Louis Saha has said that Tottenham Hotspur are now playing the best football across the entire Premier League but expressed doubts over whether they can challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.

It is fair to say that most opposition fans and pundits have been waiting for Spurs’ wheels to come off over the last few weeks but there is no sign of that happening at the moment.

Ange Postecoglou’s men now sit five points clear at the top of the table, which has led to conversations over the last few days about whether they can potentially sustain this and manage a title tilt this season.

The general consensus over the last few days from pundits appears to be that Tottenham simply do not have the squad depth to keep up with the likes of Man City and Arsenal for the entire season (talkSPORT).

That is an assertion that Saha also agrees with but the Frenchman admitted that the energy that the Lilywhites are now playing with is a level above what we are seeing from other sides in the division.

Tottenham are leading the way, but how long for?

The former Man Utd and Spurs striker told Paddy Power: “Tottenham have made a great start, but we’ve seen this with previous Tottenham teams over the years and it also happened to Arsenal last year.

“There’s a different type of hurdle that these teams need to get through and it’s the toughest hurdle of all. Any team can start very well but sustaining it and getting over the finish line is the hard part.

“From what I’ve seen from the Tottenham managers and the players so far, it seems like they have an energy that’s going to be really hard to challenge.

“They are a level above the rest of the League at the moment and that comes from a few key players. I still doubt that they’ll come close to Manchester City’s strength, experience and ability to win really scrappy games.

“The manager gives the players confidence, especially the midfielders – it’s amazing how they dominate almost every team they come up against. I don’t know whether they can do what Arsenal failed to do last year and really grind it out.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is too early to even be talking about Spurs potentially being in the title race as we are only a quarter of the way through the season.

The media will have those conversations as they need to fill column inches and air time but Postecoglou will want his players to focus on one game at a time rather than looking towards any potential finishing line.
