According to a report in Leggo (26/06/23 as relayed by Corriere Giallorosso and Sport Witness), Ben Davies could potentially be used by Tottenham in a swap deal to sign Roger Ibanez from AS Roma.

Over the past couple of weeks, multiple Italian outlets have indicated that Tottenham hold an interest in Ibanez, who Roma are looking to cash in on to offset their losses (CalcioMercato).

In fact, Romagiallorossa.it even asserted last week that the Serie A club’s sporting director Tiago Pinto had travelled to London to hold talks with Spurs regarding the centre-back.

Ben Davies could be offered in Ibanez swap deal

Leggo have now become the latest publication to report on Tottenham’s interest in Ibanez and they suggest that a creative solution can be reached for the Brazilian’s transfer to North London.

This is because Roma are said to be on the lookout for a left-back, with Leonardo Spinazzola on the verge of heading to Saudi Arabia.

It is asserted that Davies is an option who is ‘liked’ by Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese coach said to know the defender well from his time at Tottenham.

The report states that the Welshman ‘could be part of a hypothetical exchange’ to take Ibanez to the Premier League side.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe Davies would be well-suited to playing as an inverted full-back in Postecoglou’s system and I suspect the Australian will want to keep the 30-year-old at the club, particularly given the inexperience of Destiny Udogie.

So, I do not see Tottenham entertaining the idea of a swap deal between Ibanez and Davies. Besides, it does not seem like the Roma centre-back is anywhere near the top of Spurs’ wishlist.
