Ange Postecoglou has not spoken with Manor Solomon about the war, however, did insist that he knows help is there for the Israeli from the club if he needs it.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has dominated the headlines in recent times with Solomon having taken to social media on more than one occasion to react to the developments in his homeland.

The Tottenham winger wrote in his Instagram story: “In the past two days my country, my family, my friends and my beloved people have been going through hell.

“Over 800 Israelis have been murdered – the most murdered in one day since the Holocaust! Over 150 people have been kidnapped – including women, children, babies and elderly people. Thousands of missiles and rockets have been fired towards innocent civilians!

“Hamas is not doing (and has never done) anything in favour of the Palestine people. Hamas is a terror organisation with one mission only – to wipe the Jews off the planet.

“Supporting them means supporting terror, just like supporting Al-Qaeda, ISIS and the attacks on 9.11. Israel has the right to defend itself! Pray for Israel.”

It has since been reported that Tottenham have offered support to the 24-year-old amidst his distress (The Telegraph).

Postecoglou provides Manor Solomon update

Postecoglou has now admitted that while he has not spoken to Solomon about the conflict and the situation in Israel, he has had general conversations with the winger and offered him his support.

When asked if he has spoken to the player about what is happening in the Middle East, the Tottenham head coach told Football.London: “Not specifically. I have spoken to Manor. Because he’s dealing with a couple of things. He has just had his surgery as well. I have been helping him through that process.

“Again, it’s not about me trying to extract information from him. I am there. He’s going through what he is going through, like a lot of people in his position. Hopefully like I said, he feels like there’s a place here where he feels he needs some extra help or guidance, we can give it to him.

“I am not really sure where that space is. That’s going to be determined by him and where he is at. But I had a chat with him a couple of days ago. Like I said, it’s also about…I spoke a couple of weeks ago about having a balance in life and you know, he’s got a couple of things to deal with at the moment, apart from that issue with his own injury. The good thing is he feels really positive about the surgery and how it has gone so far. And he is really keen to get back involved with the team.”

This is not the first time over recent months that Postecoglou has had to deal with a Spurs player in distress, with Richarlison also opening up about his mental health struggles last month (Globo Esporte).

The Tottenham head coach reiterated that he is always available to guide his players and is trying to create an environment where they feel comfortable to open up.

He added: “You know, we all know in our lives, and we go through tough times, sometimes we just need different things from different people, you know.

“I certainly don’t try to overstep that mark. What I do try and hopefully do is create an environment here where players feel comfortable. Whether players or staff, or anyone involved with the area that I’m sort of responsible for. If they come in, it’s a space where, whatever they need, they can find. If that’s advice, guidance, just a shoulder, that’s fine.

“I care for all my players, all my staff. I make sure I say hello to every one of them every day. If there’s something that they need to sort of express to me, then hopefully I’ll give them that sort of environment to do so. Or if I feel like there’s something I can say that can help. I will. But again, with a lot of that, it’s about being guided by the people themselves, rather than me sort of trying to interject.”

Spurs Web Opinion

As usual, Postecoglou has chosen his words carefully and there is no doubt that he would have done the same in his private conversation with Solomon, who is evidently going through a very tough time at the moment.

The Telegraph have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have offered support to winger Manor Solomon following the terror attack in Israel.

The headlines around the world over the last few days have been dominated by the ghastly pictures and videos emerging out of the Middle East following Hamas’ terror attack in the south of Israel.

Solomon is understandably distressed by the events back in his home country and he took to social media to react to the developments.

Tottenham are supporting Manor Solomon in private

None of the Premier League clubs, including Spurs, have publicly condemned the terror attack or sent a message in support of the victims.

The Telegraph explain that the clubs have been put in a complicated situation, given the varied backgrounds and beliefs of their supporters and players, and they have not been given any guidance on the matter by the FA or the Premier League.

However, Tottenham have reached out privately to help Solomon, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is extremely disappointing to see that the Premier League clubs and the FA do not have the moral clarity or conviction to condemn what is a terror attack which was targeted solely at civilians.

While one can understand why clubs would not want to wade into the specifics of the Israel-Palestine conflict, condemning these types of attacks should be straightforward.

According to a new report on Tottenham Hotspur’s plans for the January transfer window, the priority will be signing a new left winger due to the injuries to Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic.

One thing Spurs have not struggled with so far this season is attacking. The Lilywhites have been playing fantastic football this term, and are one of the top-scorers in the division.

Ange Postecoglou has implemented his style of play very quickly since arriving in North London, and Ange-ball has helped Spurs climb to the top of the table after an unbeaten start to the new campaign.

The Tottenham squad may be flying right now, but there are some concerns over the amount, and extent, of injured players within the side.

A report from the Evening Standard revealed Brennan Johnson is out until after the international break, while fellow winger Manor Solomon could be out until the end of this year.

Worse yet, is the situation surrounding Ivan Perisic. The veteran star has been hit with an ACL injury and is likely to miss the whole season.

Tottenham Hotspur may move for Jota

With this in mind, the latest update from CaughtOffside suggests Spurs will look to sign a new left-sided winger in January. And, it seems Jota will be the target.

The former Celtic man, previously signed by Postecoglou during his time in Scotland, has been “sidelined” by Saudi side Al-Ittihad despite only joining the club in the summer.

Postecoglou’s “main priority” will be to “bolster the left flank” and there is thought to be “a potential transfer” in the pipeline for Jota come January.

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m not so sure we would need to sign a new winger in January. Solomon should be back by the end of the year, and Bryan Gil has just returned from his injury, too. I’d rather see us sign a new centre-back, personally.

A new report on the injury status of key first-team players at Tottenham Hotspur has shed some light on when we can expect the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Brennan Johnson, and Manor Solomon back in action.

Things are going pretty well for Tottenham right now. With six wins and two draws from the opening eight games of this campaign, the Lilywhites head into the international break at the top of the Premier League.

At present, Spurs are thriving thanks to the attacking talent of Heung-min Son and James Maddison, while Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are forming a solid partnership in defence.

However, there is always the fear that an injury to any of these key players could derail the squad’s momentum.

Indeed, Spurs are already having to deal with a number of long-term injuries to a handful of first-team players which has left the squad looking a little thin.

Rodrigo Bentancur of Tottenham Hotspur arrives at the stadium

When will the injured Spurs players be back?

A piece in the Evening Standard offers an insight into when these injured players will be back to fitness and available for selection.

The one big injury still carrying over from last season is the ACL issue for Rodrigo Bentancur. Fans can’t wait to see the Uruguay international doing his thing under Ange Postecoglou, but the club are not rushing him and his return date is still scheduled for November of this year.

There is good news on Brennan Johnson, however. The new signing is out with a hamstring injury at the moment and will miss international duty with Wales, but he is almost certain to return on October 23, for the game against Fulham.

Fellow new signing, Manor Solomon, suffered a knee injury recently and has undergone surgery. There is currently “no exact timeframe” on his recovery, but he is “unlikely to play a major role” before the end of 2023, with a December return predicted.

If you thought that was bad, spare a thought for Ivan Perisic. With a complex ACL injury, it is suspected the Croatian may have “potentially played his final game for the club,” with a return to fitness not expected until summer 2024, when his contract expires.

Similarly to Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon has been out of action since February, and is expected to return next month. He has been taking part in individual training sessions, but any involvement in wider first-team sessions is “not imminent.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Once we get Brennan Johnson back, this injury list will feel a lot more manageable, and then hopefully there won’t be too long to wait until Bentancur and Sessegnon return. We just have to pray we don’t get any more injuries in the meantime.

Ange Postecoglou had already been short of options in attack following Ivan Perisic’s ACL injury and Brennan Johnson’s current unavailability.

So, the Australian would have perhaps been squirming when he heard that he would also be without Solomon for three months after the pacy wide-man injured his knee in training (The Athletic).

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas revealed a few days ago that the Israeli international was horrified by the news as he was loving life at Spurs, but the journalist remarked that the former Fulham man is keen to come back even stronger.

The Spurs squad is rallying around Manor Solomon

When Solomon took to Instagram to thank the fans and his teammates for their support, Udogie, Johnson and Vicario all commented on his post, wishing him the best.

The Tottenham number one wrote: “Bro we wait for you. Fast recovery fratello” while Johnson wrote: “Get well soon bro.”

Udogie commented: “Waiting for you brother” and Maddison wrote on his Instagram Story: “Speedy recovery brother!”

This shows the fabulous comradery that exists within the current Spurs squad, with all the new signings appearing to have settled in quite quickly.

After news of his injury and resulting surgery this week, Tottenham Hotspur’s Manor Solomon has shared a message with fans on social media, and insists he will return ‘stronger than ever’ once he recovers.

It has been a short but sweet start to life with Tottenham for Manor Solomon. Signed from Shakhtar Donetsk on a free transfer this summer, there were high hopes the Israeli winger could provide strong competition in the Spurs forward line.

And that he has, so far. Rotating with the likes of Richarlison and Brennan Johnson, Solomon has featured six times in all competitions for Spurs this season, with two starts and two assists to his name (Transfermarkt).

Unfortunately, Ange Postecoglou will be without the 24-year-old for at least the next two months, after Solomon injured his knee in training this week.

It was reported by The Athletic that Solomon was undergoing surgery on Thursday afternoon to resolve the meniscus issue.

Alasdair Gold did find one silver lining, however, which is that the injury has not affected the same knee that kept Solomon out of action for half of last season (Gold and Guest podcast).

Solomon shares disappointment on social media

Now, Solomon himself has commented on the matter, taking to Twitter to reveal his disappointment at the injury, but vowing to be better than ever when he returns.

He said: “Not an easy one to take for me personally, but I’ve already started my rehabilitation in order to come back as soon as possible and stronger than ever. Thank you all for your support, looking forward to seeing you soon on the pitch.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We wish Manor Solomon all the best in his recovery, and hopefully he really can come back stronger than ever later this year. He was looking to be a lively addition to our front line and he will be sorely missed.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Manor Solomon’s latest injury has not been sustained on the same knee that he had an issue with for much of last season.

Earlier this week, Tottenham were hit with the bad news that Solomon faces an extended spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury (Raz Amir).

The news came as a particularly big blow given the fact that Ange Postecoglou is already short of options in attack, with the likes of Ivan Perisic and Brennan Jonson unavailable at the moment (The Athletic).

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas revealed on Wednesday that the Israeli international is not expected to be back until the turn of the year.

The journalist stated that the 24-year-old is bitterly disappointed with the news as he was loving life under Postecoglou but he remains determined to come back stronger.

Manor Solomon has not injured the same knee

Solomon also missed a big chunk of last season with a knee problem but Gold has explained that it is not a recurring issue, pointing out that the winger has not injured the same knee on this occasion.

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast: “From what I understand, it was just the most innocuous moment in training.

“This was, I think, just a moment of normal training. I don’t think there was anything that happened to him. Just one of those moments where fates conspired.

“And Manor Solomon, who’s had a really bright start to the season, just obviously has tweaked his knee. And now this meniscus needs repairing. The operation’s today. And we’ll find out how successful that is, and what that means in terms of a recovery time.

“From what I understand, I think it’s not the knee that he had an issue with last season at Fulham. So that’s as good a thing as you can get in a situation like this, in that it’s not a recurrence by the sounds of it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This is certainly a positive as if it were the same knee, it could have indicated a potential chronic problem, with Solomon very much reliant on his explosiveness and pace.

It is reported that Manor Solomon will undergo surgery later today in an effort to resolve the knee issue he suffered this week.

A new signing at Tottenham this summer, there were high hopes that Manor Solomon could have a real impact in the Spurs attack just like he did at Fulham.

The Israeli attacker has featured fairly regularly under Ange Postecoglou so far this season, albeit not always from the start of games.

With competition from the likes of Richarlison and Brennan Johnson, that is understandable. However, it seems we will have to wait quite some time to see Solomon in action again for the Lilywhites.

It emerged yesterday that Solomon had suffered a torn meniscus and would be facing up to three months on the sidelines (Raz Amir). The injury occurred in training and little was known initially as to the extent of the issue.

Manor Solomon set for surgery on Thursday

Now, we know a lot more about Solomon’s situation and when we can expect him back on the pitch thanks to a new report from The Athletic.

Solomon will undergo surgery on his knee this afternoon (October 5) and will face an “extended period on the sidelines” as a result.

It is said the 23-year-old will now be out of action for “at least a couple of months.”

There are no details as to what time this surgery will take place, but it seems Spurs are moving fast to treat the winger and get him on the road to recovery as soon as possible.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is a real blow for both Spurs and Solomon. He has started the season looking fairly lively, and definitely had more to give, too. Hopefully, the surgery goes well, and he can get back to full fitness in time for the new year.

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has revealed that Manor Solomon is devastated by the news that he is going to be out of action for three months after sustaining an injury.

Although Solomon has not succeeded in nailing down a place in Tottenham’s starting eleven every week, he has shown some promise when opportunities have come his way, having registered two assists so far.

On Wednesday, it emerged that the 24-year-old had picked up an injury in training and was potentially facing two to three months on the sidelines (Raz Amir).

The news came as a bitter blow to Ange Postecoglou, who is already without the likes of Ryan Sessegnon, Rodrigo Bentancur, Giovani Lo Celso and Ivan Perisic, while Brennan Jonson is also not expected to feature against Luton Town (The Athletic).

Disappointed Solomon likely out until 2024

Thomas has now confirmed that Solomon will not be back in action before the turn of the year.

The journalist explained that the Israeli international was loving life at Spurs under Postecoglou and is ‘hugely disappointed’ with the outcome, but he is determined to come back ‘stronger than ever’.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Perisic, Johnson and Solomon not available, Postecoglou is suddenly struggling for options in the wide areas. The one silver lining about the situation is that it gives Bryan Gil a lifeline and the Spaniard is certainly capable of making an impact if he gets opportunities.

Tottenham Hotspur may have a new player to add to the injury list this week, as journalist Raz Amir has reported that Manor Solomon picked up a knock in training.

Spurs signed Solomon on a free transfer this summer, and he has been a regular at left-wing for Ange Postecoglou, both from the start of games and as an impact sub off the bench.

However, the Israeli international could be set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury during training this week, just days before Spurs take on Luton Town in the Premier League.

Manor Solomon out injured for two or three months

Tottenham are already without Ivan Perisic and Brennan Johnson, leaving the wide areas a little stretched for depth at the moment.

Even Heung-min Son has been dealing with knocks in the opening weeks of the season and playing through the pain to make the Spurs starting XI (SportSeoul via Spurs Web).

Losing another winger so early in the season will be a big blow to Postecoglou, leaving him with little option but to start Son, Richarlison, and Kulusevski in most games until Johnson returns. Bryan Gil will likely be determined to get back to full fitness to add his name to that list too.

Spurs Web Opinion:

We have to remember that Spurs and Postecoglou are right at the beginning of their new era. The squad does not have the kind of depth required yet, at least not in Ange’s image. This could be a great chance for Gil and some of the academy youngsters like Jamie Donley to step up.

You won’t find many Premier League attackers who fancy facing off against Cristian Romero. Even his own teammates would rather not play against him as Manor Solomon names the Argentinian as the player he would least like to come up against.

Into his third year with the club now, Cristian Romero has become one of the most important players in the Tottenham Hotspur squad.

Romero was named as one of Ange Postecoglous vice-captains for the season and has flourished in his new responsibilities.

Not only is Romero the linchpin of the backline in this new regime, but the 25-year-old has also been able to contribute two goals at the other end so far this season, too (Transfermarkt).

Renowned for his no-nonsense tackles and ability to read the game, it’s safe to say the combative centre-half is one of the best in the Premier League and he’s certainly showing that this season.

Manor Solomon wants to avoid Cristian Romero

Naturally, any attacker would hate to go toe-to-toe with a player like Romero. Even his teammates don’t like the idea of playing against him, and Manor Solomon has explained why.

In an interview for the club’s YouTube channel, Solomon named Romero as the one player in the Spurs squad he would least like to do battle with.

He said: “Maybe Cuti. Cuti because he either takes the ball or he takes your legs. So it’s better not to face Cuti, and he’s also a very good defender.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I can’t think of anything worse than playing against Cristian Romero. Can you imagine being marked by a player like that?

He would be constantly putting pressure on you, probably using some of the dark arts to rile you up, and whenever you do get the ball he would be straight into you with an aggressive tackle. I’m sure the Spurs players are glad he’s on their team.

Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant has described Manor Solomon as a ‘special player’ and backed the winger to succeed at Tottenham.

It is fair to say that most people did not expect Solomon to be a regular starter for Tottenham this season, partly because he arrived at the club on a free transfer in the summer.

The 24-year-old is competing with the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min, Richarlison, Ivan Perisic and Brennan Johnson for a place in Ange Postecoglou’s starting eleven.

However, the winger has seemingly won over the Australian quite quickly, having been named in the eleven for the club’s last two matches against Burnley and Sheffield United.

The Israeli international has added a different dimension to the Spurs attack, proving a constant threat in the final third with his ability to go past defenders in one-vs-one situations and having two assists to his name already.

Avram Grant thinks Solomon will be a Spurs success

Grant is convinced that Solomon is among the best in the world in beating his man and has no doubt that the pacy winger belongs at the very top level.

The former Chelsea boss told Ynet about his compatriot: “Manor is a special player; he was excellent at Fulham. I spoke with him, and he’s thrilled to be at Tottenham; he has improved his killer instinct.

“What sets him apart is his amazing one-on-one ability; he’s among the best. He is a Premier League player in every sense.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Solomon is going to be a huge asset for Tottenham over the course of the season whether he starts or comes on as an impact substitute.

With Kulusevski finding the back of the net on Saturday, the Israeli now appears the most likely to make way if Ange does decide to hand Brennan Johnson a start.

Y Net News have revealed that Manor Solomon rejected offers from multiple Premier League sides to sign for Tottenham this summer.

Solomon’s arrival at Spurs this summer has gone a bit under the radar as it has been overshadowed by bigger-money acquisitions like James Maddison, Micky Van de Ven and Brennan Johnson.

However, the 24-year-old has certainly made a promising start to his career at the North London club, having forced himself into Ange Postecoglou’s starting eleven and delivering two impressive displays against Burnley and Sheffield United.

It was reported by The Athletic back in July that Solomon had his heart set on a move for Spurs this summer and rejected the chance to return to Fulham as well as an approach from Barcelona to seal the move to N17.

Manor Solomon rejected Aston Villa and Brighton

Y Net News have now claimed that Brighton and Hove Albion and Aston Villa also tried to sign the Israeli international during the summer transfer window.

However, it is explained that the pacy winger only ever had eyes on the Lilywhites and thus immediately rejected the approaches from the Seagulls and the Villans.

Spurs Web Opinion

One can see why Postecoglou really likes Solomon as he is quite aggressive and looks to take on his full-back one vs one at every opportunity, which is something that the likes of Kulusevski and Son do not do with regularity.

Among some of Tottenham’s big-money acquisitions this summer such as James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Brennan Johnson, Solomon’s arrival has gone a bit under the radar.

However, there is plenty for Spurs fans to get excited by about with the 22-year-old, who was outstanding at times for Fulham in his debut Premier League season after recovering from his injury.

The Israeli international has already shown glimpses of his ability to carry the ball and to go past players, registering two assists in his first Premier League start for Spurs against Burnley.

However, it will not be easy for Solomon to get consistent starts under his belt, with the likes of Son, Kulusevski, Richarlison, Perisic, Johnson and Gil capable of playing on the flank.

Oliver Skipp has been impressed by Manor Solomon

It turns out that the former Shakhtar Donetsk man has already made a very good impression on his teammates, with Skipp and Emerson Royal both praising him in a video about the FIFA 24 ratings of various Spurs stars.

Skipp told Tottenham’s YouTube channel about Solomon: “He’s really good for small-sided games, yeah”, before the host revealed: “He’s rated 77”, to which Emerson responded: “I think after the last game, he should be 79?”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the number of options that Postecoglou has upfront, I would be surprised if Solomon makes more than 10-15 starts this season. I suspect the Australian will use the winger primarily as an impact substitute from the bench.

Heung-min Son is one of four Tottenham Hotspur players to make it into the WhoScored team of the week. He is joined by teammates Cristian Romero, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon.

Tottenham were firing on all cylinders this weekend, registering a huge 5-2 win over Premier League newcomers Burnley. The victory at Turf Moor helped Spurs maintain their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

They had to do it the hard way, however, with Burnley taking the lead after just four minutes. The North London club were back in it a little over ten minutes later, though, thanks to a deft finish from captain, Heung-min Son.

The Lilywhites took the lead just before halftime when Cristian Romero rifled a long-range effort home. In the second half, Spurs were ruthless, with James Maddison adding to the lead before Son completed his hat-trick in style.

Meanwhile, Manor Solomon was given his first league start, and ended the game with two assists.

Spurs dominate the team of the week

It goes without saying that it was a good weekend for Spurs, and WhoScored clearly agree.

The outlet praised Romero for a “composed finish,” and noted how he “won all four aerial duels he contested, and made three clearances and two tackles” during the game. They gave the defender a rating of 7.91 out of 10.

Maddison also made the team, and WhoScored described him as “a menace for the Clarets backline” due to his three successful dribbles, and of course, his wonderful goal. The playmaker registered a score of 8.89 out of 10.

It was a “superb outing” for Solomon, too, whose “pair of assists came from five key passes in total to go with three dribbles and two tackles.2 Solomon was given a rating of 8.96 out of 10.

The star of the show, however, is obviously the Tottenham captain, who scored a huge 9.61 out of 10. Son led the line for Spurs and was “on fire” against Burnley, putting his opponents to the sword with three goals from five shots.

Spurs Web Opinion

It was an incredible weekend for Spurs and the perfect way to go into the international break. Hopefully, this rest can be a rejuvenating period for the squad, and they will return ready to do it all again. It’s very exciting to see goals flowing from all areas of the pitch.

Tottenham have reached the international break unbeaten in the league and look an utterly different side to the one that limped through the last few months of the previous campaign.

The defence is looking more assured with the additions of Van de Ven and Udogie and the midfield is now purring like a Rolls Royce engine.

However, until their visit to Turf Moor, it was the attack that just did not seem to be clicking. Richarlison has been hopelessly out of form and, despite their industry, Son and Kulusevski were not having the sort of impact they are certainly capable of.

We have seen that Ange Postecoglou is not afraid to make a big call, and on Saturday he arguably made his biggest one yet by moving Son into the middle, moving Solomon to the left and dropping the Brazilian to the bench.

The results speak for themselves. Three goals for Son, two of which were assisted by Solomon. Vindication.

Son Through the Middle

Those of you who read my work will know that I am more than happy to be hoisted by my own petard. If I am wrong, I own it. So, I have to admit, I was not the biggest fan of the idea of Son through the middle.

Why? To my mind, he could certainly play the role, but what elements of his game would we lose in the process? Where would be the glorious long-range efforts? Would it be worth it?

However, there were two things I neglected to account for in this assumption. Firstly, that we are now a team that actually plays with attacking patterns of play – as opposed to the less nuanced approach of: ‘You’re brilliant, make something happen’. Secondly, that Son is the ultimate team player and will play any role if it benefits the ‘greater good’.

In terms of his attributes for the role there is no need to ‘over-egg the pudding’ – his movement is razor sharp, his positioning is intelligent and, when brimming with confidence, his finishing is lethal. Not something we have seen up front for Tottenham in the first few matches.

Now with Son hopefully permanently through the middle, we are beginning to see the evolution of the front three to something a bit more ‘Ange-like’. But what does that actually look like?

Celtic Last Season

Elite football managers are continually changing and evolving based on their club, players and league they are playing in. Therefore, it is somewhat presumptuous to look back at Postecoglou’s Celtic side and try and apply that template to the current Tottenham squad.

However, now with Son in the middle, new opportunities are now available and I would expect Spurs to start playing more like Celtic did in attack. To understand that better, it is key to look at their focal point – Kyogo Furuhashi.

In all competitions last season, Kyogo netted 34 times (27 league and 7 domestic cup)(Wikipedia). If you watch his goals (YouTube), it is very clear the patterns of play that are being coached and implemented.

Twenty-two of his goals come directly from crosses. These came in three main forms:

  • The wide cross played/ drilled along the ground.
  • The square ball played from inside the box.
  • The cut back from the by-line.

All goals bar one, come from inside the box. All of these crosses were delivered in an ‘orthodox’ fashion – The cross delivered from the right was struck with the right foot.

At Tottenham, the wide players have been typically inverting, with Son and Kulusevski coming more in field rather than staying wide and driving forward.

However, on Saturday you could see with Solomon on the left – especially in relation to Son’s second goal – it was very reminiscent of Celtic’s patterns of play.

It is also worth noting that in the league last season, Kyogo had on average 2.4 shots a game (Sofascore), thus his conversion rate was exceptionally high.

Indeed, he was barely involved in any of the build-up play, averaging 13.3 touched a game (although regularly he did not see much more than an hour’s play).

Against Burnley, Son scored 3 from five efforts on goal (only one outside the area (Sofascore) and only had 27 touches, against an average of 37.1 last season (Sofascore).

This is not to say that Son will play in the exact same way that Kyogo did. With all due respect to the Japanese international, Son is a far better player and therefore Ange will have to work out how to get the maximum out of his South Korean superstar. How will this shift impact the other players at Tottenham?

Brennan Johnson

If the Burnley game is anything to go by, the assumption would be that Brennan Johnson would be deployed in his usual right-wing position. There, he will use his blistering pace and direct running to drive into space and look to provide crosses and cutbacks into the box, in the guise of an orthodox winger.

If you look at how Johnson operated in the Championship for Forest, you can see exactly how Spurs will want him to play, and, in a team with more possession and who play higher up the pitch, he will be looking to replicate those performances (YouTube).

BURNLEY, ENGLAND – SEPTEMBER 02: Heung-Min Son of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates with teammate James Maddison after scoring the team’s fourth goal during the Premier League match between Burnley FC and Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor on September 02, 2023 in Burnley, England. (Photo by Gareth Copley/Getty Images)

Where does this leave the other forwards?

The biggest question therefore will now be surrounding Dejan Kulusevski. Since his arrival at Tottenham, he has operated from the right, cutting in to deliver quality balls with his left foot (Sofascore). He also has the capacity to feint and go down the line.

There is the option to try Deki on the left, even though he has not really played there before. Although he does not have the explosive pace of Johnson, he would be able to use his trickery and strength to manoeuvre room for himself and deliver balls into the box.

However, he has also admitted that he would be more than happy to play in a number 10 role (Spurs Web). He is an extremely intelligent footballer, who makes up for his lack of pace with movement and guile. Therefore, Postecoglou may consider playing the Swede in the ‘Maddison role’ if he is injured or needs resting.

The man who came into the frontline against Burnley was Manor Solomon and the Israeli is probably the biggest beneficiary of this tactical development. He is naturally two-footed and comfortable operating on the left, the position vacated by Son.

Against Burnley, he showed his ability to work in tandem with Son; providing two assists for the South Korean and combined with some of his performances during pre-season, it looks like he may be adding to his game time significantly in the coming months.

Which leaves Richarlison. It is fair to say I am not his biggest fan, but I did think he could do a passable job in the absence of Kane.

However, Saturday showed the gulf in class between Richarlison and Son. Not only was he not scoring, he was not looking like scoring and was not quick enough to get into dangerous positions.

At present he will still be back up for Son, however, is there an alternative? Previously, I have written that he was at his best when he was at Everton driving forward down the left. Now, with Son in the middle, this could be an option.

Squad Depth

Tottenham are now in a position where there forward line should begin to fire on all cylinders. Yet, my concern is that we are still a player short in the central position.

Assuming he recovers fitness soon, Bryan Gil could offer cover on either flank. At Tottenham, he has usually played on the right, however, at Sevilla he operated predominantly from the left (Sofascore).

Hopefully, Son will stay fit until the transfer window opens and another forward can be acquired.

So here is my bold prediction. If he manages to stay fit and continues to play central, there is no reason why, by January 1st 2024, Son will have at least 13 league goals. The evolution of Sonny is underway.

Manor Solomon has been speaking about the start he has made to life at Tottenham Hotspur, and admits that, while he is enjoying being at the club, he hopes to start playing more.

The Tottenham squad has changed a lot this summer, with various faces coming in and a handful of players leaving the club.

One of those new faces to arrive in North London was Manor Solomon. The Israeli attacker joined Spurs on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk earlier this summer.

Solomon made a name for himself last season during a loan spell with Fulham. He scored five goals in 24 matches for the Cottagers in the 2022/23 campaign (Transfermarkt).

Naturally, the 24-year-old has plenty of healthy competition now he is part of the Spurs squad. Even with the departure of Harry Kane, the Lilywhites’ attack still boasts talent such as Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison.

Manor Solomon wants to play more for Spurs

So far this year, Solomon has played just 84 minutes for his new club (Transfermarkt), and in an interview with the club’s official social media account, he admitted he hopes to play more as the season goes on.

Solomon said: “I really like it, I like the club, the people, the manager. I think we have a great team and we see it every week in the Premier League.

“And I hope to integrate more and more to help the team much more and I’m sure that I will get more opportunities in the upcoming games and I’ll try to exploit them and to give everything for the team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It was always going to be tough for Solomon to break into the team, and he is going to have to be patient to get his opportunities. He will get more chances as time goes on, and I’m sure he will contribute when called upon.

The Athletic have reported that Shakhtar Donetsk asked for £5.6m in compensation from Tottenham for Manor Solomon during recent talks.

Solomon technically joined Spurs on a free transfer this summer after he was allowed to terminate the final year of his Shakhtar contract due to the conflict in Ukraine.

Rebecca Caplehorn, Spurs’ director of football administration and governance, met with Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin to discuss the compensation terms, with the Lilywhites happy to engage in such talks.

Palkin previously threatened to sue any club that tried to sign his players on a free transfer this summer as he believed it was unfair on the Ukrainian club.

He said (ESPN): “I contacted Solomon and his agent and invited him back to our club.

“I said ‘you can play all the games in the Champions League, you will be in the starting eleven’ but he doesn’t want to move and I believe he will stay in England.

“Finally, where he will go, I don’t know. In any case, if you go to Tottenham, we will deal with Tottenham in court in this case. Everything comes to a simple situation: it sounds like unjust enrichment.

“Can you imagine, we pay big money for this player and finally Tottenham receives him for free? It is not fair in respect of our club. We will definitely go to court and we will fight for ourselves.”

Talks are ongoing between Spurs and Shakhtar

It is said that while Tottenham did not accept the £5.6m fee, they did offer to hand Shakhtar a sell-on clause if the North London club part with Solomon in the future.

Negotiations are still ongoing between the two clubs, and Caplehorn continues to represent Tottenham while Daniel Levy is away on holiday.

Spurs and Shakhtar played a charity pre-season friendly yesterday in North London, with a minimum of €100,000 in proceeds going directly to the Shakhtar club community foundation for humanitarian projects in Ukraine.

However, this may end up being considerably higher after 56,000 tickers were sold.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Compensation for Shakhtar is more than fair. I can see why Spurs would prefer to offer something potential in the future like a sell-on clause, but the club likely need some cash now too, due to the struggles in their home country.

Oliver Skipp has revealed that James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Manor Solomon have integrated well into the Tottenham squad.

Tottenham secured the services of all three players early in the transfer window, which meant that Maddison, Vicario and Solomon had an opportunity to be part of the club’s full Asia Pacific tour, which spanned three countries – Australia, Thailand and Singapore.

Another player who got to meet his teammates for the first time this summer is Destiny Udogie, with the left-back being loaned back to Udinese after signing for Spurs last summer.

Skipp says new Spurs players have settled in well

All four players have impressed in the friendlies this summer, and Skipp revealed that although they have quite different personalities, they have all settled well into the group well off the pitch.

The 22-year-old admitted that he is looking forward to getting to know them better over the coming weeks and months.

When asked about the new faces, Skipp told Tottenham’s official website: “They’ve all settled in really well, all brought their different personalities to the table and really integrated into the group.

“I think this is an easy group to settle into, hopefully, we’ve made them all feel welcome, and that’s something I think this group is really good at.

“You’ve already seen Madders’ personality, Destiny, Manor, Vic as well, it will be interesting to see what they all bring to the group. It’s always exciting when you meet your new teammates.”

The pre-season tour would have been extremely useful for the new players to get to know their teammates better and find a voice in the dressing room.

It certainly appears as if they have had no issues settling in, with Maddison already emerging as one of the leaders of the changing room.

New Tottenham Hotspur signing Manor Solomon has been asked what he is looking forward to in the season ahead and revealed that he cannot wait to play in the club’s impressive stadium.

Solomon arrived at Tottenham on a free transfer earlier this summer after his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk, which was due to expire in December of this year, was terminated under FIFA’s Annex 7 amendment.

The transfer was granted special dispensation due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the suspension of all footballing activities in the country.

The Israeli attacker impressed during a loan spell with Premier League side Fulham last season, during which time he bagged five goals in a dazzling period of form between February and March of this year (Transfermarkt).

So far in his Tottenham career, Solomon has caught the eye with his creativity and attacking play across two friendlies during pre-season.

It is thought the 24-year-old has also been ‘on fire’ during training sessions with his new club (Football.London).

Manor Solomon can’t wait to play in Spurs’ stadium

In a chat with the club as part of the Spurs Diary Room Q+A, Solomon was asked about what he is excited about this season with his new club and mentioned how impressed he is by the club’s stadium.

He said: “I’m really excited. I went to the stadium a couple of days after I joined, it was brilliant to see it, it’s so beautiful. I can’t way to play there.”

So far, Solomon has only played away from home, in both Australia and Asia. He will get a chance to play at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium for the first time this coming Sunday, when his former club, Shakhtar Donetsk, travel to London for a friendly.

Spurs Web Opinion

Manor Solomon has had a really encouraging start to his time with Tottenham, and could prove to be a really valuable asset to us this season. It is really great to see how happy he is to be at the club and you get the impression he is going to hit the ground running for Spurs.
