Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi remains a top target for Tottenham Hotspur in their search for a new manager, but the Italian is expected to stay at his current club.

De Zerbi took over from Graham Potter earlier this season at Brighton, and has continued the fine work set in place by the former Chelsea boss. He has led Brighton to sixth place this year and European football next year.

Tottenham are carrying out an extensive search for their next permanent manager and Spurs have long been impressed by the work done by Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton (Evening Standard).

De Zerbi himself is thought to regard the Spurs role as coming too early for him in his career, and has signalled his intent to stay at Brighton (Football Insider).

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Italian coach is believed to still be among the top candidates on Tottenham’s list despite not wanting to leave Brighton.

Romano said: “Roberto de Zerbi, linked with Tottenham job again as one of the top names in the list but he’s not planning to leave Brighton this summer; not a concrete option now.

“De Zerbi, 100% focused on Brighton project. Postecoglou remains in Spurs list; always been there.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I have no idea why we are still pursuing Roberto De Zerbi when he has made it abundantly clear that he is not interested in leaving Brighton at this stage.

He’s got a brilliant club there and has European football to look forward to next year, so it makes no sense for him to come to us.

We really need to move on and focus on attainable targets or we are going to have another ridiculous summer of wild goose chases in the search for a manager.
