Alasdair Gold has revealed in his column for Football.London that Tottenham are expected to make wholesale changes in central defence this summer.
Gold says that the expectation at Tottenham is that several centre-backs will be moved on, with Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon set to leave while Japhet Tanganga’s future at the club is also in doubt.
The journalist adds that Postecoglou is expected to look at Eric Dier during pre-season before making a decision on his future.
It is explained that Tottenham are looking for a couple of new centre-backs this summer to play both the left and right-sided roles.
Ange Postecoglou is said to prefer defenders who are brave on the ball, strong in duals and have the mobility to play in a high line.
Tottenham are looking at Guehi, Kilman, and Laporte
Gold reveals that Tottenham are ‘big admirers’ of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi but he says that the club have not substantiated their interest in the 22-year-old as of yet and are likely to face plenty of competition for the England international if they do so.
The journalist asserts that Wolves’ Max Kilman is also on Spurs’ radar while the North London club are continuing to watch Aymeric Laporte’s situation at Manchester City.
Finally, Gold adds that Tottenham have not ruled out the possibility of signing Clement Lenglet permanently from Barcelona this summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
Even if Tottenham bring in two central defenders this summer, we would likely not sell all four of Sanchez, Rodon, Tanganga, and Dier as we will be left short of options in the area.
I suspect that Postecoglou would decide to keep Dier as a squad player for the time being before upgrading on him in January or next summer.
