Simon Jordan believes that Ivan Toney is the type of signing that Tottenham need to make during the January transfer window.
Tottenham did not sign an out-and-out number nine to replace Harry Kane in the summer following the England captain’s move to Bayern Munich.
However, that has not cost Ange Postecoglou’s men so far this season as they have been scoring goals for fun.
Son Heung-min has scored six goals in the four matches that he has played as a central striker while Ricarhlison, despite a difficult start to the season, came off the bench to get a goal and an assist against Sheffield United two weeks ago and assisted again yesterday against Liverpool.
Reports over the last couple of weeks have suggested that Spurs are one of the clubs eyeing a move for Toney in January after his ban lapses (The Daily Express).
Would Ivan Toney do well at Tottenham?
The Lilywhties are alleged to be battling London rivals, Arsenal and Chelsea for the 27-year-old’s signature, and Jordon believes that the Brentford star would be a good fit for Postecoglou’s men.
The former Crystal Palace owner told talkSPORT: “If you have changed your agent to be able to achieve an outcome. In my opinion, based upon my experience, the bottom line is he’s changed agents to anticipate a move. There is an expectation of a move. He’s going to move.
“He is going, and the reason is that it’s very rare you see a top-class centre-forward become available in the January transfer window. So there’s a rarity to that little beast.
“I quite like him for Tottenham. He would be a signing for Tottenham but it begs a question what would happen for Richarlison in that respect.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I would be surprised if Tottenham get involved in a bidding war for Toney in January. A Centre-back and central midfielder are much bigger priorities for the club to address, particularly since Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg looks likely to depart.
