Journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed that Chelsea would want £50m to sell Tottenham target, Conor Gallagher.
It has been widely reported over the past few weeks that Tottenham have identified Gallagher as a potential replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is expected to complete a switch to Atletico Madrid this summer (Daily Mail).
However, it is Spurs’ London rivals, West Ham who made the first move for the Chelsea star but the Hammers’ offer of £37m plus add-ons was turned down by Blues, and it was suggested that could be the end of their biding (Jacob Steinberg).
It was subsequently claimed by The Telegraph that with West Ham now potentially out of the picture, Tottenham had moved into pole position to snap up Gallagher.
However, Mauricio Pochettino insisted last week that the 23-year-old is very much part of his plans for the upcoming season (Sky Sports).
Tottenham will not pay £50m for Conor Gallagher
Bailey has now asserted that it would take an offer of around £50m to lure Gallagher away from Stamford Bridge, adding that Spurs have no intention of meeting that valuation.
The journalist said on the Talking Transfers Podcast: “Chelsea are, I wouldn’t say they are open to it, but if someone is willing to pay £50m for Conor Gallagher they’re willing to sell.
“That is the word we’re hearing. I don’t think Gallagher is busting a gut to get out at the moment, but with the clubs linked he probably fancies Tottenham, from what we’re hearing, but Tottenham aren’t paying £50m for Conor Gallagher, nobody is.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Gallagher appears to be Ange Postecoglou’s preferred choice to replace Hojbjerg but there is very little value in paying £50m for the midfielder.
Douglas Luiz will likely cost a similar amount or even more, which is why I can see Tottenham turning their attention to someone like Franck Kessie instead.
