Gary O’Neil praised Micky van de Ven and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for the roles they played respectively in Tottenham’s two goals against Fulham.

Tottenham fashioned several chances throughout the game, particularly in the first half, with the Cottagers struggling to cope with the home side’s movement and combination play.

However, both of the Lilywhites’ goals came as a result of them winning the ball high up the pitch, with Fulham caught out trying to play out from the back.

It was Van de Ven who intercepted the ball ahead of the first goal before playing it to Richarlison, who in turn found Son Heung-min, who took a touch to wrong-foot the defender before curling it into the top corner.

Hojbjerg won the ball ahead of the second goal and played it first-time to Son, who found James Maddison, with the attacking midfielder keeping his composure to slot home past Bernd Leno.

Gary O’Neil was impressed by Tottenham duo

O’Neil noted how Ven de Ven’s and Hojbjerg’s first passes when Tottenham won the ball back were perfectly weighted.

The Wolves boss said on Sky Sports MNF: “I think the key to both of the goals was the quality on the first pass. Jamie touched on the one at half-time, when the centre back comes in and cushions it in lovely with his left foot, and then the second one, Hojbjerg stepping in, fantastic first pass into the nine and no time for Fulham to recover.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite noticeable that Tottenham have worked quite a lot on their pressing structure and how to maximise three vs three (or similar situations) in the training ground. We have looked quite deadly when winning the ball back in the final third.

Gary O’Neil has heard from those he knows at Tottenham Hotspur that Ange Postecoglou is unwavering in his belief on how he wants his side to play, and would not change his style for any opponent.

While it was well documented when Postecoglou arrived at Tottenham that he gets his sides playing a possession-based, high-intensity brand of football, most would have expected it to take time for the players to get used to the new style, given that Spurs had been a counter-attacking team for years.

However, the Australian has seemingly managed to get across his ideas fairly quickly, with the players appearing to now have a clear understanding of their roles.

The first-half performance that Tottenham produced against Fulham on Monday was arguably the best football we have seen the side play this season, with the Cottagers struggling to cope with the pace at which the home side moved the ball and the way the players interchanged positions.

Postecoglou has a reputation among PL managers

O’Neill revealed during Sky Sports’ coverage of the game that he does not expect the Lilywhites to change their approach no matter who they come up against

The Wolves boss said on Monday Night Football: “I know a few people at Spurs and I have spoken to a few of them about the work that is going on and Ange is just uncompromising in what he wants.

“He will not change for anybody. They are going to go about it their way and they won’t think ‘Oh it’s Man City today we’re going to come off of this’. It’s going to be his way no matter what and without the ball, they are unbelievably aggressive, just go after everybody no matter what.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Postecoglou has shown that he does not compromise on his principles of play for any team, he has also demonstrated that he has some pragmatism and is willing to tweak things slightly depending on the opponent his side is coming up against.

TEAMtalk have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of several Premier League clubs eyeing moves for Wolves winger Pedro Neto in January.

After an injury-hit 2022-22 campaign, which vastly reduced his game time, Neto has begun the new season in fantastic form, having delivered impressive displays against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

It has now emerged that a number of clubs across the top flight are now taking notice of the Portuguese star’s performances.

Tottenham Hotspur join the race for Pedro Neto

The report states that Spurs are considering a move for the attacker and are joined in the race for his signature by Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

While Saudi Pro League clubs are also said to be eyeing Neto, the winger is thought to be keen on remaining in England.

TEAMtalk also revealed that they spoke to transfer insider Graeme Bailey about the situation, with the journalist revealing that the 23-year-old and his agent Jorgen Mendes are ‘confident’ that a transfer will go through in January.

The outlet adds that Wolves are open to cashing in on Neto as long as their £50m valuation is met.

Spurs Web Opinion

The long-term injury to Perisic has necessitated a move for a wide player in January and Neto would be a perfect fit for Postecoglou’s system and would hit the ground running, given the experience he has in the Premier League.

If the former Braga man can stay injury-free until January, Tottenham should not think twice about paying £50m for him as it would be money well spent.

Tottenham have revealed that the club’s upcoming Premier League clashes against Chelsea and Wolves have been rescheduled for live television coverage.

Spurs have some tricky fixtures coming up over the next few weeks, including a trip to the Emirates for the North London Derby and a clash against Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Those results will perhaps give us a better picture of the progress that the Lilywhites have made under Ange Postecoglou and where they stand with respect to the best sides in the division.

Spurs matches on television in November

While Spurs have a relatively easier calendar in October, they face a challenging November, kicking off the month with a London derby against Chelsea before making a trip to Molineux to take on Wolves.

It has now been revealed that those two fixtures have been rescheduled for television coverage.

The clash against Chelsea will now take place on Monday November 6 for Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, kicking off at 8 pm, the fixture will see the return of Mauricio Pochettino to North London.

Meanwhile, the trip to the Black Country to take on Wolves has been rescheduled to Saturday 11 November, with kick-off at 12.30 pm. That match will be televised on TNT Sports.

Spurs Web Opinion

If we can somehow pick up decent results in the next few fixtures, we stand a great chance of keeping pace with the top clubs until the winter as our fixture list until the end of the calendar year is relatively kind. So, there is a lot riding on how well we do against Arsenal and Liverpool.

With a mixed campaign for the academy last season, Spurs fans should keep an eye on how the young starlets get on.

Last season, the U17 and U18 to the finals of the Premier League cups. Spurs went on to lift both of these trophies with superb performances in the finals.

Despite the success of the younger age groups, the U21s did not do as well and were relegated on the final day of the season. Although they had a good run in 2023, it was not enough to keep them up, and the U21s seemed to face a season in the PL2 Division Two.

However, the U21s were saved by a late format change, which meant they no longer faced relegation and instead would resume their run in the PL2 Division One. Spurs confirmed that “for the new campaign, there will be one division made up of the 26 clubs with Category One Academies, with participating teams divided into five pots based on performances over the past three seasons”.(Spurs)

The Spurs squad this season is still very young, with most players far below 21 years of age. Nevertheless, most played in the PL2 last year and know what it takes to play at this level. The squad will likely have support from some of the older academy players and graduates, such as Alfie Devine, Dane Scarlett, and the recently signed Ashley Phillips if any of them remain at the club rather than being loaned out.

Alfie Devine

Credit: Ollie Watkins (@watkinsstudio)

However, these players will only be used if they are necessary for the squad’s benefit as they will most likely feature in some senior games throughout the season. Some of the high-level prospects can be seen here.

With the arrival of Ange Postecoglou, not only did a new philosophy for the club arrive, but so did a new academy director. Simon Davies will take up this role and will be in charge of coherency between the senior squad and the academy, something that was visibly lacking under Antonio Conte’s tenure.

Davies joined Spurs in 2022 as Head of Methodology for the Academy after his stint as an assistant coach for Vincent Company at RSC Anderlecht. With this recent promotion, Davies is one of the most influential figures at the club and the development of the youth cannot be understated.

First three games:

The U21s will play their first match away against Manchester City on August 12. This will be a huge test for the youngsters, as Man City have won the PL2 three seasons running, and they don’t plan on slowing down. This will be a particularly tough game for Spurs, but a win could give the academy some momentum heading into the season.

Spurs’ next two games are against Newcastle and Derby. Newcastle are a newly promoted side in the PL2 and in the season prior they finished 8th. The new PL2 format change has also benefited Newcastle as they are now in the academy top flight, but this blessing could also be a curse as their academy squads may not be up to scratch yet.

The final game of Spurs’ first three is Derby and this will be by far the most trouble-free game. Derby had a horrendous 2022/23 campaign, with just one point coming from 20 games. In their last five games of the season, they conceded 20 goals and scored just four.

North London derby:

The North London derby is away on March 8th. In the most recent derby, Spurs took home three points when they beat Arsenal 2-1. They did, however, have a helping hand from seasoned professional Lucas Moura, who scored early on.

There is only one North London derby in the league this season, as you only play each team once unless you meet in the playoffs. This fixture is always contentious and will be a very close and thrilling game. The U21’s North London derbies are largely representative of the senior games, where form holds little weight as it is always a game fought with emotion and passion.

Final three games:

Spurs’ run to the end of the regular season is favourable, playing two out of the three games at home. If Spurs are in a playoff position, this is a perfect way to round off the regular season matches.

In the first match out of the final three, Spurs take on Reading at home. Last season, Reading’s academy was in Category Two after being moved down from Category One due to their transition to a new training group at Bearwood Park. (Reading).

This meant Reading faced a slightly lower standard of opponent, and now that they are back in category one, the shift up to the teams they will face this season could mean they will struggle. Not only this, they have a thin senior squad, and many of the older academy prospects will play for the senior squad, meaning the academy misses out on talent.

In the penultimate game of the season, Spurs will take on Wolverhampton Rovers at home. Last season, Wolves finished one spot ahead of Spurs and therefore survived what was perceived as the “drop”.

The last time the two sides met, the points were shared as the game was drawn 1-1. The senior manager of Wolves, Julen Lopetegui, has just left the club, and the effects of this are yet to be seen, but it could force the academy to make a stylistic change.

In the final match of the season, Spurs will face Fulham away from home. Last season, Fulham were immense in the PL2. By the end of the season, they sat fifth in the table with an incredible 41 points. This game will undoubtedly be tough for Spurs, especially since it is away. Ideally, Spurs will already be in a playoff spot, but this match could be a high-pressure end to the season.

Play-offs:

If Spurs were to make the playoffs, it would be a 16-team play-off with single ties played until a final. Much of the current squad played in the U18 and U17 Premier League Cup-winning teams, and this experience will hopefully prevail in the new play-off format.

The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has said that while Tottenham’s recruitment team were keen on signing Max Kilman, Ange Postecoglou was not in favour of a move for the Wolves star.

It was well documented right from the start of the summer that left centre-back was one of Tottenham’s priority areas to address, and the club have now finally managed to strengthen that position with the acquisition of Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.

Max Kilman in action for Wolves

WOLVERHAMPTON, ENGLAND – APRIL 25: Max Kilman of Wolverhampton Wanderers looks on during warm-up prior to the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace at Molineux on April 25, 2023 in Wolverhampton, England. However, prior to the Dutchman’s arrival, a whole host of players were mooted as targets for Spurs, including Kilman, with some sources even alleging the 26-year-old was one of the names at the top of the club’s wishlist (90 Min).

Postecoglou decided against move for Max Kilman

Spiers has now shed light on why Tottenham decided to move for Van de Ven over the Wolves star, explaining that Postecoglou did not think that the latter possessed the recovery pace to play in a high defensive line.

The journalist said on The View From The Lane podcast: “I feel like speed is the key here in terms of why they were so keen to bring him [Micky Van de Ven] in.

“I know that they looked really closely at Max Kilman from Wolves and that the recruitment team were really hot on him and I can understand why.

“He and Van de Ven share an awful lot of attributes in terms of their size, their physicality, Kilman is excellent technically. A similar price as well, I think Kilman could be got for £40m from what I hear.

“He also has family in London, I think he would have been open to the move, but the issue with Kilman is he’s not quick, that’s what he lacks.

“And I do feel like speed is the key to what Postecoglou wants. From what I’m told the recruitment team were really hot on Kilman but Postecoglou was not and I would imagine it’s for that reason.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe that the one quality which is just as important as recovery pace (if not more) to play in a Postecoglou backline is the ability to win duals so that the opposition is not allowed to break on us.

The centre-backs also have to be able to read the game well to cut off direct balls at their source. Van de Ven clearly excels at reading passes early and in defending one vs one situations while his quality in possession is also quite evident.

Matt Doherty has been speaking to the press upon rejoining Wolves and, when asked about his time at Tottenham Hotspur, insisted he has taken away fond memories and positive lessons.

The Irishman left Wolves for Spurs back in the summer of 2020 and amassed 71 appearances for the Lilywhites over the years, registering three goals and eight assists (Transfermarkt).

Be it through injury issues or lack of form, Doherty never quite found himself as the first-choice right-back at the North London club.

In January of this year, as Tottenham prepared for the arrival of Pedro Porro, Doherty was poised to join Atletico Madrid on loan until the end of the season.

However, in a bizarre twist of fate, Spurs had reached the maximum number of non-domestic loans for the season and made the decision to release Doherty on a free transfer instead.

Doherty would make just two La Liga appearances for Atletico (Transfermarkt) before being released this summer.

Matt Doherty loved his time at Spurs

The 31-year-old is now back at Wolves and looking to get back to playing regular football. When asked by Express and Star about his experience at Spurs, Doherty was nothing but positive.

He said: “I loved being at Spurs. I miss some of the relationships I have there – it was a great place to work with some great managers and great players.

“My three years away [from Wolves], in my mind, has been very successful. I’ve managed to meet new people, learn different things and different sides of the game.

“Obviously you want to, but you don’t have to play every single game to deem it successful.

“I wouldn’t change anything of my three years away, apart from the obvious of playing more. There’s not much I’d change, I really had a great time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Matt Doherty always seemed like a really good guy and someone that everyone in the squad appeared to get along well with.

He also showed signs of being a great player at times, but sadly he just never managed to consistently perform. Him being back at Wolves feels like the perfect move.

Former Tottenham Hotspur star, Lucas Moura, has returned to Brazil with São Paulo this summer, but his agent has revealed he turned down offers elsewhere, including the chance to join Wolves.

Moura‘s five-and-a-half-year spell with Tottenham was brought to an end recently, as the club decided not to take up the option to extend the winger’s contract.

The 30-year-old amassed 221 appearances for Spurs over the years, scoring 39 goals and adding 27 assists along the way (Transfermarkt).

Speculation over where Moura would be playing his football next season had been ongoing all summer, with multiple destinations mentioned.

Apparently, Crystal Palace were keen to offer Moura the chance to remain in the Premier League but that never materialised (GiveMeSport).

Until recently, it seemed Moura was destined to join the growing list of big names who were heading to Saudi Arabia this summer (UOL).

Lucas Moura was approached by Wolves

Now, the latest from UOL comes courtesy of Moura’s own agent, who claims his client had the chance to join a few clubs this summer, and could have remained in the Premier League with Wolves.

Junior Pedroso said: “Wolverhampton Wanderers, Monterrey and Los Angeles FC were on the table. [But] Lucas began to see requests from Sao Paulo fans for him to come back. And he went with the crowd.

“Lucas is very happy to have returned to Sao Paulo. The love he has for the club is impressive. We went to the training ground and, when we got there, he started to shake with emotion.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is interesting that Moura opted against staying in England as he probably could have done a decent job for Wolves. That said, it’s hard to argue against the merits of him returning to Brazil and his former club, where he is clearly adored by the fans.

On completing a return to Wolves, Matt Doherty insisted that his experiences at Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid helped him improve as a player, both physically and tactically.

Doherty made over 300 appearances for Wolves in his ten seasons at the club before making the switch to Spurs in a £14.7m deal back in 2020 when he became one of the first arrivals of the Jose Mourinho era.

The 31-year-old struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting eleven during his two-a-half years in North London before signing a six-month contract with Atletico Madrid in January after his deal at Spurs was terminated by mutual consent on deadline day (Football.London).

The move to the Spanish capital did not go to plan for the right-back, who has made just two appearances for Diego Simeone’s men in his five-month spell at the club.

Doherty believes he is now a better overall player

The Republic of Ireland international has now sealed a return to the Molineux Stadium, and he insisted that even though his three years away from the club did not always pan out the way he wanted, he had a great time playing for some of the best managers in the world.

Doherty told Wolves’ official channel: “I’ve grown as a player in confidence, physically I’ve improved and tactically too.

“I’ve worked with some of the best managers on the planet and I’ve experienced some really good trips away in Europe and had a great time. But I’ve managed to find my way back home.

“I’ve had some times when my form hasn’t been great and I’ve not been able to play as well as I did when I was at Wolves the first time.

“But I know I still have a lot to give and let’s hope I’m able to keep improving under this new manager and that he can get the best out of me.

“I still have my house here in the Midlands and I’ve been able to move straight back into that, so everything has been running really smoothly.”

I believe that Doherty’s story at Tottenham would have been a lot different had he not picked up the injury against Aston Villa back in April of last year as he was on a brilliant run of form at the time.

The 31-year-old never quite managed to force himself back into the starting eleven after that injury and has good reason to feel hard done by at the lack of opportunities during the first half of last season.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham Hotspur are no longer interested in making a move for Max Kilman this summer, as they may have been put off by the poor season Wolves endured last year.

Speaking of poor seasons, Tottenham didn’t fare much better than Wolves last term. An area of particular concern for Spurs in the 2022/23 campaign was in defence, with the club conceding 63 goals in the Premier League.

Max Kilman in action for Wolves

As a result, new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou made it clear to the club’s board that he would need to sign at least one new centre-back this summer (90 Min).

All the talk surrounding Tottenham’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements appears to suggests both Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven are the top targets in that area (Paul Brown for GiveMeSport).

There are other options out there, with Wolves centre-half Max Kilman among those who have been mentioned in the same breath as Spurs (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Tottenham have been put off Max Kilman for now

However, the latest update from Ben Jacobs suggests Tottenham are no longer tracking Kilman and will not be making a move for him.

On Spurs’ hunt for a new defender, Jacobs told The Debrief podcast: “On the centre-backs, Fabrizio [Romano] said about some of the targets, Tapsoba and van de Ven, and even Adarabioyo at Fulham could be a possibility as well.

“Previously they have explored Max Kilman, but he’s not on their radar at the moment, but he’s another who is good under pressure and in tight spaces.

“Maybe what put them off is the fact he didn’t have as good a season last campaign as the one before.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Max Kilman is a good, solid defender and would certainly not be a bad signing, but the likes of Tapsoba and van de Ven are better.

We should be putting all our efforts and attention into signing one of those two, but could well return for Kilman if anything goes wrong with the pursuit of our top targets.

The Telegraph have revealed that Wolves are now set to submit their third offer for Tottenham target Alex Scott, with the West Midlands club said to be determined to sign the talented teenager.

It has been widely reported over the last few months that Tottenham are one of several Premier League clubs eyeing a move for Scott, who has won many admirers since breaking into Bristol City’s starting eleven two years ago (Ben Jacobs – Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel).

It was fellow Premier League side Bournemouth who made the first move for the central midfielder, with The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel reporting last week that they had a £15m offer turned down by Bristol.

Wolves set to bid again for Spurs-linked Alex Scott

The Telegraph have now revealed that Wolves have since had two separate bids turned down, the latest of which was worth £20m plus the promise of further instalments.

The report explains that Bristol are not willing to budge on their valuation, which stands at £25m.

It is alleged that Wolves are undeterred by the Championship club rejecting their latest offer and are now said to be ready to return with a third bid for the 19-year-old.

The publication adds that Scott is one of Julen Lopetegui’s major summer targets and the Molineux hierarchy are determined to get a deal for the midfielder over the line.

It is also confirmed that Tottenham have ‘considered’ Scott in recent months.

Spurs Web Opinion

It appears as if Tottenham have backed away from the race for Scott.

Perhaps that is due to Postecoglou wanting to take a closer look at the midfielders at the club before making a decision on any potential incomings in that area.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are attempting to stave off interest from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Napoli by offering Max Kilman a new contract.

After a disastrous showing from the Tottenham defence last season, it will come as a surprise to no one that Ange Postecoglo told the club’s board he needed to sign a new centre-back this summer (90 Min).

Max Kilman in action for Wolves

Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven is thought to be a prime target for Spurs this summer (The Athletic), along with Bayer Leverkusen star Edmond Tapsoba (Alasdair Gold).

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham intend to sign one high-value centre-half this summer and they will then attempt to find a more moderately-priced second central defender to add to their ranks.

Where Kilman fits into that plan remains to be seen, but a recent report from TuttoMercatoWeb suggested Tottenham were still keen on the Englishman despite interest from Napoli.

Kilman offered new contract at Wolves

Not content to simply let other clubs swoop for one of their star players, Wolves have now reportedly offered the 26-year-old a new deal.

That’s according to journalist Alex Crook, who shared an update on the situation on Twitter, and claimed Wolves are hopeful they can now keep hold of Kiman.

He said: “Optimism from Wolves that Napoli target Max Kilman will sign an extended long-term contract. New deal officially offered yesterday.”

There is no word as of yet whether Kilman will accept the new contract or look to move elsewhere this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham seem absolutely intent on signing either Micky van de Ven or Edmond Tapsoba, and Kilman would likely cost around the same price as the latter.

If Spurs are looking for a cheaper, second option for centre-back, Kilman is not that player and he is very unlikely to sign for us this summer.

According to the print edition of Corriere dello Sport (06/07 as relayed by Sport Witness), Napoli are hopeful that they will be able to prevail over Tottenham in the race for Max Kilman.

Multiple publications over the last month have reported that Kilman is on Tottenham’s radar (90 min) but it was Napoli who seemingly made the first move to the Wolves star.

The Athletic reported last Sunday that the Serie A club had launched an offer of €35m (£30m) for the centre-back, which was turned down by Wolves, who allegedly have no intention of accepting any fee less than €40m (£34.3m) for the player.

A couple of days ago, we relayed a report from TuttoMercatoWeb which claimed that it was Spurs who were at the front of the queue ahead of Napoli to snap up Kilman, who was said to prefer a move to another Premier League side.

An auction between Napoli and Tottenham

If Corriere’s latest update is to be believed, Wolves are hoping for an auction to ensue between Tottenham and Napoli for the centre-back so they can ‘get the most out of the transfer’.

The report explains the reigning Serie A champions consider the €40m (£34.3m) price to be ‘excessive’ while Spurs are also ‘looking for a discount’.

The publication also adds that as things stand, Ange Postecoglou’s men ‘do not intend to sink the blow’ for Kilman.

Corriere also state that Napoli are hopeful that the offer of Champions League football would enable them to beat Tottenham to the player’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect that Tottenham view Kilman as a backup option in case a deal for Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven collapses.

For the moment, it seems pretty clear that the Lilywhites are focused on snapping up either the Leverkusen or the Wolfsburg star.

According to talkSPORT, Wolves are now likely to take up the option to extend the contract of rumoured Tottenham target Max Kilman by one year.

It is not a secret that Spurs are prioritising strengthening at left-sided centre-back this summer, with multiple publications reporting recently that Kilman is one of the names on the club’s wishlist.

90 min suggested last month that the Wolves star is one of the three top names that the North London club are eyeing for the aforementioned position.

This was also backed up by Ben Jacobs, who told Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel last week that Kilman has been a long-term target for Tottenham.

Spurs are seemingly not alone in their admiration for the 26-year-old, with The Athletic reporting on Sunday that Napoli had launched an offer of €35m (£30m) for the centre-back.

The report explained that Wolves had turned down the offer and had no intention of accepting any fee less than €40m (£34.3m) for Kilman.

The publication added that the Premier Leauge side are under no pressure to sell the player since he is contracted to the club until 2026, with an option of a 12-month extension.

Wolves likely to extend Kilman’s contract by one year

According to talkSPORT’s latest update, the West Midlands club have now made it clear that any interested clubs would have to pay £35m to prize Kilman away from the Molineux Stadium.

The report adds that if the centre-back stays put at the club this summer, Julen Lopetegui’s men will take up the option to extend his contract until 2027.

Spurs Web Opinion

It appears as if Tottenham have decided to look beyond the likes of Maguire and Kilman towards up-and-coming centre-backs in the rest of Europe, with Van de Ven and Tapsoba evidently emerging as the top targets for the left-sided centre-back role.

One could argue that Van de Ven has a much higher ceiling than Kilman but the Dutchman would also be a riskier signing since there is no guarantee that he would be able to thrive in the Premier League.

However, CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs said on Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel last week that Kilman is another one to keep an eye on, with the Wolves star said to be a long-term target for Spurs.

Napoli have had £30m bid for Kilman turned down

If The Athletic’s latest update is to be believed, Napoli have now failed with a move to snap up the Premier League star.

The report claims that the Serie A club identified Kilman as the man to replace Kim Min-Jae but their £30m offer was rebuffed by Wolves.

It is explained that the West Midlands will not accept any offer of less than €40m (£34.3m) for the 26-year-old.

The publication states that not only is Kilman contracted to Wolves until 2026, with an option to extend the deal by 12 months, but he is also open to prolonging his stay, which is why Julen Lopetegui’s men are under no pressure to sell him.

Spurs Web Opinion

Kilman would tick quite a few boxes for Postecoglou and Tottenham, and the fact that he is homegrown would make him a particularly attractive option.

However, it does seem as if the likes of Tapsoba, Van de Ven and Adarabioyo are ahead of the Wolves star on the North London club’s wishlist.

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has said that Tottenham Hotspur are currently leading the race for Bristol City starlet Alex Scott, along with Wolves.

Tottenham completed the acquisition of James Maddison from Leicester City in a £40m deal earlier this week but reports indicate that the North London club might not be done reinforcing the middle of the park.

On Wednesday, Sami Mokbel said on the Last World On Spurs that Ange Postecolgou’s men could sign another attacking midfielder or a number six this summer.

One man they could turn to is Scott, who has emerged as the best young talent in the EFL over the last couple of years.

In fact, Football.London reported just last week that Tottenham have asked to be kept informed about the 19-year-old’s situation but the outlet claimed that several other Premier League clubs also have their eye on the youngster.

Tottenham and Wolves are leading the Alex Scott race

Jacobs has now told Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel that as things stand, Spurs and Wolves are the front-runners for Scott’s signature, even though other clubs are also monitoring the youngster.

The journalist added it would take a bid of around £25m to lure the teenager away from Ashton Gate Stadium.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Postecoglou would need another attacking midfielder apart from James Maddison, given how important a number eight is to the Australian’s system.

Unless the Spurs boss believes that one of Lo Celso or Ndombele can be part of his plans (which appears unlikely), a move for Scott would make perfect sense as not only can the 19-year-old learn as Maddison’s understudy but he can also operate as a number six.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, Wolves will be lucky to keep hold of Max Kilman this summer, and he thinks Tottenham Hotspur should be trying harder to sign the defender.

Without a doubt, the main area of concern for Tottenham in a dismal campaign in 2022/23 was in defence.  The team shipped 63 goals in the Premier League, with only five teams conceding more, and three of those teams being relegated.

Since Ange Postecoglou has taken over at Spurs, he has reportedly made it clear to the board that he needs a new centre-back to solve the issues at the back for the Lilywhites (90 Min).

Multiple names have been linked with Tottenham already this summer as they hunt for a new centre-half. Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo is known to be a potential target (Sky Sports), as is Bayer Leverkusen star Edmond Tapsoba (90 Min).

Another name on the list is thought to be Max Kilman, with respected journalist Alasdair Gold naming the Wolves defender as a player Spurs are keeping an eye on in his column for Football.London.

Tottenham should be pushing to sign Kilman

In an appearance on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel, Graeme Bailey expressed his surprise that Spurs have not been pushing harder to sign Kilman this summer.

He said: “[Wolves are] keeping Kilman and he’s a wonderful player. Max Kilman is as good as Levi Colwill. I think they will do well to hang on to him.

“I’m surprised Spurs haven’t pushed harder. They have been linked, but I’m surprised they haven’t pushed harder for him because he’s a potential England player Kilman, he’s that good.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I really like Max Kilman and he has a bright future ahead of him wherever he ends up. He is a player I would love to see Spurs taking a chance on as, like Bailey says, he could and should end up at the very top level eventually.

The Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are both continuing to monitor Wolves centre-back, Max Kilman.

Kilman’s reputation has blossomed since he established himself as a regular in the Wolves backline two years ago, with the defender starting all but one Premier League game during the 2022-23 season (Transfermarkt).

Given the shallow pool of left-footed centre-back options for Gareth Southgate, a senior England cap does not appear to be too far away for the 26-year-old

Tottenham are reportedly keen on strengthening at left centre-back this summer and it was reported by 90 min a couple of weeks ago that Kilman is one of the names on the North London club’s radar.

However, the speculation linking the Wolves star with a move to Spurs has died down since, with reports over recent days suggesting that the Lilywhites are prioritising moves for the likes of Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Taposoba and Wolfsburg’s Micky Van de Ven instead (Fabrizio Romano).

Spurs and West Ham both interested in Max Kilman

Taylor has now asserted that Kilman is still very much in Tottenham’s sights and claimed that Wolves could be open to cashing in on him.

When asked about Spurs’ interest in the centre-back, he told GiveMeSport: “I think ultimately it’d be down to Julen Lopetegui and what he feels, but I think Wolves could probably do with another big sale like that because it would help them have finances to recruit even further.

“I think Killman is an underrated defender and I think the likes of Tottenham and West Ham are definitely looking at him.

“I do rate him quite highly actually, having watched him a few times closely this season and his ability to pass with both feet is exceptional.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One can understand why Kilman would be an appealing option to Tottenham, given how comfortable he is on the ball, his proficiency in duals and the fact that he is homegrown.

However, it does not appear as if the Wolves star is near the top of Spurs’ wishlist, with the club now seemingly pushing ahead with a move for Taposoba.

90 min have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could make a shock move for Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui.

Over the last 48 hours, an increasing number of reports have talked up the possibility of Tottenham making an approach for Ange Postecoglou.

In fact, The Sun even reported on Thursday morning that the Celtic boss could be confirmed as Tottenham’s head coach as early as next week.

The publication claimed that the Australian was keen on taking up the challenge in N17 and that the Bhoys hierarchy are resigned to losing him.

However, The Telegraph contradicted that claim last evening, suggesting that other candidates are still being considered by Spurs, including Fulham‘s Marco Silva.

The report revealed that the Portuguese coach has a release clause of around £6m in his current deal but he is in discussions with the Cottagers over a new contract.

90 min have now stated that Tottenham could also turn to another Premier League boss in the form of Lopetegui.

The Spaniard has done a commendable job since replacing Bruno Lage at Molineux Stadium back in October of last year, and it has now emerged that Spurs have been alerted to his availability.

The 56-year-old had previously confirmed that he had turned down an offer to become Spurs head coach in 2021 before the club hired Nuno Espirito Santo (El Larguero).

Spurs Web Opinion

Lopetegui is an excellent coach and he has done exceedingly well to guide Wolves to a 13th-place finish, given the mess that the club where in when he arrived.

However, Tottenham need a charismatic coach with fresh ideas to galvanise the playing squad and the fan base, and the Spaniard does not seem like a particularly good fit.

The Daily Mail have revealed that Wolves might have to cash in on rumoured Tottenham Max Kilman in order to balance their books this summer.

Reports indicate that Spurs are likely to be in the market for a left-sided centre-back this summer even if they sign Clement Lenglet permanently from Barcelona (The Athletic).

One of the players the North London club are allegedly looking at is Max Kilman, who has been a fixture in the Wolves back line this season.

Journalist Ben Jacobs told CaughOffside earlier this week that Tottenham are ‘admirers’ of the 26-year-old and could consider making an offer for him this summer.

If The Mail’s latest update is to be believed, Wolves would be open to selling some of their prized assets, including Kilman.

The report states that the club need to ‘show caution’ in the market in order to stay within the financial fair play rules and are thus planning on selling some of their players and targeting new signings in the £8m-£15m range.

Kilman is named as one of the players that Julen Lopetegui’s men could cash in on along with goalkeeper Jose Sa, wide men Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence.

There are not really too many left-sided centre-backs on the market and Kilman would certainly be a useful squad option, having Premier League experience under his belt.

However, I doubt Tottenham would be thinking about finalising transfer targets at the moment, given that their managerial search appears to be back to square one.
