style of football that Postecoglou promised, and are reaping the rewards.

The Lilywhites currently sit in second place in the Premier League, and are one of only two sides to maintain an unbeaten record at the start of the season.

In contrast, newly promoted Luton Town have just one win this season and find themselves just outside the relegation zone on goal difference only.

When and where is the Luton vs Tottenham game?

Luton will host Tottenham Hotspur at Kenilworth Road on Saturday October 7 in the lunchtime kick-off. The game will commence at 12:30 BST.

How to watch Luton vs Tottenham

Subscribers to TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport) will be able to watch the Luton vs Tottenham game as part of their package with the service. Live coverage of the fixture will begin at 11:00 BST with TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate having all the build-up to the big game.

Luton vs Tottenham team news

Tottenham have a fair few injuries to deal with ahead of this weekend, and will be without the likes of Brennan Johnson and Manor Solomon for the fixture. The attacking duo have both been ruled out of the game, but the good news is, Heung-min Son and James Maddison will be fit and ready for selection.

Meanwhile, the long-term injuries to Ivan Perisic, Bryan Gil, Ryan Sessegnon, and Rodrigo Bentancur will unsurprisingly keep them out of action for the Luton game.

For the hosts, Reece Burke is expected to be available for selection after recovering from a groin problem, and captain Tom Lockyer appears to be all good to continue after an eye injury. The Hatters will not be able to count on new signing Ross Barkley, however, who remains unfit.

The Spurs Web prediction

Based on our performances and results so far this season, you would have to say we are the favourites for this one. No game in the Premier League is an easy one, and Luton have shown they can be dangerous, particularly with Carlton Morris up top. But, if we play the way we have been, we should win this fairly comfortably. I’m going to go for a 3-0 win to Spurs.

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has revealed that Son Heung-min is expected to feature against Luton Town on Saturday despite his injury issue.

Over the last 24 hours, Tottenham have been hit with a couple of considerable injury blows.

It has emerged that Brennan Johnson, who missed the clash against Liverpool last week, is not expected to play a part against Luton and has also not been included in the Wales squad for the upcoming international fixtures (The Athletic).

Spurs will also be without another attacking player for the foreseeable future as Manor Solomon picked up an injury in training, which is expected to keep him out of action for two to three months (Raz Amir).

That means that Tottenham’s injury list suddenly seems quite substantial, with Rodrigo Bentancr, Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic already on the treatment table.

Heung-min Son needs to be monitored at Tottenham

There were also some injury concerns about Son ahead of the clash against Liverpool and Ange Postecoglou admitted after the game that the South Korean’s injury was the main reason why he came off in the 69th minute ( Football.London).

Thomas has now taken to social media to explain that while Son’s ongoing issues are being monitored by the club, the Spurs captain is expected to feature at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Solomon, Perisic and Johnson already out of action, Postecoglou is suddenly down to the bare bones in attack and could not afford to lose Son. So, the Australian might not want to risk playing the 31-year-old if he is not fully fit.

Tottenham Hotspur will have to make do without Brennan Johnson for their trip to Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon, as the 22-year-old has been ruled out of the game against Luton Town.

In a deadline day move, Spurs spent £47.5m on Nottingham Forest hero Brennan Johnson in an attempt to bolster Ange Postecoglous front line.

Postecoglou wasted no time in throwing the young Welshman into his team, either. Despite competition from the likes of Richarlison and Manor Solomon, Johnson was given the nod to start the North London derby last month after a lively cameo appearance against Sheffield United.

Johnson lasted just over an hour of the game against Arsenal, however, before being taken off due to a hamstring issue.

The winger missed the win over Liverpool last weekend entirely, but Spurs fans will be keen to see more of their latest acquisition as soon as possible.

Brennan Johnson ruled out of the Luton game

However, they may have to wait a little longer, sadly. According to the latest from The Athletic, Johnson will not be available for selection for the game against Luton Town on Saturday.

It had been touch and go as to whether Johnson would be fit for the game, but it has now been confirmed that the hamstring concern will rule him out of the visit to the newly promoted side.

There are no details regarding when exactly Johnson will be back, but it appears likely that we will have to wait until after the international break to see the attacker back in action.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s a real shame that Johnson has had this setback, and especially that he is missing this Luton game as he will have fancied his chances of getting off the mark there. Hopefully, he can recover for the Fulham game at the end of the month.

Calciomeracto.it have claimed that Everton and Luton Town have now both presented offers to sign Japhet Tanganga from Tottenham Hotspur.

On Tuesday night, Gianluca Di Marzio had claimed that Torino had entered the race to sign Tanganga before Friday evening’s transfer deadline.

The journalist stated that the Serie A club were looking for a replacement for Atalanta-bound centre-back Alessandro Buongiorno and had settled on the Spurs player.

It was alleged that they had opened talks with the North London club regarding a loan deal for the 24-year-old with an option to make the deal permanent next summer.

However, Charlie Eccleshare has since revealed that the move has hit a dead end, although he insisted Tanganga has other options to choose from.

Race for Japhet Tanganga in the Premier League

Calciomercato.it reveal that the Tottenham academy graduate has offers on the table from Premier League duo, Everton and Luton, and also one from Ligue 1 giants, Lyon.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be surprised if Torino are the only Italian club that show interest in a loan deal for Tanganga in the final two days of the transfer window. The centre-back has the attributes to thrive in Serie A and has an Italian agent in Roberto De Fanti, who would be offering him around to several clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga is attracting interest from fellow Premier League side Everton, according to Inter Live.

The academy graduate is expected to be one of a handful of Tottenham players to head out of the door prior to the summer transfer window closing as Ange Postecoglou continues to revamp his squad (The Sun).

After making a bright start to his senior Spurs career with an impressive Premier League debut against Liverpool in January 2020 while Jose Mourinho was still in charge, but struggled to hold down a regular place under Antonio Conte.

The central defender was left out of Postecoglou’s match day squad for both of the opening Premier League fixtures against Brentford and Manchester United with the Australian instead preferring to utilise Davinson Sanchez as cover from the bench.

Everton keen on Japhet Tanganga

The report claims that Premier League newcomers Luton Town are leading the race to land the former England Under-21 international as they push to take him on loan with an option to make the deal permanent.

Inter Milan have also considered making a move for the 24-year-old as they look to bolster their defensive options, while Everton have also made moves for his signature.

Tanganga is under contract in North London until the summer of 2025 and now looks to be set to kick-start his career away from the club where he progressed through the ranks as a youngster (transfermarkt).

A lack of regular first-team football has not helped Tanganga’s cause and has mostly been used as emergency cover in recent times.  He struggles to perform at a high level without a regular run of gams under his belt and instead, a move to Everton would be a sensible switch for him given their poor start to the new campaign.

The Daily Express have revealed that Luton Town and Inter Milan could be set for a battle to sign Japhet Tanganga before the transfer deadline.

Ange Postecoglou confirmed in his press conference on Friday that Tottenham are prioritising trimming their squad before they make further additions (Football.London), with Tanganga one of a whole flurry of players expected to leave the club over the next two weeks (Football Insider).

It was reported by Gianluca Di Marzio a couple of days ago that Inter had identified the 25-year-old as one of several potential options to reinforce their backline.

Luton Town also keen on Spurs’ Japhet Tanganga

The Express have now also backed up Inter’s interest in the Tottenham man and they reveal that Luton have emerged as the Serie A side’s main competitor for the player’s signature.

It is explained that both the Italian side and the newly promoted Premier League outfit want to sign Tanganga on a season-long loan deal.

The publication adds that the Spurs academy graduate’s preference is to head to the San Siro, which is why he is now waiting to see if Inter substantiate their interest.

Tanganga has just two years left in his contract. So, Tottenham would ideally want to sell him rather than to loan him out. However, given that the North London club urgently need to offload several players, they would likely consider loaning out the 25-year-old defender with an option to buy.
