After James Maddison joked that he would present Bukayo Saka with a Tottenham scarf on his birthday, the Arsenal man suggested that he would swiftly return it to the midfielder.

Maddison has started the season on fire for Tottenham, having scored twice and picked up two assists in the first four Premier League matches of the season (Transfermarkt).

The 26-year-old is deservedly back in the England squad and might have even done enough to start for the Three Lions in their upcoming European Championship qualifier against Ukraine.

One man who is highly likely to be in Gareth Southgate’s starting eleven is Saka, who celebrated his 22nd birthday on Tuesday.

Saka not interested in Maddison’s Tottenham present

The Gunners star had been named England’s Player of the Year for the second year in a row and Maddison was tasked with surprising the wide-man by offering him the award as his birthday present at St James’ Park.

After giving Saka the award, the new Spurs signing and the Arsenal academy graduate were involved in some humourous banter.

Maddison joked (via Football.London): “Brilliant. I haven’t given you my present yet. It’s a Tottenham scarf, I’ll give it to you later on”, to which the Arsenal man swiftly responded: “I’ll give it you back bro. I’ll give it back to you.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Maddison comes across as someone who relishes performing on the big stage, which is why I cannot wait to see him take to the field at the Emirates on September 24.

While it is still very early in the season, there is no doubt that there is a lot riding on the North London derby, given the starts that both the clubs have made to the new season.
