Tottenham Hotspur defender Destiny Udogie has described making his senior Italy debut as a ‘dream come true’ after earning his first cap last night.
Udogie has enjoyed an impressive start to his career at Tottenham having made the left-back position his own with a number of impressive performances under Ange Postecoglou.
The 20-year-old had been a regular at Under-21 level for the Azzurri and was called up by the recently appointed Luciano Spalletti for the Euro 2024 qualifier double header against Malta and England.
With his side 3-0 ahead against Malta, Spalletti gave Udogie his first taste of senior international action when he came off the bench for the final eleven minutes and certainly repaid the faith shown in him when he provided the assist for David Frattesi to round of the scoring.
Destiny Udogie – a shrewd Fabio Paratici signing
After the match, Udogie told RAI Sport: “Wearing the Italy jersey was a dream I had since childhood and now it has come true.
“I am very happy and even happier with the victory that allows us to continue pushing for qualification.”
When asked about his start to the season at Spurs, he continued: “It is going well, I must continue working hard and keep proving what I can do. I dedicate the debut to my family and all those who love me.”

Huge credit has to be given to Fabio Paratici for securing the signature of Udogie, who could be Tottenham’s left back for many years to come.
It would be fair to say that Ryan Sessegnon‘s future at Tottenham has to be over when you compare how Udogie has performed in his first eight games for the club against the lack of consistency which Sessegnon showed under both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
