Journalist Matt Barlow has said that Tottenham Hotspur could try again to sign Lloyd Kelly in January after failing with a late effort to complete a deal for the Bournemouth star before last Friday’s transfer deadline.
It was reported by The Athletic on the morning of deadline day that Spurs had made an offer of £20m for Kelly, which was turned down by Bournemouth.
The outlet explained that the Cherries were reluctant to let the defender leave so late in the transfer window since they did not have time to bring in a suitable replacement.

Tottenham failed to bring any other centre-back through the door before the window shut and to some people’s surprise, they have since also decided to let Davinson Sanchez go to Galatasaray.
That means that Eric Dier is the only senior centre-back that Ange Postecoglou could now turn to if there is an injury to either Crisitan Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Tottenham could return for Lloyd Kelly in January
Barlow believes that central defence is one of the areas that Spurs will look to address in January, suggesting that another offer for Kelly could be on the cards.
The journalist said on Daily Mail’s Q&A: “There’s still quite a bit to do so I expect they will be looking for business in January. As mentioned, they are thin in central defence.
“They might try to revive the move for Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth. And Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, who was keen to leave in the summer, will have suitors again when the market reopens, possibly Atletico, which means Spurs will want to replace him.”

With Eric Dier seemingly not favoured by Postecoglou, there is no doubt that Tottenham would priority signing a centre-back in January. The Lilywhites will likely make a move for a homegrown option such as Kelly or Tosin Adarabioyo.
