Multiple reports are now suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur are facing complications in their efforts to sign defender Cristian Romero.
Romero excelled on loan at Atalanta last season and Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported on Monday that the Bergamo club are expected to take up £13.8m option to sign the player permanently and sell him on a profit to Spurs.
The journalist also hinted that the Argentine was Fabio Paratici’s number one target, with the Italian having brought the defender to Juve from Atalanta in 2019.
However, Sky Sports have now claimed that the deal for the centre-back is proving ‘difficult to achieve’ for the North Londoners.
It is asserted that the 23-year-old is attracting interest from across Europe and that Atalanta value him at more than £34m (€40m).
The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has also backed up that claim, taking to social media to suggest that Atalanta’s asking price for Romero could prove an obstacle for the Lilywhites.
On Cristian Romero to #THFC, talks are ongoing but no agreement yet on price, which could prove an obstacle.
Hearing very good reports on the player from Italy.

One would hope that Paratici’s relationship with the Atalanta hierarchy and Romero’s representatives would help Spurs get the deal over the line. If Atalanta do not lower their asking price, Tottenham will likely move on to other targets as the North London club do not tend to get involved in bidding wars.
