Ten league games have passed for this new-look Spurs who are proudly perched on the top of the Premier League with eight wins and two draws. Ange Postecoglou has influenced outstanding performances from an inexperienced side, with some players greatly exceeding expectations.

Every player who has entered the pitch this season has contributed to the 26 points earned so far. So in that respect, it is ultimately difficult to choose just five players who have made a significant impact on the scintillating start.

The ranking of the five players will be based on both on and off-pitch actions, with age and experience considered. There will also be comparisons with the dismal previous season in the cases of the players who regularly started for us last season. Without further ado, it is time to begin the list.

Pape Matar Sarr

5. Pape Sarr (21 years old)

The signs of an impressive player were prevalent for Pape Sarr at the San Siro in the Champions League knockout game against AC Milan in February. With Postecoglou gifting Sarr a proper string of games this season, the Senegalese midfielder has drifted naturally into this Spurs side.

Pape Sarr’s presence in midfield at his young age is a sublime quality to have. His long stride and tall build is reminiscent of Yaya Toure, and while Sarr is not technically complete, his raw ability has assisted Spurs in midfield. Tottenham’s ability to nullify strong possession-based sides such as Liverpool and most notably Arsenal in the North London Derby are partly due to Sarr.

His standout moment this season was the opening goal against Manchester United in the first home game of the season. The instinct to anticipate where the ball is going in the box is something many top strikers struggle with, accentuating the impressive intuition of an inexperienced midfielder.

James Maddison celebrates

4. James Maddison (26 years old)

This might come as a surprise in terms of the goal contributions which Maddison has already made in such a short amount of time. James Maddison was already a superb player at Leicester though, it is just being highlighted at a greater level in N17.

This is not disputing the quality he possesses. The healthy addition of a creative player who has an intelligent read on the game and can make line-cutting passes is more than welcoming considering there has been a drought of that for Spurs for some years.

Maddison has been so freakishly consistent so far this season. Most notably, his two assists in the North London Derby were absolutely crucial to earn a point where in previous years Tottenham would have faulted. Maddison is the missing piece of the jigsaw.

LUTON, ENGLAND – OCTOBER 07: Micky van de Ven of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates after scoring the team’s first goal during the Premier League match between Luton Town and Tottenham Hotspur at Kenilworth Road on October 07, 2023 in Luton, England. (Photo by Henry Browne/Getty Images)

3. Micky van de Ven (22 years old)

There is an overused term to describe central defenders of van de Ven’s ilk, which is the mentioning of a certain luxury car manufacturer. However, I would have no qualms in branding him that. His adaptation to a difficult league has been smooth, and for that, he deserves enormous credit.

Micky van de Ven physically suits Ange Postecoglou’s style of play to a tee. His ability to close down space and use his stature to retain and recover the ball for Spurs is superb. In contrast to the defenders last season, it is night and day.

The most recent game against Crystal Palace was the most impressive for van de Ven, where he was gifted man of the match by Jamie Carragher. He kept the counterattacks to a minimum and remained composed to help Spurs to maintain the unbeaten run. He truly is a Rolls Royce.

LONDON, ENGLAND – OCTOBER 27: Son Heung-Min of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates after scoring the team’s second goal during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park on October 27, 2023 in London, England. (Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images)

2. Heung Min Son (31 years old)

After a disappointing campaign last season, pressure was on Heung Min Son to be Tottenham Hotspur’s main man. The South Korean was handed the captaincy and has transformed the relationship between players and fans already this season.

From the outset of this season, Son focused on improving relationships in the club. The team huddle by the Spurs away end against Brentford is a moment that cannot be underestimated. His off-pitch decisions have been as efficient as his on-field contributions.

The hat-trick at Turf Moor was just an example of the world-class quality which Son holds. A set of fantastic finishes, but the adaptation to leadership and to being Tottenham’s main reliance for goals is what has been the most impressive addition to Son’s locker.

LONDON, ENGLAND – SEPTEMBER 30: Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates with the fans after Joel Matip of Liverpool (not pictured) scores an own goal during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool FC at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 30, 2023 in London, England. (Photo by Ryan Pierse/Getty Images)

1. Cristian Romero (25 years old)

If you cast your mind back to a game at St. James’ Park near the end of last season, Tottenham leaked five goals in 21 minutes in an embarrassing 6-1 defeat. Cristian Romero started in that embarrassing performance, so the turnaround has been astonishing.

The Argentinian was named co-captain alongside James Maddison this season and has taken responsibility for organising an extremely raw, inexperienced defence. Tottenham currently boast the third-best defensive record in the league with nine goals conceded. It is clear that Romero’s influence and commanding presence are a large reason for that.

Cristian Romero has provided strong and composed performances in every Spurs game so far this season. In terms of a standout moment, it has to be the screamer against Burnley. What should be recognised is the turnaround in defence, and for that, he has been the most impactful player of this season for Spurs.

Honourable Mentions

It was painfully difficult to exclude Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie, who have also had a great impact on Ange Postecoglou’s progressive style of play.

While Spurs are almost certainly in a honeymoon period, the encouraging start of such an inexperienced team is simply exciting. Ange Postecoglou deserves the credit but it is the team which is fuelling the results have earned recognition.

Four impressive Premier League games have Ange’s Tottenham perched in second place, with a set of scintillating performances that have caught the eyes of the entire division. James Maddison has been the shining light for Spurs so far, racking up two goals and two assists already.

The attacking midfielder has already been named co-captain and is absolutely essential to the new style Spurs are playing.

Maddison was signed from Leicester in the summer with an aim to fill the creative void that had been absent since Christian Eriksen’s departure in 2020.

James Maddison has been top-class so far for Spurs, exceeding expectations with his influence off and on the pitch.

He opened his account against Bournemouth at the Vitality but was largely impactful in Tottenham’s dominant 5-2 victory at Turf Moor on Saturday, with a particularly impressive finish from outside the box.

James Maddison Ange Postecoglou

This signing will unquestionably be Ange Postecoglou’s most important as Spurs manager. James Maddison is critical to the free-flowing, progressive brand of football which has the fans excitable.

The 26-year-old has been fantastic in speedy transitions in which his accurate passing and ability to think quickly allows Spurs to catch teams out, such as in the build-up for the 5th goal at Turf Moor.

A guarantee is goal contributions with the talent of Maddison. His prowess on set-pieces provides a greater chance for goals, and his ball-striking is one of the best in the Premier League as shown at his previous club. The long-range striking ability will be crucial in games in which Spurs may struggle to break down the opposition.

Maddison is an incredibly intuitive and intelligent footballer and has the ability to draw fouls and frustrate opposition when necessary. The advanced midfielder is typically booed by opposition fans due to his streetwise nature of playing. Ange Postecoglou must be more than delighted by the start he has made.

For these reasons, James Maddison is the crown jewel in Ange Postecoglou’s plans to build Spurs back stronger after the team failed to finish in a European spot last season. Maddison is the definition of a perfect signing for this system and will undoubtedly remain a constant in this Spurs team for the years to come.

Maddison is already Postecoglou’s Spurs talisman

Just months after joining the club, Maddison was already awarded the role of co-captain with Cristian Romero after impressing Ange Postecoglou, who expressed enthusiasm about Maddison’s performance on Saturday; “Madders was good. He’s obviously a creative force for us. He’s a quality player and a quality person” [BBC].

Ahead of the Bournemouth game, James Maddison conveyed how it is to play under Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs; “When he talks you believe what he’s saying and the way he wants to play. It’s almost non-negotiable, you have to play his football and that football suits me” [TNT Sports].

The impact that James Maddison has had on Tottenham is already exciting, with the future looking promising with the English attacking midfielder at the heart and spine of this new look team under Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham have stated their intent this transfer window and have fully backed new manager Ange Postecoglou with several statement signings, and it appears Daniel Levy views him as part of a long-term project.

The Spurs managers which followed Mauricio Pochettino were never truly gifted the resources to launch the aggressive rebuild the squad was desperately in need of, and therefore were tasked of overachieving with an ageing squad.

Daniel Levy

Jose Mourinho was brutally sacked right before a chance to win silverware, and Antonio Conte departed in March after a furious rant which indirectly insulted Daniel Levy’s tenure.

Finally, the wave of pessimism and mediocrity is starting to pass, and fans are encouraged about new management. Ange Postecoglou is determined to change the perception in N17 and breathe a fresh style of attacking football which has been absent for four years too many.

Daniel Levy has spent considerably more in this transfer window than years prior. The loans of Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski were finally made permanent, along with James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Alejo Véliz, Ashley Phillips and Micky van de Ven.

The window is not completely over yet, and money has been thrown at a rebuild. There has also been a clear direction for young talents and investing in the future, while also investing in positions that desperately needed attention.

The significant backing in this transfer window tells the fans that he is ready to trust a manager all the way. Daniel Levy will be fully aware that he did not invest fully in the two previous long-term managers and that had an effect on performance, and his eyes will also be aware of the clubs surrounding Spurs throwing money at the market to improve league position.

The Harry Kane saga was far from ideal for Spurs. The striker ultimately sold the striker at a dreadful time, which has had an effect on preparations for the season.

However, this had clearly been planned for months, and our latest signings have reflected that. Blaming Daniel Levy for selling our best-ever player at the highest price is ludicrous, and selling Kane now was simply smart business.

It is fair to say Daniel Levy failed Harry Kane long-term though. Kane’s ambition was never matched in transfer windows, which hampered any potential progress that was to be made.

In this case, many supporters will not forgive Daniel Levy, but the Spurs chairman deserves praise with the investment in this transfer window so far.

One thing is undoubtable – Daniel Levy is desperate to not see Spurs left behind. He has had critiques in the past, and protests have been justifiable at times, but this summer he deserves credit.

Levy has never been a let-down as an operator and has made Tottenham Hotspur a successful business. His lack of investment and sporting decisions have typically been detrimental, but it feels as if he is finally ready to invest on the pitch.

A new era of Tottenham Hotspur under Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou must be here to stay for plenty of years. Unlike previous coaches, he is bound to be given time, even if Spurs majorly underachieve.

Patience might have just entered the vocabulary of Daniel Levy, who is now aware that a project needs time and backing over a significant time scale, and hiring an elite manager does not turn results around immediately.

With the negative atmosphere circling Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks, the need for a new Director of Football is absolutely necessary before any important sporting decisions are made.

With Spurs set to select a new manager relatively soon, the need is now.

Joe Lewis Daniel Levy

After Fabio Paratici was banned by FIFA worldwide for two-and-a-half years, the club have appeared frantic and disorganised.

The initial hiring of the Italian director of football was a positive one, and successfully reformed the on-pitch identity of Spurs with signings such as Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

The view is that Spurs have reverted back to square one since the recent sacking of Antonio Conte and Paratici’s ban, which has seen Daniel Levy repeat exactly what he did two years prior, which was hire Ryan Mason as interim to see a dreadful season out, such as when Jose Mourinho was a casualty to the Levy dismissal.

Directors generally aim to be the figureheads of a project, and a forward vision for the football club. Their influence, sporting-wise, is monumental.

They will generally be involved in manager searches, scouting and transfer strategy intently. It is imperative that an elite club identifies a good Director of Football in order to succeed.

Tottenham Hotspur are at a crucial point where effective decision-making is crucial to the future of the club.

With no Director of Football or Manager, the board has crucial decisions to make in the coming weeks, and the former must be hired immediately to lay out a project which can be pursued for the future.

Daniel Levy will surely have the final say on the new Director of Football, but the chairman’s gradual distancing from the footballing operations has to be seen as a positive one.

Scott Munn, the club’s new chief football officer who was announced to be joining Spurs last month could be assisting Levy in seeking out the new Director of Football.

Munn, who was the chief executive of City Football Group China before taking the new role at Spurs will be important in future strategy at Spurs, as he and Daniel Levy will attempt to build a strong, elite structure such as at Premier League champions Manchester City.

His work officially begins on July 1, but it would be unsurprising if he has influence in the upcoming decisions.

A new Director of Football is needed immediately so Spurs can speed up and narrow down the managerial search, which simply appears to be dragging beyond the end of the current season.

Implications will become obvious down the line this summer if there are delays, and the strategy may appear disjointed, because if we are being honest, Levy having a say-so over transfers has not generally been successful.

The recent standout names are Tiago Pinto (inews), the current sporting director at AS Roma, who works closely with Jose Mourinho and has praise and admirers across the world of football, so would certainly be an option.

Also linked was Tim Steidten, who has worked at Werder Bremen and most recently Bayer Leverkusen, where he left in March (Standard). The recent links are a positive to all Spurs fans, but it is important that the trigger is pulled as soon as possible.

The importance of Levy’s next decision cannot be understated. This is a key stage in his tenure, and the Tottenham chairman will be strongly judged based on this summer after an extremely disappointing season, which has been infected with poor decision-making.

The psychological side of football is hugely underappreciated in terms of the impact it has on the players and the club, and Spurs have had an embedded culture of being ‘Spursy’ for an extended period.

After the draw at Goodison Park, the mentality of Tottenham was once again questioned after they failed to hold a one-goal, one-man advantage.

For a number of years, Spurs have notoriously failed to hold on to advantages, and particularly have been labelled as ‘bottlers’. While that is generally a lazy label, the performance of the last 20 minutes assisted that prophecy.

The toughest job a coach has when they join a club is installing their mentality in the club and changing the negative mindset that probably caused the previous manager to be fired.

Tottenham fans have been praying for a side that does not instantly collapse at the thought of pressure at a time of meaning.

Antonio Conte and the rest of the footballing world were once again proved correct this week. Spurs seemed to almost add pressure to themselves.

Antonio Conte

(Photo by Robin Jones – AFC Bournemouth/AFC Bournemouth via Getty Images)

It was almost as if Conte’s words in the post-match press conference at Southampton reciprocated on the pitch. The belief and intensity to hold on last night was non-existent.

It feels as if the idea that Spurs have an inability to avoid crumbling in important moments is impossible. The performance accentuated that with the sloppy passes around the back and the defensive mindset after Harry Kane’s penalty.

The most damning evidence of the belief about Tottenham lies with Giorgio Chiellini’s interview in 2018 after knocking Spurs out of the Champions League game, where they conceded two goals in three minutes at Wembley.

Chiellini said there was a belief amongst the Juventus side that Spurs would collapse, as it is in their history to do so.

There is no doubt that psychologically this plays on the mind of every footballer playing for or against Spurs. Everyone has heard the unforgettable Sir Alex Ferguson ‘lads, it’s Tottenham’ quote.

Psychologically, every team to ever face Spurs must believe in this weakness, particularly with the current set of players.

Tottenham have got far to go in terms of shifting the perspective on the club. Under Daniel Levy’s tenure, Spurs have been more consistently near the top end of the table but only one EFL Cup is unacceptable for the standards at the club. With the best facilities in the country, Spurs must do better.

A revamp of the current squad is needed. Too many familiar faces who have repeatedly failed Spurs in important games still sit in the changing room. The idea that you can succeed without drastic change is a mentality in which the board and directors have to realise.

The fans have high standards for Tottenham. Truthfully, fourth place is about the best the club can do at this moment in time. With no clear strategic plan, succession cannot be visible.

Comparing to other clubs, such as Spurs’ neighbours Arsenal, a clear upwards trajectory has been visible since the appointment of Mikel Arteta.

Daniel Levy needs to lay out a plan to win silverware with Tottenham over the next few years, and his first job is finding a manager who can match the vision and DNA of the football club. That manager needs to focus on shifting the naturally weak mindset, like Pochettino once achieved.

Repeatedly making poor decisions does not reflect well, and the recent controversy with director of football Fabio Paratici does not help. Additionally hiring Cristian Stellini, Conte’s number two as his replacement. Levy must begin to make positive decisions to earn trust.

Tottenham must be able to compete financially with their counterparts to be taken seriously and have a clear strategy in the transfer market.

The general feeling is that Spurs just sign who they wish without thinking whether there is a positive benefit for the future.

Signing 33-year-old Ivan Perisic and 19-year-old Destiny Udogie in the same window does not represent that.

One thing is for certain – the psychology in football has an everlasting effect and time is necessary for effective change.

Tottenham must start taking positive steps and provide a clear vision, because fans are growing frustrated, and it looks extremely blurry as it stands.

Harry Kane surpassed Jimmy Greaves to become the all-time greatest Spurs goal scorer on Sunday against Manchester City, but what are his 10 greatest competitive goals in lilywhite?

I am going to countdown the ten best Harry Kane goals for Tottenham based on the quality of the goal, with the occasion/context of the goal taken into consideration.

Harry Kane

(Photo by Tottenham Hotspur FC/Tottenham Hotspur FC via Getty Images)

10. Liverpool (A, 2015/16)

This goal is simply an entry for how underrated it is. Anfield is a tough place to visit, and Spurs were 1-0 down and needed a goal. Kane received the ball inside the box facing backwards to goal, controlled the ball spectacularly and quickly smashed it on his right into the corner, hard and low. This is an underrated goal and would be so difficult to replicate.

9. Arsenal (H, 2014/15)

It would have been wrong to not include this goal. A winner, in your breakout season for your boyhood club in the North London Derby in the closing minutes is probably something we have all dreamed of as a child. Kane’s header was spectacular as well, he had to lean back and got an almighty dip on the ball. One of our own!

8. Leicester (Away, 2019/20)

I always find it difficult placing this goal because it is simply so unique. Have you ever seen a player score lying down? Harry Kane ran through against Leicester and was stumbling over, where kicked the ball on the floor, which somehow, lofted over Schmeichel into the top corner. Was this a stroke of genius or luck? If it’s the former, it is one of his greatest goals.

7. Burnley (Home, 2019/20)

This goal was always shadowed by Son’s spectacular solo run, which was in the same game. Kane’s finish in this game was superb. He was from some range, and whacked the ball with his right foot, with some pace, into the net. It was more the power than the accuracy that earned this goal, but it was undoubtedly unstoppable.

6. Stoke City (Home, 2016/17)

A title-chasing Tottenham seemed to be crushing through everyone this season and Stoke were no different. Kane scored a hat-trick in this game, but his second finish in this game was superb. A cross came into the edge of the box, where the unmarked striker spectacularly volleyed a goal with his left foot, which was at about hip-height. Technically, one of his best finishes.

5. Wolves (Home, 2018/19)

All great strikers can score with both feet, but this goal was simply special from Kane. Left foot, outside the box, smashed it into the top left corner in front of a Wembley crowd. A finish that even the away crowd could appreciate.

4. Borussia Dortmund (Home, 2017/18)

Spurs had a disappointing Champions League season prior, and in front of a Wembley crowd, they had to improve. Harry Kane scored a superb goal in this game, where he seemingly shrugged off every Dortmund player that came at him from the halfway line until he got into the box, where he powerfully caught Burki out at the near post with his weak foot. Probably his best Champions League goal to date.

3. Crystal Palace (Home, 2020/21)

In arguably Kane’s greatest season at Spurs, where he claimed the golden boot and top assist award, this goal was the best. A superb, first-time, curled finish from the right hand side, outside the box, into the top left corner. It was unstoppable, and just brilliant.

2. Chelsea (Home, 2014/15)

This was Kane’s breakout season, and this goal announced himself as a world class finisher. Chelsea had an unbelievable season under Jose Mourinho, and it took a mammoth effort to beat them on New Year’s Day. Kane dribbled past three Chelsea players, and smashed a cross-shot past Thibaut Courtois from 25 yards or so. A special way to announce yourself.

Honourable Mention: Juventus (Neutral, 2019/20)

This does not make the list as it is a pre-season friendly, but a last-minute winner against Juventus, from the halfway line deserves some credit. I have no idea why he chose to do it, but it was a spectacular finish. I still think Kane wants a half-way line goal competitively at one point.

1. Arsenal (Home, 2015/16)

Arsenal had just gone down to 10 men and Spurs had equalised, and the stadium was rocking. In comes Harry Kane from the left, who took the ball to the corner of the 18-yard box and whipped it with pace past Ospina to send Spurs into the lead, and White Hart Lane into raptures. It was a special goal, and undoubtedly his most iconic.

I may have missed out your favourite goal, and there is particularly a number of goals where they were important, but not necessarily great and therefore missed out. Either way, Harry Kane has a wide catalogue of stunning goals, and hopefully there is more to come.

Sonny has now scored 8 goals this season across all competitions (TransferMarkt) and both at the weekend were important in Spurs advancing.

The first was a curled finish with his left foot from the outside of the box into the left-hand corner and the second was a striker’s finish from inside the box after successfully turning the Preston defender. Spurs went on to add a third with Danjuma scoring on his debut.

Those two goals meant that Son surpassed George Hunt to enter 7th place among the all-time top-scoring Spurs players in history.

The 30-year-old currently has 138 goals in 352 appearances for the club since joining in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen.

After the Preston win, Son told Spurs TV: “I am very very happy to help the team go to the next round.”

He now has 14 FA Cup goals and is tied in 8th with Les Bennett, Teddy Sheringham and Johnny Morrison for Spurs’ top FA Cup goal scorers.

Son is now five goals away from overtaking Jermain Defoe, who scored 143 goals for the club, to become the 6th highest Spurs scorer in the club’s history.

The full list is as follows:

1 = Jimmy Greaves – 266 goals in 379 appearances – 1961-70
1 = Harry Kane – 266/415 – 2011-
3 – Bobby Smith – 208/317 – 1955-64
4 – Martin Chivers – 174/367 – 1968-76
5 – Cliff Jones – 159/378 – 1958-68
6 – Jermain Defoe – 143/363 – 2004-2014
7 – Heung-Min Son – 139/352 – 2015-
8 – George Hunt – 138/198 – 1930-37
9 – Len Duquemin – 134/307 – 1947-57
10 – Alan Gilzean – 133/439 – 1964-74

The vision of the club in the last two January transfer windows has clearly been to improve the squad in the weakest positions based on depth and quality.

Tottenham searched the market for an attacker as the contract of Lucas Moura is running out, and a right wing-back which is an area which has been particularly lacking in quality this season.

The first name through the door was attacker Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal on a loan with an option to buy. The 26-year-old is versatile and has the ability to play through the middle or from the left-hand side.

The Dutchman will aim to add competition and fight for a starting place and make effective substitute appearances. The majority of Danjuma’s chances will come in the busy fixture schedule and the cup fixtures which are to come. He will aim to push for a place over the inconsistent Heung-Min Son this season, otherwise, injuries will be his best chance.

Spurs’ deadline day completion of Pedro Porro has caught the eye of the fans though. The right-wing back impressed in both Champions League games the club played against Sporting Lisbon in the group stages this season.

Porro undoubtedly has the quality to walk into the starting eleven, particularly after the departures of Matt Doherty and Djed Spence.

The 23-year-old has displayed attacking quality this season which has been absent in the Spurs side. The Spaniard has 3 goals and 11 assists so far this season (Transfermarkt)

So how will Danjuma and Pedro Porro affect Tottenham’s side? This is how Antonio Conte might integrate the two latest additions:

Starting XI (Formation: 5-2-3): Hugo Lloris, Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Clement Lenglet, Ivan Perišić, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane, Danjuma.

Danjuma’s place in this side seems the most likely on the left-hand side rather than through the middle. It feels as if Richarlison is second fiddle to Harry Kane and that Danjuma will be competing with Son. The South Korean is regularly substituted by Conte which could see Danjuma make an impression and potentially start more games.

Pedro Porro seems an inevitable starter based on form and quality. Antonio Conte likes his wingbacks to provide goals and assists and at the minute that is only coming on the left-hand side from Ivan Perišić. We could see Porro as early as the Man City game this Sunday.

The January transfer window has been a successful one once again for Tottenham and minor improvements to the squad could make a substantial impact in the push for a trophy and another top-four finish.

Harry Kane is on the brink of Spurs history as he heads into Sunday’s horth London Derby one goal short of equalling the great Jimmy Greaves who scored 266 for the club.

Kane was a relatively slow starter for Spurs and was largely unimpressive in the years between 2010-2013. He received plenty of chances but appeared painfully average after each appearance. Afterwards, Kane was then continuously sent out on loan without any improvement as his career threatened to wash away like so many others.

It is difficult to give a specific reason for when that all changed, but Tim Sherwood’s greatest managerial moment was probably gifting Kane three appearances at the end of the 2013/14 season, where the striker scored three goals. This meant Mauricio Pochettino, the new manager at the time, gave him a chance.

He had an insane belief in himself that he was destined to reach the elite level, as many footballers do. He was superb in the Europa League campaign of the following season and scored 7 goals in 9 games, which impressed Pochettino.

We all remember that infamous late winner at Aston Villa from the freekick. It was a poignant moment in our history. Pochettino kept his job, and Kane earnt the trust from the coach, and that bond lasted for years.

After that, he took off and became a hero at White Hart Lane. That season included a brace at home against Chelsea on New Year’s Day and a winner against Arsenal. It was an unfathomable rise, and being one of our own, it felt sweeter.

Of course, from then, the trajectory led to being one of the best strikers in world football. He won his first Premier League golden boot in the following season, and repeated that feat in the season after that with an astonishing 29 goals in 30 Premier League games.

His best goal scoring year was unquestionably 2017. Six Premier League hat-tricks, which included the most Premier League goals scored in a calendar year. He was also the top scorer in Europe, scoring more than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, ending the year on 56 goals in 52 appearances.

He kept reaching unthinkable heights for the following years as his game matured. Earning the golden boot and top assists award in the Premier League in 2020/21 with 7th placed Spurs is not talked about enough.

Among many Spurs fans today, I was never able to watch the legendary Jimmy Greaves, one of England’s greatest ever goal scorers. I have seen players more talented than Harry Kane for Tottenham, such as Gareth Bale, Jürgen Klinsmann or Paul Gascoigne.

Additionally, there are certainly players who have achieved more at Spurs if you classify silverware as important on judgement of an individual player. If we are strictly talking about the greatest ever Spurs player, for me it is Harry Kane.

His goals and records speak for themselves though, and I believe winning trophies is not down to him for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, a trophy has not come and we all hope he eventually lifts one. He is the greatest ever Spurs player because of the times he carried us single-handedly and produced moments of magic. Even most recently against Portsmouth, his stunning finish won the game for Spurs.

There will be no better time to confirm his status as the best we have ever had with a brace on Sunday, which will make him surpass Jimmy Greaves, reach 200 Premier League goals, and potentially sink title-chasing Arsenal.

The Telegraph have revealed that Spurs have identified Brentford goalkeeper David Raya as the long-term successor to Hugo Lloris.

Spurs are actively searching for a goalkeeper to replace 36-year-old captain Hugo Lloris, whose contract expires in 2024. Matt Law has reported that the club want a replacement before he departs, and Spurs are targeting Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

Raya will enter the last year of his contract this summer and will surely attract interest from many clubs, but the report asserts that Spurs will not be targeting a goalkeeper this January. Antonio Conte likes Lloris but is conscious that a replacement needs to be sought after.

Lloris signed a contract extension in 2022 to stay for another two years, but his standards have dipped somewhat this season. The Frenchman was at fault for the first goal conceded to Aston Villa last week, but has been a leader in the Spurs changing room since he joined in 2012.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is also on the list for Spurs for goalkeepers, but a deal might be more difficult. His contract also expires in 2024, with the England number one yet to commit to a new deal.

Spurs Web Opinion:

David Raya, at 27 years old, is the right age for a goalkeeper that Spurs are looking for, as they search for a long-term replacement for Lloris. The Spaniard has proved he is Premier League quality with exemplary performances, such as against Liverpool most recently.
