According to a report on Kalvin Phillips’ future, Tottenham Hotspur’s new technical director, Johan Lange, could push the club to make a move for the Manchester City midfielder in January.

There are a number of new people working behind the scenes at Tottenham now, with Scott Munn and Johan Lange supporting Ange Postecoglou.

The January transfer window will be an interesting indication of how the new structure will operate and how successful it can be in identifying and securing new signings to bolster the Spurs squad.

One area that appears to require work is in central midfield. While Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr have started the season well, the club is still waiting for Rodrigo Bentancur to return from injury and it is unclear whether he will be able to reach the level he was at previously.

Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are also on hand, but the latter has been linked with a move away, with Juventus keen (LondonWorld).

Kalvin Phillips could replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Now, according to the latest from The Telegraph, Hojbjerg’s replacement may have been found in the form of Kalvin Phillips.

The Man City midfielder is apparently well aware that he “needs to start playing more regularly” if he is to secure a spot in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad and is now expected to “consider a move” away from the Etihad in January.

While clubs like Juventus and Newcastle are mentioned as potential suitors, it is believed Lange is a “big fan” of Phillips and there is a chance the player could be “hit [Tottenham’s] radar” if Hojbjerg is to move on.

Spurs Web Opinion

I’d be keen to see what Phillips could do for us. He was quality at Leeds, but the move to City just made no sense at all. He needs to get out of there quickly, and recapture the form that made him such an important player for England.
