Alasdair Gold has revealed that he has heard really positive things about Tanguy Ndombele’s attitude and commitment in pre-season so far.

There is some renewed optimism among Spurs fans that Ndombele could resurrect his Tottenham career under Ange Postecoglou after the midfielder was quickly cast aside by Antonio Conte.

There have also been several reports in the media that have stoked that hope, including an update from L’Equipe (05/07/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) earlier this month claimed that the Lilywhites had turned down a €20m (£17.1m) offer from Napoli for the Frenchman at Postecoglou’s request.

The report explained that the Australian is a ‘long time admirer’ of the former Lyon man and he ‘intends to leave a space’ in his 4-3-3 formation for the player if he makes a good impression during pre-season.

However, when asked about Ndombele in his first press conference as Tottenham boss on Monday, Postecoglou was open minded, with the 57-year-old even remarking that maybe the midfielder could decide that the new regime is not for him (Football.London).

When asked if the French international was part of his plans, the head coach said: “Yeah, Tanguy has been good. He is working hard at training, to be fair they all are, they have got no option. Again, I take things as I see them. For me, he is obviously a very talented footballer, he was part of team that won Serie A last year and within that context, I am pleased to have him here and part of the group. What that means long-term, again I will not get into the definite of that because a lot of that will depend on how the team shapes up and how he shapes up.

“He may decide this is not for him. I’m not sure. Like I said, the group I have had in so far have been really good at embracing the change of direction, the way we are doing things. As I said, once we get all the other guys in, it will be great to see how everyone measures up and decisions will be made moving forward from there over who will be involved and who won’t.”

Does Tanguy Ndombele have a future at Tottenham?

Gold, who was the one who put the question about Ndombele to the Spurs head coach in the press conference, has now revealed what he has heard about the 26-year-old so far during pre-season.

The journalist said on Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “So I did ask about Tanguy because I’ve been hearing some really good things about Tanguy around the club.

“I’ve been hearing he’s come in with a really good attitude. Not to say that he didn’t before, people judge him on his body language, I just think, like Berbatov had, he has this laidback way about him, and people add that in with their view of him.

“Everything I’ve been hearing right now about him back at training has been really good and has been positive.”

One would hope that Ndombele has now turned a corner and is now keen on giving it a real go at Spurs. However, I am not getting my hopes up as we have had a few false dawns with the Frenchman over the years and I am not convinced that he would be able to adapt to Postecoglou’s relentless style.
