Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Ryan Sessegnon is working as hard as he can to get back to full fitness at Hotspur Way, following his latest Tottenham injury.

Ever since the former Fulham man was signed by Spurs in 2019, he has been riddled with frustrating knocks and long-term injuries in North London, making it near impossible to build up a positive run of form.

When Ange Postecoglou was hired in the summer, Sessegnon would surely have wanted to impress the new manager in pre-season to assess his chances for the campaign ahead.

Unfortunately, yet another long-term injury means the left-back is still yet to kick a ball for Postecoglou, in training or in a game situation.

Sessegnon is working hard for Tottenham return

The England U21 international remains one of Tottenham’s long-term absentees, but Postecoglou insists that Sessegnon is working hard to get back to the main group.

Postecoglou said (Football London): “Yeah it’s tough for him, it’s hard. When people ask me about being motivated, look at players like Ryan who have done nothing wrong but are working their backside off every day to try to get back.

“If you need motivation as footballers, there’s plenty of it around. You may not be playing or playing as much as you want but you’re still in a good space where you can at least afford yourself the opportunity to play whereas guys like Ryan have got to work hard to get back to the group.

“He’s got a lot of support here, the medical team and sports science staff work hard with him and he’s still part of the team on a daily basis so we’ve just got to get him back to a space where he’s physically able to participate again.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I really think that Ryan Sessegnon needs a fresh start. I wonder whether a move to another league could give his career the boost it needs. With his consistent injury problems, perhaps jumping right back into the Premier League would be too much to ask of his body.

Former Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic had no hesitation in picking Ryan Sessegnon when asked which one of his former players he would love to work with again.

Sessegnon was quite highly rated when he arrived at Tottenham in a £25m deal from the Cottagers back in 2019.

However, a combination of managerial changes at Spurs and his injury issues have meant that the wide-man has struggled to live up to his potential in North London.

The 23-year-old might have been hoping to catch Ange Postecoglou’s eye in the summer but his hopes of doing so were ended when he picked up another hamstring injury at the start of pre-season.

The former England Under-21 international is expected to be introduced into training over the next few weeks ahead of a potential comeback in November (The Standard).

Ryan Sessegnon still has admirers in the game

It remains to be seen whether Sessegnon will have a future at Spurs under Postecoglou but Jokanovic would certainly love the opportunity to work with the youngster again.

When asked which one of his former Fulham players he would pick if he could only have one, the Serbian told The Fulham Fix Podcast: “Well there’s a lot of players who made a lot of important things for the team and my team.

“Just one is impossible, but if it was just one it would be Ryan Sessegnon, because he was younger than the other people. Tom Cairney did a fantastic job, Aluko was fantastic for the team, Kev, Johansen.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Sessegnon as a good fit for the inverted full-back role under Postecoglou. While the 23-year-old undoubtedly has the energy to play with the kind of intensity the Australian wants, he lacks the technical quality to receive the ball centrally on the half-turn.

However, it is worth remembering that most fans also had doubts about Porro’s suitability for the role but he has adapted brilliantly. So, one cannot rule out Sessegnon from doing the same.

The Standard have revealed the status of some of Tottenham’s injured stars as the club are set to resume their Premier League campaign against Fulham on Monday.

Brennan Johnson has been out with a hamstring problem since the North London derby, with the pacy winger missing the wins over Liverpool and Luton Town.

The versatile attacker was not part of the Wales squad during the international break but The  Standard reveals that there is some hope of the 22-year-old being fit for the clash against the Cottagers.

However, the report explains that there is still some doubt over Johnson’s involvement and he is not guaranteed to feature on Monday.

Rodrigo Bentancur should be back in a month

There is some good news regarding Rodrigo Bentancur, who continues to step up his recovery and looks on course to return to action in November,

The outlet reveals that another long-term absentee, Ryan Sessegnon, could also be back in action next month, with the left-back set to be gradually introduced to the squad over the coming weeks.

Manor Solomon is not expected to be fit until the end of the year while Ivan Perisic remains out with an ACL injury.

Spurs Web Opinion

It appears like all of Tottenham’s international stars have come through unscathed through this round of fixtures but we cannot be sure about that until they all report back to Hotspur Way.

The one advantage this time around is the fact that we do not play until Monday, which should give those players a couple of extra days to recover.

A new report on the injury status of key first-team players at Tottenham Hotspur has shed some light on when we can expect the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Brennan Johnson, and Manor Solomon back in action.

Things are going pretty well for Tottenham right now. With six wins and two draws from the opening eight games of this campaign, the Lilywhites head into the international break at the top of the Premier League.

At present, Spurs are thriving thanks to the attacking talent of Heung-min Son and James Maddison, while Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are forming a solid partnership in defence.

However, there is always the fear that an injury to any of these key players could derail the squad’s momentum.

Indeed, Spurs are already having to deal with a number of long-term injuries to a handful of first-team players which has left the squad looking a little thin.

When will the injured Spurs players be back?

A piece in the Evening Standard offers an insight into when these injured players will be back to fitness and available for selection.

The one big injury still carrying over from last season is the ACL issue for Rodrigo Bentancur. Fans can’t wait to see the Uruguay international doing his thing under Ange Postecoglou, but the club are not rushing him and his return date is still scheduled for November of this year.

There is good news on Brennan Johnson, however. The new signing is out with a hamstring injury at the moment and will miss international duty with Wales, but he is almost certain to return on October 23, for the game against Fulham.

Fellow new signing, Manor Solomon, suffered a knee injury recently and has undergone surgery. There is currently “no exact timeframe” on his recovery, but he is “unlikely to play a major role” before the end of 2023, with a December return predicted.

If you thought that was bad, spare a thought for Ivan Perisic. With a complex ACL injury, it is suspected the Croatian may have “potentially played his final game for the club,” with a return to fitness not expected until summer 2024, when his contract expires.

Similarly to Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon has been out of action since February, and is expected to return next month. He has been taking part in individual training sessions, but any involvement in wider first-team sessions is “not imminent.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Once we get Brennan Johnson back, this injury list will feel a lot more manageable, and then hopefully there won’t be too long to wait until Bentancur and Sessegnon return. We just have to pray we don’t get any more injuries in the meantime.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Bryan Gil is now available for selection for the first time this season after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Gil has been out since the start of pre-season but Gold stated that the winger is expected to be available for selection immediately after stepping up his recovery.

The journalist confirmed what had been reported already about James Maddison, stating that Spurs are confident he will be fit to play against Liverpool.

He also added that Brennan Johnson has been training on the grass this week after coming off with a tight hamstring against Arsenal, with the 22-year-old said to have been closely monitored by the club this week.

Tottenham are trying to get their players back soon

Gold explains that Rodrigo Bentancur has now been ‘gradually increasing’ his involvement in first-team training sessions and hopes to be back in action before November.

He also provided some positive news on Ryan Sessegnon’s injury, revealing that the 23-year-old has now resumed some light training following his hamstring surgery and could be back in action in a ‘few weeks’.

However, Gold does not provide much clarity on Giovani Lo Celso’s recovery, simply stating that the Argentine is hoping to be involved ‘sooner rather than later’.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like Maddison is expected to start against Liverpool tomorrow while Gil might make the bench for the first time this season.

I would be surprised if Postecoglou risks Johnson, particularly given that he has Solomon at his disposal. The Israeli international might quite enjoy coming up against Trent Alexander-Arnold in one vs one situations.

Ryan Sessegnon has taken a significant step in his return from injury by beginning light training at Hotspur Way this week.

Since joining Tottenham in 2019, Ryan Sessegnon has managed just 56 appearances for the club (Transfermakrt).

Admittedly, some of that time was spent on loan at German side Hoffenheim, but Sessegnon’s lack of action has largely been down to poor form and a slew of injuries.

Sessegnon has always struggled with injuries, and has been out of action since February of this year with a hamstring issue.

At present, the left-back position at Tottenham is not a problem at all, with new boy Destiny Udogie proving to be the perfect fit for Ange Postecoglous system.

However, with an injury to Ivan Perisic last week which could keep him out for up to six months, cover is likely to be needed in that position sooner rather than later.

Sessegnon is on his way back from injury at Spurs

That cover is on its way, it seems, as the Daily Mail report Sessegnon has begun light training as he continues his recovery.

It is thought this signals a “major fitness boost” for Spurs as Sessegnon starts a programme of running on grass, marking a “significant step on his road to recovery.”

While the left-sided player is “still a number of weeks” out from taking part in more active training sessions with his teammates, he is thought to be “on schedule.” Apparently, the club are taking a “cautious approach” to Sessegnon’s rehabilitation.

Sessegnon is expected to be a “vital part” of Postecoglou’s team and there is hope the 23-year-old can put his injury issues behind him.

Spurs Web Opinion

I will be very curious to see how Sessegnon fits into this Spurs squad. He’s a player I would have expected might not have a future at the club, but there’s a chance Postecoglou may be able to get a tune out of him.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur were planning on offloading Ryan Sessegnon this summer before he picked up an injury, which is why a January exit is likely for the former Fulham man.

Injuries have prevented Sessegnon from fulfilling his potential at Tottenham, with the youngster having a number of spells on the sidelines since making the switch to the club back in 2019.

The 23-year-old might have been hoping to impress Ange Postecoglou in pre-season but his hopes were dashed when he picked up another hamstring injury at the start of July and subsequently had to undergo surgery.

Ryan Sessegnon

The Daily Mail reported a couple of months ago that Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Fulham all had their eyes on the left-back during the summer but their pursuits of the player ended following his injury.

The publication suggested that Postecoglou was yet to make a final decision on Sessegnon’s future at the time and was hoping to do so after assessing him in pre-season, which he ultimately did not get a chance to do.

Gold has now said that Tottenham would have allowed the full-back to leave in the summer if he had not suffered the injury.

Ryan Sessegnon expected to leave Spurs in January

The journalist revealed on a Q&A on Football.London: “The club were willing to allow Sessegnon to leave in the summer, whether that was on loan or permanently, but his need for surgery scuppered that.

“Everyone is being cautious with his recovery and not rushing it because there is real hope that this operation will be the one that makes the chances of more hamstring injuries reduce enormously.

“Nobody is going to rush this process for a talented young player who has had such a nightmare with his hamstring issues.

“Whether he gets minutes when he returns is another thing with Udogie and Davies there and so few fixtures. I would imagine a January move is more likely unless he profits from others’ injuries.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Sessegnon is evidently not a good fit for Postecoglou’s system. The 23-year-old is simply not good enough on the ball to operate as an inverted-full back.

However, I expect Tottenham to loan him out in January rather than sell him as the club will feel that the youngster’s market value will increase if he can impress out on loan.

The Daily Mail have revealed that Ange Postecoglou has not yet made a decision on whether Ryan Sessegnon will be part of his plans.

It was announced on Tuesday that Sessegnon successfully had surgery on a hamstring injury that he had picked up during pre-season.

Alasdair Gold explained that the 23-year-old had been doing everything to avoid going under the knife but it eventually proved necessary.

Hopes of a Sessegnon transfer have been ended

The Mail have now explained that the hamstring injury has ‘dashed the hopes’ of a number of Premier League clubs who were vying for Sessegnon’s signature this summer.

The report claims that Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Fulham all had their eyes on the left-back but their pursuits of the player have now ended as he is now expected to be sidelined until after the transfer window shuts.

It is revealed that Sessegnon also has admirers around Europe, including Marseille and Benfica, and that Postecolgou is yet to decide if the defender has a future at the club.

This latest news is said to have come as a blow to the Australian, who was hoping to evaluate the former Fulham man over the course of pre-season.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Sessegnon as a good fit for the inverted full-back role. The likelihood is that Postecoglou would have wanted to offload the 23-year-old, and let Ben Davies compete with Destiny Udogie for the left-back slot next season.

Ryan Sessegnon has admitted that he is devastated to pick up yet another hamstring injury and thanked the fans for their kind messages over the last 24 hours.

Injuries have prevented Sessegnon from fulfilling his potential at Tottenham, with the youngster spending a number of spells on the sidelines since making the switch to the club back in 2019.

Last season was no different, with the 23-year-old missing the final 19 matches of the season after picking up a hamstring injury at the start of February while Antonio Conte was still in charge of Tottenham.

The former Fulham man would have been hoping to hit the ground running in pre-season and impress Ange Postecoglou but that was not to be after Spurs confirmed on Tuesday that the left-sided player had undergone surgery on a hamstring injury which he sustained during training earlier this week.

Sessegnon admits he’s devastated with hamstring injury

Alasdair Gold explained yesterday that Sessesgnon had been doing everything to avoid going under the knife but eventually had no choice but to do so.

The left wing-back has now taken to social media to insist that despite his most recent setback, he remains motivated to work his way back to fitness and prove himself.

Sessegnon posted on his Instagram story: “Devastated & not really sure what to say right now, but I wanted to come on here & say thank you for all the kind messages I’ve received.

“Hopefully this provides a light at the end of the tunnel.  I feel very hungry & motivated to return stronger than ever & be back to doing what I do best, for you guys.

“Thank you, Sess.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Whatever you may think of Sessegnon as a player, you cannot help but feel heartbroken for the 23-year-old on a human level.  His body has repeatedly let him down and robbed him of any chance to build momentum over the course of his Spurs career.

The Evening Standard have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have now put eight of their first-team players in the shop window.

As confirmed by other outlets over recent weeks, the report states that Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are expected to lead the mass exodus from Spurs this summer.

(Photo by Tottenham Hotspur FC/Tottenham Hotspur FC via Getty Images)

Lloris is thought to want a new challenge after eleven years at the club while Perisic is said to be on the radar of a whole host of clubs across the continent.

It is claimed both the Frenchman and Croat, who have one year left on their deals, could seek compensation from Spurs to leave this summer.

Hojbjerg is also said to be on the radars of several European clubs, including Atletico Madrid, with the Dane wanting to explore other opportunities after three years at N17.

Tottenham want to make a big profit on Hojbjerg

It is alleged that the Lilywhites will demand a significantly higher fee for the 27-year-old than the £15m they paid to sign him from Southampton three years ago.

In addition to these players, Ange Postecoglou’s men are also reportedly listening to offers for Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon, Ryan Sessegnon, Sergio Reguilon and Giovani Lo Celso.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite interesting to note that the names of Japhet Tanganga and Tanguy Ndombele are not part of this list, which suggests that Postecoglou is perhaps willing to give both players a chance to impress during pre-season and prove that they can be part of his plans.

It has been suggested that Ryan Sessegnon may not have a future at Tottenham. He has been with the Lilywhites since 2019 but has never really had the desired impact at the club.

A report from The Telegraph last week mentioned Sessegnon as one of the players who Spurs are keen to move on this summer.

Sessegnon made 23 appearances for Spurs last year (Transfermarkt), with his injury problems surfacing once again. When he did play, the left-back hardly set the world alight and found it difficult to hold down a starting spot in the team.

Nottingham Forest want Ryan Sessegnon from Spurs

Journalist Alan Nixon wrote on his Patreon about Sessegnon’s situation and the latest update suggests Nottingham Forest are interested in signing the Spurs man during the current transfer window.

It is thought that Forest boss Steve Cooper is looking to work with the player again, after managing him for the England Under-17s previously.

After a whirlwind summer last year that saw Forest sign practically an entire new squad of players, the Reds managed to retain their Premier League status.

They will be looking for further reinforcements to ensure they can avoid relegation this time around.

Cooper is believed to want to bring Sessegnon in an attempt to make the most of the potential the player has.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that Sessegnon has no future at Tottenham and a move to Nottingham Forest feels like a good fit for everyone involved. Hopefully, we can get this deal sorted out as soon as possible and get a bit of money back in the budget.

Tottenham Hotspur have made Ryan Sessegnon available for transfer this summer as they look to raise funds and clear the squad to make room for new arrivals.

After a miserable campaign in 2022/23 which saw the Lilywhites finish eighth in the Premier League and crash out of every cup competition sooner than hoped, there is a need for change at the club.

Tottenham have a new manager in Ange Postecoglou, and the former Celtic boss has wasted no time in reinvigorating the squad he has inherited.

Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison have already signed, while Dejan Kulusevski’s loan move from Juventus has been made permanent.

There is also expected to be an exodus at the club as many players will be moved on to allow for a fresh start at Hotspur Way (Telegraph).

The bloated squad, including a variety of players who spent last season on loan elsewhere, desperately needs to be trimmed and upgraded.

Sessegnon is being put up for sale by Tottenham

One player whose time at Tottenham appears to be over is Ryan Sessegnon. The left-back joined Spurs from Fulham in 2019 but has never quite managed to live up to his potential.

The latest report from The Telegraph discusses the status of a whole host of Spurs players who could be set to depart this summer, and Sessegnon is named among those the club is actively trying to sell.

The report claims Tottenham are “looking to offload” Sessegnon during the current transfer window.

Sessegnon made just 23 appearances in all competitions for Spurs last term (Transfermarkt), with injury issues striking yet again.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given his injury record and sub-par performances, it is hard to imagine many clubs queuing up to sign Sessegnon.

We can’t expect much of a transfer fee for him, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him even dropping to the Championship.

The Telegraph have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to have a mass clear-out this summer, with as many as ten first-team players potentially leaving Hotspur Way.

The report states that Ange Postecoglou‘s arrival is expected to precede an attempted clear-out as the club wants to re-shape the squad for the Australian.

It is explained that Spurs’ disappointing campaign has prompted a will to perform major surgery on the squad this summer.

The Telegraph reveal that experienced duo, Hugo Lloris and Ivan Perisic are expected to leave while Davinson Sanchez and Ryan Sessegnon could also be on their way out.

It is said that Clement Lenglet may be allowed to return to Barcelona while Spurs are also expected to listen to offers for both Eric Dier and Ben Davies.

Finally, it is asserted that the North London club will also attempt to sell Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks when the trio return to the club from their loan spells.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that the squad needs major surgery but Postecoglou and the Spurs hierarchy would perhaps realise that it cannot all be done in one go.

So, the 57-year-old would have the decision to make on who to move on first and I can see him perhaps opting to keep the likes of Davies and Sessegnon until January or next summer.

The Evening Standard have revealed that both Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon could end up leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

While Ivan Perisic has posted some impressive numbers in his first season at Tottenham, with 11 assists to his name across all competitions, the Croat has not set the world alight defensively.

That is part of the reason why Antonio Conte preferred Ryan Sessegnon to the experienced star on many occasions during the first half of the campaign.

However, the former Fulham man’s injury problems have once again prevented him from getting a regular run in the starting eleven over the last few months.

The Evening Standard have said that on the back of another injury-hit campaign, Spurs might decide to put the 23-year-old in the shop window this summer.

The publication adds that Perisic might also be put up for sale by the Tottenham hierarchy since the former Inter Milan man was an Antonio Conte signing.

Tottenham will be boosted by the return of Destiny Udogie from his loan spell at Udinese this summer, with the 20-year-old having another impressive campaign at the Dacia Arena.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even putting his injury issues aside, Sessegnon has never looked good enough to be a regular starter for a club with Champions League ambitions.

While there is nothing wrong with his defensive game, the 23-year-old is quite clumsy in possession and seems to be incapable of making half a yard for himself.

In his latest press conference, Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Cristian Stellini has shared an update on the fitness of three of his injured players – Richarlison, Ryan Sessegnon, and Ben Davies.

It’s safe to say Tottenham have not had the best of luck when it comes to injuries this season, with key players like Hugo Lloris, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Heung-min Son all missing extended periods of the campaign so far.

As we head into the final stretch of the season, it’s still all to play for with eight games to go.

Spurs will be hoping to climb above Manchester United and Newcastle United to seal a place in the top four of the Premier League and secure Champions League qualification for next season.

However, Stellini still appears to be unsure of when he can expect defenders Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon back in action, while Richarlison begins his recovery process.

Stellini told Football.London: “We have only Richarlison with one-week training with us.

“Only Richy completely back and we recover him, The other players they start to work but work alone so they are not available.

“We have to take care with him to give him training and the right time to play. Don’t take risks.”

On the status of Davies and Sessegnon, Stellini added: “[That] is a question for the doctor. They are not working with us. They are working alone.

“We are pushing and the doctor are trying to do their best to have them without risk as soon as possible, but it’s not a question for me, I don’t have a perfect answer.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Richarlison coming back will be a huge boost for us going into the final run in this season.

We also need at least one of Sessegnon or Davies back soon, to provide cover on the left side of the defence, as it’s Perisic all on his own there at the moment.

The Independent have revealed that Emerson Royal faces a race against time to return before the end of the season after suffering a knee injury.

Emerson was seen limping off the pitch in stoppage time of Brazil’s international friendly in Morocco on Sunday, with journalist Tom Barclay confirming yesterday that the right-back will undergo surgery on his knee.

Meanwhile, Richarlison limped off just a couple of minutes into the 3-3 draw against Southampton, with Football.London reporting recently that the 25-year-old’s injury is not as serious as initially feared and that he is expected to return ‘sooner rather than later’.

The Independent have now confirmed that Royal is expected to be sidelined for six weeks after he undergoes surgery on his knee.

With Tottenham’s Premier League season ending on May 28, the 24-year-old faces a race against time to get on to the field again this campaign.

Meanwhile, the publication adds Richarlison is targeting a return to the pitch in April and that Ryan Sessegnon is now close to being fit but the clash against Everton comes too early for the former Fulham man.

The Independent add that one player who is in contention for the clash against the Toffees is Hugo Lloris, who has now recovered from his knee ligament injury.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am devastated for Emerson as he might have, already played his final game for Spurs if he is not able to recover before the end of the season.

There is no guarantee that the next head coach will fancy him. The Brazilian has been in very good form of late and it is shame that the injury has killed the momentum he had built.

Sessegnon is a player Spurs desperately need back from injury as soon as possible after the injury to Ben Davies, who had been thriving at left-wing-back.

Ivan Perisic, who has arguably struggled to maintain his form when asked to play games every week, is now the only fit wing-back option for Spurs on the left side.

Destiny Udogie has been in fine form for Udinese out on loan, but Tottenham won’t have access to the Italian’s talents until he returns in the summer.

Gold reported that Sessegnon could be seen doing ‘plenty of gym work’ this week while the majority of the Spurs squad is away on international duty, as he looks to return to the training pitch soon.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Having options on the left will be big for Tottenham in the final few months, as Perisic doesn’t seem to have it in his legs to play every week.

That being said, we could also see a formation change if a new manager comes in, so who knows which player will end up starting on that side.

Things have gone from bad to worse for Tottenham on the injury front over the last week, with news first emerging that they will be without their captain, Hugo Lloris, for six to eight weeks after he sustained a knee injury in the win over Manchester City (Telegraph).

Spurs then announced on Thursday that Yves Bissouma will undergo surgery after injuring his ankle, with the timeframe for the midfielder’s return yet to be determined.

Bissouma’s midfielder partner Rodrigo Bentancur then picked up an ACL injury in Tottenham’s 4-1 loss at the King Power Stadium, with the Uruguayan being ruled out for the rest of the season (Guardian).

Sessegnon was not part of the matchday squad that travelled to Leicester and it emerged over the weekend that the 22-year-old had injured his hamstring in training in the lead-up to the game and faces a month and a half out of action (Football.London).

Gold has explained that the former Fulham man is devastated at the development as he had worked hard during pre-season to ensure his hamstring issues do not reoccur.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “Then there’s Ryan Sessegnon. Like I said earlier, I understand he’s absolutely devastated by this one, because he worked so hard in the summer to try and build up his body to prevent these hamstring injuries. And to have one that’s going to take him out for six weeks, it’s just soul-destroying for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Right from the start of the season, Spurs have had to deal with more injuries than almost any other side in the Premier League. In fact, Conte has not had a fully fit squad to choose from on too many occasions this campaign.

I do wonder if there will be some question marks at the club regarding the intensity of training under the Italian regime and whether it has exacerbated the problem in a season where the schedule was especially hectic.

Since then, Antonio Conte’s men have lost their captain Hugo Lloris to a knee injury, with the Frenchman expected to be out for six to eight weeks (Telegraph).

On Saturday, the Lilywhites were thrashed 4-1 by Leicester City and also lost Rodrigo Bentancur to an ACL injury, with the Uruguayan expected to miss the rest of the season (Guardian).

The blow just comes a couple of days after it was announced that Yves Bissouma will undergo surgery on his ankle, which leaves Spurs short of options in the middle of the park.

Sessegnon was not part of Tottenham’s matchday squad at the King Power Stadium and it has now emerged that the 22-year-old had suffered a hamstring injury in training in the lead-up to the game.

Football.London state that the former Fulham man is expected to be sidelined for six weeks, leaving Conte with the 34-year-old Ivan Perisic as his only natural left wing-back option at a crucial point in the season.

Spurs Web Opinion

With so many key players missing big chunks of the season, I wonder if there will be questions raised within the club about the intensity of training during pre-season (and the mini-preseason last month).

Concerns about pushing the players too hard in a season with a World Cup in the middle were dismissed by Conte in the summer but the evidence suggests that the concerns were not misplaced.

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury problems are mounting after it was revealed that Ryan Sessegnon could be out of action for up to the next six weeks.

Football.London are reporting that the left wing-back sustained a hamstring injury during training in the build-up to the Leicester City fixtures and now faces a spell on the sidelines.

Sessegnon’s absence means that 34-year-old Ivan Perisic is the club’s only fit senior player who occupies the position and it remains to be seen whether he will also look to utilise Ben Davies there on occasions with the Welshman having played a large chunk of his career there before becoming a regular as a central defender.

Tottenham are facing something of an injury crisis at present with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris having been ruled out for at least six weeks with a knee problem and was joined in the treatment room by Yves Bissouma, who underwent surgery on a fractured left ankle on Friday.

Rodrigo Bentancur was left writhing on the King Power Stadium pitch in agony when he suffered a knee injury and could play no further part afterwards, leaving Spurs with a nervous wait over his fitness.

Tottenham travel to AC Milan on Tuesday evening for the first leg of their round of sixteen clash in the Champions League and could be forced to play an inexperienced midfield pairing of Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr since Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is serving a one-match suspension having picked up three bookings in the competition.

Sessegnon has a history of hamstring issues which have plagued his time at Tottenham and spent pre-season undergoing intense strength and conditioning in Portugal in a bid to build his core strength to make his hamstrings stronger (The Sun).

SpursWeb Opinion

Tottenham are in a pivotal part of the season and with games coming thick and fast, Antonio Conte needs as many players as fit as possible.   The idea to release Matt Doherty from his contract is looking a bit of a foolish decision considering he is also able to cover the left flank.

The defeat at Leicester highlighted Tottenham’s inability to strengthen key areas of the pitch in recent transfer windows, there is a desperate need to improve the defence and this was overlooked in both the summer and during last month.
