The Athletic have revealed on their live transfer blog [16 June, 3 pm] that Tottenham Hotspur are involved in a three-way battle with Brighton and West Ham United for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher this summer.

Tottenham’s interest in Gallagher came to light last week when Football.London reported that the Lilywhites were monitoring the Chelsea star.

The report suggested that the fact that the youngster wants to remain in London could work to Spurs’ advantage.

Spurs, West Ham, and Brighton all like Gallagher

The Atheltic have now also backed up Tottenham’s interest in Gallagher but they state that the Lilywhites would have to beat out the Hammers and the Seagulls to win the race for the attacking midfielder.

The report states that Chelsea were willing to sell England international in January but he rejected the chance to join Everton.

It is asserted that a departure from Stamford Bridge looks ‘much more likely’ for Gallagher this summer as the Blues want to raise funds to make moves for their transfer targets.

The Athletic claim that Brighton and West Ham have an advantage over Spurs in the race for the 23-year-old as they will both be playing in the Europa League next season.

Given how important attacking midfielders are for Postecoglou’s system, we are going to need more than just one this window. So, it is not surprising to hear that Spurs are eyeing a move for Gallagher.

The offer of Europa League football would not make either Brighton or West Ham a more attractive destination than Tottenham but the 23-year-old might feel that he has a better chance of getting regular football at either of those clubs than he does in North London.
